Because they really had a lot to bond over considering they fell in love with boys who didn't give a s**t about them and then married them. Headcanon says they get together at least once a week to supplement their boring, sexless marriages with violent lesbian sex.

Pre-face-heel-turn Sasuke they were both in love with people that didn't love them back and she could have totally gone to him for advice on coping and he'd be like "alcohol and drugs and loose women." And she'd be like "That sounds awful but why the ******** not muh emotional baggage." and they'd encourage either other's self-destructive outlets until it culminated in a near-death-experience in a dirty motel room thanks to an overdose and one of them would have to punch a syringe into the other's chest like in Pulp Fiction and they'd sit there with the everliving ******** scared out of them and be all like "Hey let's not do this anymore let's just ******** ok" and they'd live functionally dysfunctionally ever after.

This s**t was straight up romeo and julliet tier I'm still buttblasted it didn't happen. They were just beautiful together and I wish they could have reunited their clan at each other's side.

This should be fun.
5. Naruto/Gaara: My favorite pairing involving Naruto the character. He and Gaara are so similar and have experienced the same pain; Gaara, recognizing that, really cares for and admires Naruto. They have a great bond. And of course, there was that manga scene where Gaara proposes marriages suggests forming a permanent alliance by drinking sake that...well, just more shipping fuel. Gaara definitely loves Naruto; his freak out when Naruto was dying is proof enough. Unfortunately, I don't think they'd work out because of the distance and because of my #3 ship. Oh well, I ship it anyway.
4. Shikamaru/Temari: The only canon ship I actually like. It was my first Naruto ship, actually, and it was teased since part 1 with the Chuunin Exams and while nothing concrete ever happened (on the page, anyway), I always kind of felt something was going on. And then they got together, and no one was really surprised.
3. Naruto/Sasuke: The only ship that matters. The whole manga is about this. The Naruto-Sasuke bond is the most important relationship in the entire manga. There is no disputing that.
Whether or not that bond is meant to be read as something more than 'strong friendship' or 'brotherhood'...well, that's up to the reader. I am 100% convinced Sasuke has more than brotherly feelings for Naruto. I am also 100% convinced that Naruto returns those feelings but has no idea what to do about them or any way to describe them. So instead they each married women (or at least had children with them) and are living a lie instead of happily being together. It's not even my favorite ship or anything, but like...I can't read Naruto without seeing this.
2. Rock Lee/Tenten: Cute side ship that turned into full-blown OTP. Holy moly, they are so cute! Why is there no fic? There's fan art now, thank goodness, but the fic is so rare! Anyway, I ship them because in the few canon appearances Tenten has, she's almost always concerned about Lee and hilariously overreacting to his hotblooded-ness, but like...it's kind of like how Sakura would get mad at Naruto for his immaturity, but Sakura still cared about him? I dunno how to explain it. Plus, Tenten always gets so annoyed when Lee is mooning over Sakura. It's really cute and fluffy, and I feel like ships like that just don't exist in Naruto anymore, so I'm gonna hold on to this one as long as I can.
1. Neji/Hinata: FML. The OTP. I've been shipping them for six years. At first, it was because I thought they looked pretty together (shallow, yes, but there are worse reasons for shipping), but then Part II started and oh. my. gosh.
Someone once was asked, "when did you start shipping NejiHina?" and she replied, "around the same time Neji did." That someone wasn't me, but it could have been. If Kishimoto wasn't intending Neji to be in love with Hinata, then I have no idea what he was trying to do there because s**t...I love my cousins, but I don't love my cousins like THAT. For a while, I didn't even care that there's not a ton of (good) fic because the canon was better. But then canon stabbed me (and Neji) in the heart and...yeah.
I never seriously thought NejiHina would be endgame, but I still wasn't expecting Neji to be killed off for the sake of what did happen in the end. I'm still bitter. But hey, that's what fandom is for, thank goodness.
That got long. I have a lot of feelings about my ships, OK?
