It was a few months before Christmas where our story begins.
Joy had arrived home, again she had she sad sullen eyes of defeat and exhaustion. You see this young girl, for for the third year going, had endured the name calling and the rocks thrown at her keeping the constant abuse and bullying away from her parents.
The bruising however was something she could not hide like the bruises to her self esteem. On this day mid november a man who Joy had not seen before knocked on the door, Joy dismissed him as a salesman at first because of the large briefcase that he had, black, professional with that locking gadget that you had to scroll through the numbers to unlock. His suit, was much akin to the people who often sold you bibles at the door, reserved, posh nothing alike the neighbourhood she lived in that it took her by complete surprise when her mother, calling to her father Nobby, invited this stranger inside their haven.
" Mrs Latham i presume?" he said, the young girl nervously watching behind the living room door as her parents spoke, " that is me but you have hardly explained who you are" Said her mother in a rather confused state , her father sternly would repeat his question and Joy could surely see the well suited man quivering with nerves, " that's my dad!" she thought "you show him what for!" but then things took a different turn as the well suited man opened his case to reveal documents and an array of photo's Joy's mum and her grandma, there was then a lot of tears and garbled words as the well suited man revealed himself as Joy's uncle!
An Uncle! thought Joy, and that was only the beginning , her father would call her into the room " JOY! " he would call out with a strong and responding uhmpf that Joy would jump and march in like a little tin soldier, " Meet your uncle Mik" and so the introduction though uncomfortable begun. " Mik has asked us to move to the country near his home!" Mother spoke ecstatically, sadly little Joy was far from happy, she were confused distraught, the only home she knew was being taken away from her. Joy did not know if the tears she could feel wetting her cheeks were from happiness or sadness, but an overwhelming sense of ease enveloped her.
And to the country she went with her family, it were expensive to get there but eventually they made it as the end of november neared and the start of christmas begun, the family had worked together to make the new house a home and Joy had settled in well. She had made so many friends that she barely cared that her family had little to spend for christmas.
" Sorry Kiddo" said her dad, " we don't seem to have a lot this year so it will be a small christmas this year" But that did not phase Joy in the slightest " that's okay dad, all i want this year is toy story on video, but i will be happy regardless with just a jumper" she responded.
Joy did not give up for she knew she would have a great christmas regardless of what she received, yet she took on a small job so she could afford a small gift for her parents.
And to reward her for her selfless ways, when christmas did come, Joy received the most beautiful jumper and as she went to wear it a video dropped to the floor " It's toy story!" she beamed.
Joy Never to this day forgot the time she spent in the small home with little more than a jumper and slippers. And the young girl? She grew up to be......

Remember Kids, Adults everywhere to be grateful for what you receive, it is not always the most expensive gifts that are the most precious , but the memories that are tied with whatever you receive. And even if you don't get anything enjoy the company and joy this winter brings.
