Ice and Star, the Quest for Knowledge
Irelia and Asher are partners in crime, though not in love (yet). They met each other while in Soriyu, attending the Guardian training together. Each of them contributes something the other cannot, and their past seems to echoe each other. Irelia is on a quest to find out what her magic book really contains, and Asher is just trying to stay out of the way of glomping girls.

Asher, Prince of Ice
Name: Asher Torstenn
Gender: Male
Age: 22
Height: about 6'5" (very tall!)
Lotus: Pale Blue
Origin/Ethnicity: Jade
Hair Style: Very long, and very straight; he wears it up in a ponytail with many ornaments and baubles. He is not often mistaken for a woman though...
Eye Style: Oriental; his eyes are small and thin, yet seem to be very bright
Hair Color: white/ pale silvery-blue
Eye Color: ice blue
Distinguishable Features: He has one tattoo on his shoulder of a large white/silver phoenix
Clothing: Asher wears traditional japanese garments, all of which hug his form, and he always wears them open at the chest, as if he is constantly overheating and needs the breeze. His clothes are usually white, or close to white; He never wears strong colours. He will often wear a cloak over top, which is usually a dark brown, in order to conceal his looks.
Accessories: Asher wears no jewelery except for the baubles in his hair, which he changes constantly. He wears small gold glasses, which he pushes up constantly, but he's blind as a bat without them. He does enjoy silver feathers, though.
Personality: Asher is very quiet, and does not talk much. When he does, he chooses his words carefully, and makes himself heard with his quiet grace. Something seems to be always on his mind, and he always seems to be lost in thought. He seems to be unemotionally unavailable, and cold when it comes to people. At least, that's what he's like around normal people. He is a complete fool when it comes to children. He loves them without conditions, and they love him back. When his guardian's other charges grew up, and had little lotuses of their own, Asher loved to watch them, and the adults loved to watch him too, as he was a very precocious child. Asher is horrible at remembering even the simplest information, but he will retain it subconciously, and remember it at a later date, far too late to be of any help. Asher is obsessed with anything shiny, like a magpie. He will occasionally buy small jewels that he keeps in a small glass jar in his cottage, which he watches with glee.
Back Story: Asher lived with a merchant in Jade, after his true guardian, a shaman, died when he was a young teen. An orphaned lotus was not orphaned for long, and he found shelter with another almost the day after his former guardian had passed on.
Asher's guardian was not a nice Lotus, as greed had twisted his desires. Asher was beaten for things that he had no control over, and he went to bed hungry for many days, for slights real or imagined.
Over the years, Asher slowly started to retreat in to himself, covering himself with layers of protections almost like a hard shield. Asher moved out of the main house as soon as he was deemed able to do so, and moved in to a small hunter's cottage near the end of his guardian's land, several miles away from the main house. Asher's main passion was pottery, and he soon became very skilled. He sold his pots under an assumed name, as he was virtually a hermit, and became very famous for his creamy glazing techniques.
Asher was very lonely in his cottage, all by himself, and it took a lot of courage for him to lock his doors and journey to Soriyu, in time to take the first guardian exams.
Asher excelled in child care, as he was able to relate to the young children, and let his shields down to let them in to his heart. On more than one occasion, Asher came home with grubby handprints all over his pristine clothes, but he didn't seem to care that much. Asher was finally beginning to be happy, but it all crashed down when he learned that of all of the applicants, only two had failed, himself and Irelia, a classmate of his that he found irritating at best, infuriating at worst.
When Asher walked out of the class, he saw that Irelia was slumped against the wall, sleeping soundly. Since no one else seemed to want to have anything to do with her, Asher shrugged, and picked up the slumbering girl...

Irelia, Star of Knowledge
Name: Irelia Ismene
Gender: Female
Age: 29
Height: 5'7"
Lotus: Opalescent White
Origin/Ethnicity: Fen
Hair Style: Extremely curly, short hair; it's cut around shoulder length.
Eye Style: Irelia always looks sleepy because she doesn't seem to get much sleep...
Hair Color: Red- brown; almost coppery?
Eye Color: Aqua
Distinguishable Features: Is ALWAYS carrying around a large, leather bound book.
Clothing: Irelia has a very eccentric style, and seems to wear articles of clothing from every job that she has ever had. Irelia is often seen wearing baggy, dancer like pants, a short, belted kimono top, and gloves that end in golden bracelets, containing two large, green jewels.
Accessories: Her two bracelets, with the green jewels + a large, leather covered magic book
Personality: Irelia is a nosy, insufferable busybody that gets in everyone's business. She's loud, crass, and bound to argue with you if she thinks she is *mostly* in the right. Irelia is extremely stubborn, and hates to be told what to do. She is nomadic, and doesn't stay in one place for very long. Irelia makes friends easily, is easily embarressed, and has no shame. She is almost the complete opposite of the secretive Asher. NO ONE touches her book; she's EXTREMELY touchy when it comes to her stuff, and does not want anyone 'contaminating' the magic within. Since she has no magic herself, she has no grounds for doing this...
Back Story: Irelia's guardian was a master dancer, who travelled all of Edonisu. She had hoped that Irelia would follow in her footsteps (no pun intended), which Irelia did so until she was a teen; soon after, Irelia grew restless, and decided that she needed to learn how to build bridges, for that was a skill so far from a cushy, dancer's life that it seemed desireable to her.
Two years of splinters, broken fingers, and general bruising, Irelia decided that bridge building was not for her. And so, Irelia travelled to Koriyu, and decided she would rather like to be an acolyte at a temple.
For three years, Irelia was shaved bald, and walked long corridors waving sticks of incence. After she sneezed the last of the incense out of her system, Irelia moved on to Ishura, and decided that being a sailor would be a lovely, romantic life.
After four years of eating bad pork, heaving over the side of the ship, and being captured by pirates, Irelia decided it was time to move on.
Irelia continued, going through job after job after job, but finding nothing that suited her. She had a vast network of acquantances, but no friends, and she had long been out of touch with her guardian. It was as she was travelling through Koriyu once more, after making a full circuit of Edonisu, that Irelia realized that she never would be happy.
It was during a chat with a particular carpet seller that she spyed a dilapidated shop sitting in an alleyway, where no shop had ever set up before. Her curiousity piqued, Irelia latched on to a book that was half-covered by a dirty cloth.
Irelia bought it, after much haggling, but in the end was immensely pleased with her purchase. It took her another several years to decipher it, but in the end, she found that she had bought an ancient spell book, one that seemed to be out of circulation with the magic users of Jade.
It was on Irelia's final trip, to Jade, that she was coerced in to going to the Soriyu school for Guardians. Irelia loved children, and felt their prescence calming, even when they were screaming at the top of their lungs. They were simple creatures, easily impressed, and a joy to be around. Irelia soon flung herself in to her new position as guardian in training, and passed every test they flung at her.
But Irelia managed to flunk the practical exams every time, because she soon figured out that she liked the idea of children, but her way of dealing with them was to sit for days, and watch them like they were some sort of scientifac experiment, instead of a needy, loving child. Irelia did not pass the final examinations, much to her broken heart.
Although Irelia had held many positions, she had quit them all not because she had failed, but because they were not right for her. This was the first time in her life that she had actually failed at something.... and she thought that she had perhaps found the one thing that she may be suited for. Prologue Sunshine, as happy and gay as could be, washed the cobblestone streets of Koriyu with liquid gold. Flowers were opening in response to the care and attention of their attendants, and the the merchants in the Bazaar loudly displayed their wares. Cool breezes fluttered in amongst the stalls, carrying a heady scent of ripe berries and the crisp of dawn. But it seemed that one person in Koriyu was not enjoying the early morning sunshine. A lone figure strolled along the street, lone only because all others kept to the left and right of her, and kept their eyes on the ground. The woman was not an imposing figure; in fact, in the right light she could even be called 'cute'.
It wasn't the right light that morning.
Her back was stooped, even though she had forgone her customary rucksack that morning and her load must have been much less. Her eyes had dark shadows underneath them, and she yawned constantly. She really wasn't very imposing...
The hunched figure walked up to an empty stall in the bazaar, pushing a large crate from under a sheet that had been placed over the stall. The sheet was stained from who knows what kind of meat and dirt, but it kept the figure from getting splinters. She was in the midst of setting up several brightly coloured signs when a couple of locals surrounded her table.
"So, Irelia, have any gossip?" Said one burly man.
Irelia grinned from ear to ear, and bounced slightly, her coppery, curly hair bouncing along with her. Irelia leaned over the stall, as if she was conspiring with the man.
"Oh, I've got a doozy!!" Irelia said, a gleam in her eye, and cocked her head to the side, "but its going to cost you more than just a pretty penny or two."
Women strolling the bazaar leaned closer and the men who had followed the purveyor of gossip leaned even closer.
Irelia grinned. "I will have none of that! You pay for your own gossip, thank you very much!"
With that, the drapes around the stall were quickly whipped shut, and the only thing you could see were the legs of the client. A blue sheen glowed over the entire stall and all of the noise in the area immediate to the stall ceased.
There was one mighty strong spell on those curtains.
The women glowered, and stomped off to do the rest of their shopping. Each one hoped that the Secret Finder had not found out their secret, and several foolishly bought faulty 'keep secret' charms, which were doing a hearty business since Irelia arrived.
Old charms hung in every window. It was a clear warning to every Secret Finder.
"Welcome. We have secrets! Please find them!!"
End Prologue
I've changed Irelia just a little. She's now a "Secret Finder", which i made up.
