User Image
Name: Angela Baker
Alias: n/a
Age: 14
Gender: Female
Powers: Umbrakinesis, Chlorokinesis, Invisibility
Aura: navy, violet, low frequency

Appearance: With great contrast, Angela has pasty skin with deep blue hair and eyes. Her hair is a bob, cut shorter in the back and longer in the front, accompanied by flat bangs that rest directly above her eyes. She never wears anything darker than navy or maroon, unless it's an accent, but more often than not she's wearing pure black. Very feminine and petite, she prefers gothic fashion as if she were coming from a funeral.

Personality: While her expressions would suggest she were disinterested or bored, Angela is far from unfriendly. While she's not the first choice as a shoulder to lean on, she wouldn't deny aiding someone who needed her help if it was within her power. She's got a dark and dry sense of humor, which unfortunately wears thin in the wrong situation -- she's the type of person to laugh at a funeral and not understand why she would get in trouble. Other than that, Angela has the makings of a good and loyal friend. Despite coming off as flat, she has a wide array of interests and isn't against forming relationships with others. However, if you catch her while she's reading, working or pouring herself into a hobby (including music, drawing and reading), you're likely to get ignored unless it's an expressed emergency, or depending on how close you are to her. When upset, Angela will usually seclude herself and fill the air around her with darkness to flush everything out. Acutely photophobic, she prefers the comfort of darkness and tends to keep her dorm as dark as possible, so long as it's okay with her roommate. She likes to think of herself as a proper lady and doesn't show her extreme emotions so long as she can help it, especially anger, and will seclude herself when furious -- when angered, she can be rather destructive and doesn't want anyone to witness it.

History: As one could expect with a wardrobe as expensive as hers, Angela comes from a relatively wealthy family and lives in comfort. However, her family is far from functional. Her father is a doctor and spends most of his time away from home, either at the hospital or “meetings” in order to stay out. Her mother is a stay-at-home mom and has become reliant on her father’s paychecks and spends most of her time drinking while on the computer. The two of them are negligent of Angela and the poor girl can hardly remember a single family dinner together. The only real time she and her mother get to hang out is on shopping trips – where they basically let Angela pick out whatever she wants (which is the most they really treat her to).

A lot of Angela’s free time growing up was micromanaged by her mother in order to make her a “proper lady.” Singing lessons, musical instruments, art and any other trade, Angela had been put through classes for it. While she doesn’t see eye-to-eye with her mother an almost anything, she does enjoy playing the cello and art – though all other classes she could’ve lived without. When at home, she spends all of her time in her own room away from her mother because she finds her presence exhausting and annoying. Angela hardly ever sees her father.

Angela’s school career was spent in a private girl’s academy before being pulled out by her mother for homeschooling, shortly after learning about her daughter’s abilities – she didn’t want this freak around other people anymore. She had always been different and hardly made friends because of her tastes. Angela hated it because she didn’t get to dress in black or how she wanted in general, having been issued a uniform, and hardly tried to befriend others anyway. She also hardly tried in school; almost as a way to get back at her mother for how little she tried with her own flesh and blood. Just before entering high school, she was pulled out.

Having no idea about others with abilities like hers, Angela had no idea that there was even a camp for her. Even if she had known, her mother never would have let her gone; she had no idea about Angela’s abilities and would have figured a ‘psychic’ camp would just muddle her daughter’s imagination and give her warped, improper ideas about the world around her. The Psychonauts went unknown by her up until the age of thirteen when some bored searching on google had brought up the group. Intrigued, Angela then went on frantic research to learn anything she could in order to know more about herself. Angela never really made friends in any social situation, generally keeping to herself – she had known her abilities would make her different from others and inwardly feared being rejected for them. She was already rejected from her tastes in fashion, humor and general personality, so they didn’t need more reasons to harass her. But here, there were others like her, others that had abilities and the possibility of making actual friends – or better yet, an actual family.

It wasn’t until closer to fourteen that Angela approached her mother with the application, nearly begging her once coming clean with all the years of harassment on her part. Everything was explained as calmly as possible, but knowing now that the girl had been torturing her, her mother quickly denied the request and sentenced her to her room. She wasn’t allowed to go anywhere anymore; not even classes. This lasted for about a month before Angela began tormenting her mother further, nearly bullying her into allowing her to go. After a while, it was more along the lines of getting Angela away from home in general so these things would stop.
