                                                        Character's full name: Meira Tova
[ 3 syll. mey EER ah ] Hebrew for 'giving light; illumintes'
                                                        [ 2 syll. t OW - v ah ] Hebrew for 'goodly, pleasing;

                                                        Race: Angel

Rank: Purifier; a Power of the Second Sphere that specializes in seeking out signs of possession or mind control that manifest from unwilling, and often unwitting, servants for fiendish corruptors and their mortal minions. As warrior angels they fight against demons and evil spirits on the mortal plane to thwart those that would attempt to wreak chaos through human beings. Purifiers strive for liberation of mind, body, and spirit from the bondage of sin and the taint of the unholy. While some see the powers of the Purifier as a gift, others view them as a curse, changing the life of the chosen in unforeseen ways.

Abilities: Meira possesses a natural hardness that makes her a capable warrior. Through her training over the centuries she has become skilled with many weapons, perfected the uses of armor, learned the fighting techniques of exotic masters, and studied the art of combat, all to shape herself into a living weapon. Meira is a dexterous fighter relying on speed and reflexes rather than brute force though, being only as strong as the average angel, and is not only quick on her feet but excels in aerial combat, often using her flying expertise to her advantage. When it comes to demons there is no such thing as a fair fight, so Meira is not above using dirty tactics to get the job done. Accompanying her physical abilities are a set of specialized skills and powers that give her a very distinct style of combat. Because of the ritual that made her a Purifier, Meira is more inclined to use magic offensively and her combat prowess defensively.

See Sin; Meira is adept at sensing whether someone or their behavior is being influenced by an enchantment effect even if that person isn't aware of it. It can be used to identify curses and enchantments and properties of a magic item too. She can also discern information about demons with this ability. The amount of information revealed depends on how long she studies a particular area or subject, ranging from the type of demon to their abilities and what to expect of them in and outside of combat.

Sin Eater; She can consume curses and enchantments with physical contact. It will cure the original victim but makes Meira very sick for a few days after. The worse the ailment, the sicker she becomes. She can also use it to cure possession, mind control or perception alternating magic. In this case Meira becomes sick whether she succeeds or not.

Burning Magic; Offensively Meira specializes in fire magic. She can create fire through her hands or manipulate it into projectiles, walls, barriers, columns, rays, and even reign it down on foes like a meteor storm. Her skin tends to radiate heat, which she can control to make her surroundings unbearably hot.

Veil of Heaven; Meira can surround herself with a veil of positive, holy energy that repels demons. Demons that choose to withstand the aura are weakened. It can't be sustained for long, but long enough for her to get in some crucial blows or lash out and put some breathing room between herself and her attacker. Lesser demons will become terrified by this radiating energy and usually flee in a panic altogether.

Blank Mind; Being a Purifier Meira is nearly immune to possession and mind-affecting spells and effects. She is also protected from all devices and spells that try to gather information about her through divination magic. Were someone to make the attempt, Meira would instinctively be aware of it, but not who or why.

Appearance: Meira is taller than the average angel at five foot ten, with a graceful, slender physique accentuated by long point ears. At first glance she may appear feeble but her thin limbs contain surprising power and she seems to glide with the use of her wings rather than walk. They are the feathered, pure white wings most commonly associated with angels. Meira's wingspan is just under six feet. They are usually tucked behind her back. Pale white hair falls past her waist and appears metallic in the light, and at times a halo is visible just over her head. Her eyes glow a vibrant red, a stark contrast to her iridescent skin. Except for her arms. From the elbows down it is shriveled and blackened, the papery skin delicate and sensitive to the touch. It is the result of the ritual that made Meira a Purifier and gave her her abilites. Her fingerprints look like holy symbols. In civil circles she keeps her arms gloved because they make people uncomfortable. Meira is the queen of resting b***h face.

                                                        Fears & Weakness:
⊱ Water magic and even inclement weather can put a serious damper on her offensive abilities, hers being mostly fire based.
⊱ Her Sin Eater ability is touch based. She has to be within physical range to use it, which can be problematic when the cursed or possessed are so influenced to resist her.
⊱ Meira takes great pains not to hurt innocent victims under the control of demons and evil doers. She fears being responsible for their suffereing, even when it is sometimes necessary and a last ditch effort to help them.
⊱ Her biggest fear is that she somehow falls to mind control or possession and hurts innocent people. She is extremely resistant to such effects but not one hundred percent.
⊱ Secretly she dislikes it when people stare at her arms and hands, sometimes making her self conscious. It is the one thing that can potentially fluster her, and she only goes ungloved in combat or in very close company.

Personality: Nothing gets in the way of Meira's plans and ambitions, and she doesn't like taking shortcuts or cheating as either devalues her later satisfaction and is a waste of her skills. She values steady progress over short lived victories, and is exceedingly patient. Pessimistic by nature she does have a slight inferiority complex or fear of failure which drives her hard to succeed and to stand on their own two feet while doing so. Respect, recognition and praise are important to her, as is her public image as one of the higher ranked angels, despite the detached and seeming unemotional persona she exudes. Meira's self-sufficiency is often mistaken for coldness, but she just like to do everything herself so there is no need to worry about something not finished or not done properly. It is all about control of her surroundings and daily life and sometimes this spills into other people's lives. She knows her capabilities and therefore rarely trust others to finish details. This sense necessity for structure and work comes from a feeling that she is unworthy and needs to continuously prove her worth. Though Meira pretends otherwise she seeks compliments as much as other women, probably even more, but tends to see the world in black or white, angels and demons, definitive's only. There are no gray areas for those are areas that are not fully understood and this makes her feel uncomfortable for reasons she can't explain. Maybe being an angel its just her natural tendency to root out the bad. This train of thought leaks into Meira's personal life. She takes teasing a little too personal, not differentiating between flirtation and mocking, and isn't afraid to talk someone back, especially a demon. The point of it usually goes over her head. Appearances can be deceiving when it comes to her relationships. She is highly cautious and analytical when making new friends. To those close to her Meira comes across as motherly, if a bit overbearing, and is extremely loyal to her friends and family. As far as romantic relations have gone they have been far and few in between, having felt only partial and incomplete. Power struggles have been her main downfall. Meira may look the submissive one with her quiet demeanor and logical heart. With an overly realistic view of life that tends to overrule her emotions to the extent that she comes across as being aloof and unattached Meira is deceptively take charge and will dominate and control the relationship in sly and subtle ways, but eventually they fizzle out from lack of intensity or distrust.

Background: Meira's parents were high ranking angels, her mother a Virtue, or Angel of Grace, who worked blessings in the form of miracles on the mortal plane, and her father a Power, or warrior angel, tasked with combating demons in the everlasting war against Hell. She lost them both to the conflict at a very young age and so thats all she really knew about them. Both were entirely devoted to their respective causes. As an adult she'd learned their union wasn't a romantic one but a means of procreation to repopulate the ranks for battle. It wasn't an uncommon practice. Her earliest memories were of looking down from Heaven to the Earth below with her mother, watching humans in their day to day lives and marveling at how different they were. Her father is at best a distant figure on the edges of her memory. When they died Meira's life didn't really change much. She was placed in a home with other orphans and grew up listening to stories of battle, glory, and god but they were here, not there, so she didn't fully understand their deadly consequences. In most ways the war, to her immature mind, was an abstraction. Training started while she was young and it finally made it real to her. Meira went through all the basic education that all young angels did. She proved herself an exemplary student, her innate ability inherited from her father, and moved through the ranks quickly.

Part of her reveled in her accomplishments, but then another part didn't understand the senseless slaughter of it all. Growing up she'd been told all these terrible stories about demons, how they prayed on the weak and took advantage of the innocent. Meira had never seen it with her own eyes though, and doubt started having an effect on her performance. Her superiors took notice so she was reassigned to another job. She had connections from her mother with the Virtues, and through their careful monitoring of the world of man they occasionally came across demons crossing over to the plane to take advantage of mortals. Meira began working to root out these trouble makers. Soon she found the doubt she'd been experience replaced by compassion for mankind. It was different than the bloodshed of a mass battlefield. Meira had a purpose, and she was confident in her own abilities and opinions of what truly set angels apart from demon spawn.

During one mission a demon used that compassion against her. It was a rage demon carelessly summon from some inner circle of hell. It was crafty though, and tricked Meira into letting herself become possessed. She did terrible things under the influence of that demon, harming innocent humans and even killing some. The worst part was Meira was not blind to her actions. She was merely subdued, and watched the events unfold from behind bedeviled eyes. It was only after several Earth days that her frenzy was brought to a halt. Another angel appeared to cast the demon out and then killed it in its weakened form, burning it with an intensely hot fire that sprang from her hands until there was nothing but ash remaining. The angel called herself a Purifier. Meira was consumed by a need to redeem herself for what she had let happen, for the lives she'd taken under the demon's influence, and becoming a Purifier was the logical step to prevent anymore hell monsters from taking advantage of innocent people, human or otherwise. Memories of that terrible incident pushed her to transcend her teachers. She developed a seething hatred for demons, believing them beyond redemption. She no longer trusted them, or anyone really, no matter how sincere their attempts at peace. At the end of her training, centuries more later, Meira had master her fire magic and built up near impregnable mental faculties.

The last step in becoming a Purifier was a difficult one though, and not all angels survived the process. They needed a catalyst for their abilities, to sense and consume sins without dying and bolster their defense against possession from demons. The night of the ritual she traveled with her mentor to the crossroads between Heaven and Hell, where the clouds met lava pits and the scent of sulfur was nearly overpowering. There they opened a fissure in the ground and Meira plunged her arms into the demon slag without ceremony. It burned away her clothes and seared her flesh. She took the white hot heat and scorching fire into herself, unable to hold back the screams of pain that racked her body as the shock of it nearly made her black out from pain. Eventually the agony won out and she collapsed. Days later when she awoke, Meira found her arms blackened and nearly lame, her skin unnaturally sensitive to the touch and papery thin. She could no longer wield a sword or bow as proficiently, but it had worked.

Meira spent the next one hundred years trying to make up for her own sins. She made short work of any demon who dared impune upon the mortal world or tried to use humans to cross over and purified them with a baptism by fire. She gained a reputation as an eliminater, but in her frenzy to do right and righteous her demeanor turned cold, even to her comrades. It was a striking contrast to her fiery style of combat, which earned her several the nicknames among both demons and angels; the Purifier, Black Hand of Death, the Enkindler, Flamekeeper, the White Witch.

                                                        Other:
⊱ She suffers terrible nightmares from when she was possessed. Miera takes this as a sign she has not yet been forgiven for her sins, and until they stop continues to lay waste to any demon she comes across. She plays nice with them for now, but only because she knows it is only a matter of time before they give her an excuse to burn the mansion to the ground, with them all inside it.

¯ ¯ ↘ Meira has been well acquainted with violence from a young age. Thankfully she possesses a natural hardness that makes her a capable fighter. Through her training over the centuries she has become skilled with many weapons, perfected the uses of armor, learned the fighting techniques of exotic masters, and studied the art of combat, all to shape herself into a living weapon. Meira is a dexterous fighter relying on speed and reflexes rather than brute force though, being only as strong as the average Aasimar, though stronger than most humans, and is not only quick on her feet but excels in aerial combat, often using her flying expertise to her advantage. Her wings become her shield, and can even be used to attack and create great gusts of wind capable of harming foes.

Accompanying her physical abilities are a set of specialized skills and powers that give her a very distinct style of combat. She specializes in seeking out signs of possession or mind control that manifest from unwilling, and often unwitting, servants for fiendish corruptors and their mortal minions. Purifiers strive for liberation of mind, body, and spirit from the bondage of sin and the taint of the unholy. They seek out and end the corrupting influence at the root, saving those ensnared in such plots along the way. A incident in her inexperienced days left her arms burned and scarred however. Blackened to the elbow, they are sensitive to the touch and her skin papery thin which makes handling most martial weapons difficult for long. Neither is she as proficient as she used to be and can only call herself a master of few weapons now, most of them being ranged. When it comes to demons and the like there is no such thing as a fair fight , so Meira is not above using dirty tactics to get the job done. She is more inclined to use her magic offensively and her combat prowess defensively, employing a combination of scorched earth and hit-and-run guerrilla tactics.

Healing Hands; Her time in the temple has taught Meira basic healing spells. Being an Aasimar gives her a natural talent for it. She can provide immediate first aid or long care, treat disease or poison, identify and understand pharmaceuticals and herbs, but can do little to aid in deadly or fatal wounds.

She can create fire through her hands or manipulate it into projectiles, walls, barriers, columns, rays, spheres, and even reign it down on foes like a meteor storm. Her skin tends to radiate heat, which she can control to make her surroundings or skin unbearably hot.

Blank Mind; Being a Purifier Meira is nearly immune to possession and mind-affecting spells and effects. She is also protected from all devices and spells that try to gather information about her through divination magic. Were someone to make the attempt, Meira would instinctively be aware of it, but not who or why.

Veil of Heaven; Meira can surround herself with a veil of positive, holy energy that repels demons, monsters, and the like. Those that choose to withstand the aura are weakened. It can't be sustained for long, but long enough for her to get in some crucial blows or lash out and put some breathing room between herself and her attacker. Lesser demons and most undead will become terrified by this radiating energy and usually flee in a panic altogether.

P e r s o n a l i t y

¯ ¯ ↘ Nothing gets in the way of Meira's plans and ambitions, and she doesn't like taking shortcuts or cheating as either devalues her later satisfaction and is a waste of her skills. She values steady progress over short lived victories, and is exceedingly patient. Pessimistic by nature she does have a slight inferiority complex or fear of failure which drives her hard to succeed and to stand on their own two feet while doing so. Respect, recognition and praise are important to her, as is her public image as being of a higher rank than most in her field, despite the detached and seeming unemotional persona she exudes. Though Meira pretends otherwise she seeks compliments as much as other women, probably even more, but tends to see the world in black or white, good and bad, definitive's only. There are no gray areas for those are areas that are not fully understood and this makes her feel uncomfortable for reasons she can't explain. Maybe being planetouched its just her natural tendency to root out the bad. This train of thought causes problems in Meira's personal life.

¯ ¯ ↘ ¯ ¯ ↘ Meira came from very humble beginnings. Her family were part of a small farming community near the Malandaia-Zeladis border, where the plains met mountains. Their town was not poor, but neither were they rich. Many of their things were made by their own hands, and not the hands of craftsmen or any of the mystic races. Humans, they were, pure and simple. They liked it that way. When she was born, her father was set to anger. Where their kin were dark-skinned with sable hair, Meira came tumbling out bathed in glowing light, with radiant ivory skin and hair that shined like silver metal. He was set to be angry, but when he saw his daughter's face he knew there could be no other father. She barely cried when she came out, and when they placed her in her father’s arms she coo’d softly and went to sleep. There was no question about her patronage after that. Any curious looks or prodding were quickly silenced by the proud father. They named her Meira, meaning 'giving light, illumintes.' She was raised alongside two older brothers, who often took to safeguarding her against impertinent members of the community. For the most part she was treated as any other human child. Her birth was seen as a good omen for the town, but even though her family were understanding they could not escape her strangeness, or the curiosity, or even fear, that Meira's unique nature sometimes provoked among the townsfolk and outsiders alike. Many times they even suffered prejudice, something that deeply hurt her feelings as a child. Her family made their trade as leather-workers, and occasionally those wandering in from Zeladis would come into their shop. Most times they left after seeing the little Aasimar with her dusting of feathers across the shoulders. Many more would ask countless questions, and one even offered to buy Meira off her parents, which they staunchly refused and then had run out of town when he persisted. After a while the curious looks didn't bother her. The other children did not tease Meira, and she was well included in their games. She grew to be a tall, strong girl with all of the facts of life, simple as they are, well in place. Death was a thing that happened to the old or the infirm. Sometimes it took someone too young, but that too seemed like a fact and not a curse. There were dangers all around them, dangers that could snatch away and an infant's life just as quickly as an old mans. Sometimes bands of raiders came down the mountain to steal and casualties were expected when they did. Being a child did not make her exempt from that, and Meira was forced to defend her town alongside the adults on more than one occasion.

Meira tries not to think of the day the raiders came sweeping down the mountains for more than just loot. She was helping tending to the cow when she heard hoof beats in the distance, like claps of thunder coming closer and closer. Immediately she ran to her father's shop, but it was deserted, so she dodged to the back of the building into a cellar. Meira found another child hiding there already. Together they waited for what seemed like an eternity, until a hulking Norsii threw open the cellar door and discovered them. He tucked them under his arms like barrels and took them to the square. Some of the raiders were human, but many more were Drow and Norsii. There were even whispers of demons, as some were so fantastically different from their comrades the backwards town didn't know what to make of them. Men, women, and children were segregated apart. Meira saw her mother first, her eyes ringed with redness from crying. Her father was bloody, but standing tall. He was full of rage. She could not make out what the raiders said, so when they started killing the men, she was totally surprised. She watched them spear or shoot down every man in their village, one of her older brothers included being sixteen and nearly a grown man, to die alongside their father. Then, they chained the women and the children together and set them walking. Meira and her mother walked until their feet were bleeding, cracked, and beyond pain. She cried until she had no more tears left. Then, she withdrew into a stone faced silence. Some of her kinsmen tried to escape and run in the night, but the slavers merely cut them down in the dark. It sent a stark message to the rest of them. Luckily their captors avoided her, wouldn't even make eye contact with her. They walked for two weeks before finally reaching their destination. They arrived in a metropolis the likes of which Meira had never seen before. It was the last time she saw her brother before they were separated from her and put onto an auction block. Meira and her mother were sold as a pair along with some other boys from her town and sent to a farm. Her and the boys were used to pick fruit from the trees. Her mother was used for house hold duties and something she didn't understand at the time. They were lucky in a way. At least thats what her mother would tell her, with a trembling lip and her eyes on the ground.

It was three years into their enslavement her mother's spirit finally broke. She barely spoke anymore in those days, her eyes always far away except for she came in at night to look at her daughter as she slept. Meira was twelve years old. It was harvest time so they had had a particularly hard day of work. After the lights went out, her mother told her of an escape plan in hushed whispers. The spark seemed to come back to her then, if just for a moment. Maybe her mother had finally had enough, or maybe she feared for her daughter. Meira was getting older. She was twelve now and growing into a woman. Being a slave didn't change these facts of life, but slavery was not as forgiving to women as it was men. Being an Aasimar Meira was especially beautiful and alluring. Unfortunately she was beginning to draw the eye of their master. So together they hatched a scheme. The next day when the first shipment of fruit would be taken out, Meira's mother would set a distraction and while the slavers were occupied the two of them would hide in the baskets going into the city. Once there, one of their kin from their old town was waiting to help smuggle them out of the city and all three of them would flee across the mountains back to Malandaia. Then her mother told Meira she loved her and they went to sleep. In the morning everything went according to plan. Meira hid in the basket and was carried into the city. When the top of the basket was opened she saw a familiar face as promised. It was their neighbor's son, spared from the massacre in the square only because of an accident in his youth that left one of his legs lame. He explained he was part of a larger group smuggling slaves out of the country. Meira immediately went to the other basket for her mother, but to her shock it was empty. There was only fruit. Frantically, she asked what had happened. The boy wouldn't tell her, only reassured her things were going to get better. The first night into their trek Meira snuck away. She refused to leave her mother in that place. Somehow she found her way back, but got caught in the fields. They beat her senseless, until the master arrived and in a fury made them stop before she was disfigured. Her eyes swollen and mouth tasting of blood, Meira demanded to know where her mother was. The master laughingly told the Aasimar they had found her hanging in the barn.

After that Meira was relentless in her escape efforts. They tried to break her with tiresome manual labor, withholding food and water, and random thrashings. It only made her more adamant though, and she ran again. She was captured three days later and taken back to the farm. The man beat her, played at drowning her. Meira ran again. She was captured and dragged back. At one point the master brought in a strange man that tried to confuse her, tried to change her thoughts and memories. She hated this the most. Meira made a game a resisting it. This continued for well over another year until she finally caught a break and made it into the city. She'd stolen enough money to hitch a ride through the mountains. She was feeling almost safe when one of the other travelers accosted her. He underestimated the Aasimar's strength though, and Meira accidently killed him in her earnest to get away. Fearing retribution, or worse if they somehow found out she was a runaway slave, she disappeared into the wilderness where she wandered until passing out due to exposure. When she awoke she was in a temple. Meira had somehow made it across the border back into Malandria. Someone had found her and brought her to a temple. The priestess of the temple kept her. She did chores, but she also learned. They schooled her on all the things they did there. Meira met many travelers. She met traders, craftsmen, artisans, and concubines. She met thieves and priests. It made her realize how big the world really was outside of her small experience of it. It didn't keep the tears from falling, but seemed to stoke the fire of her heart to anger instead. She tried to work through it by committing herself to work, to earning her keep. The priestess assured her she could leave whenever she wanted. Meira opted to stay, having no where else to go and actually coming to enjoy temple life. She even discovered an affinity for magic and began learning healing spells.

One night, a night so cold and dark the stars almost refused to shine, a group of warriors barreled into the temple. One of them was restrained by their own men. He was raving, cussing, speaking in tongues. They explained something had possessed him and they needed help. The priestess did her best, but was unable to heal the man. None of the other healers had any better luck. The men seemed resigned to putting the poor fool out of his misery when Meira put her hand upon his head and suddenly he returned to normal. She couldn't explain exactly how she did it. Their leader, Erueyion, questioned her privately on the matter. He was Elven with piercing blue eyes and white blonde hair. He quietly explained his men were working to root out a group of slavers nearby. They were not ordinary slavers through. There was a sorcerer with them who cast some kind of pacification spell onto their victims. He'd personally hunted the blackguard for decades and never once had he seen someone lift one of the curses. Erueyion also recognized her for what she was, an Aasimar, and told her of the great potential she possessed. She was young still, but she could be taught. He offered to take her on as his apprentice if she joined their organization; The Argent Dawn. An organization focused on protecting the world from agencies that sought to destroy it and uphold order and justice through personal sacrifice .The next morning she gave her farewells to the priestess' and left with the group. She traveled with them for many years. Meira learned to fight well. She prayed often. Her faith was strong, but there was an angry darkness in her heart that nothing seemed to mend. She rarely slept through the night. Sometimes she would wake up screaming for her mother. Other times, she’d shake herself awake as she screamed in some indistinguishable language and thrashed in her blankets. Sometimes Erueyion would shake her awake. “The dreams again?” He would ask. Meira would nod and wait until her mentor had gone back to sleep. Then she would sit on his bed or his bedroll and pray for strength, honor, and righteousness until the sun came up. Erueyion was a good mentor, often prone to lecturing. He took Meira to many towns and villages. They saved people, helped the poor, re-built temples, and fought evildoers. They even managed to find Meira's lost family. While dismantling a slaver's farm one of the poor captives recognized her. It was her surviving brother, now old and aged and dying. Meira hadn't changed much being an Aasimar and thus aged extremely slow. He died not long after, but she took his remaining children and grandchildren from that terrible place and helped give them a better life.

Two centuries later they final found a lead on the brainwashing sorcerer. She and Erueyion had tracked him to another slaver base using his pacification spells to quell their victims. After cutting down the bandits the two confronted him. Only he wasn't just a sorcerer, but a demon. It was crafty too, and instantly latched onto Meira. It possessed her, locked her away inside her own mind and as it did so great plumes of flames erupted along her arms. She burned the place down around them, almost killing Erueyion in the process. He could do little to help her though and was forced to flee. Likewise the possessed Meira disappeared into the night. For days she wandered, killing anything and anyone she came across. Erueyion caught up to her once with reinforcements. She slaughtered most of them, leaving only Erueyion out of spite. The things the demon made her say to him were terrible and vulgar. The worst part was Meira was not blind to her actions. She was merely subdued, and watched the events unfold from behind bedeviled eyes. There was nothing she could do but perhaps wait and hope for someone strong enough to finally strike her down. Someone finally did come. It was not who Meira expected though. A small human no taller than five feet tall with bright red hair and freckles calmly approached her. The demon was tanked from its victories and let its guard down. She was just another victim, or so Meira lamented. But the woman surprised her. The Oracle, she later learned the woman was called, reached out and put her hands on the demon. It howled with pain as Meira felt its hold loosen. The edges of her vision began to flicker back to life. She vaguely saw the Oracle leaning over her, the human's arms strangely branded with glowing symbols that seemed familiar to her. Then came a pull, followed by steadfast resistance. She felt her arms explode with heat as it intensified but was unable to move them. She felt like throwing up, compelled to almost. She gave a great involuntary heave and from her mouth spilled a inkly black liquid. It ran down her arms and chest like melted wax only to crawl along the Oracles limbs and disappear into the symbols. The demon would not be defeated so easily however and made one more display of power. It channeled the last of its power into a scorching cone of fire directed at the Oracle. Miraculously the flames seemed to pass over her like a fog without doing any damage. Meira however was conscious enough to feel the searing blaze on her limbs. She felt her skin burn and peel away until her nerve endings screamed. Her own scream splintered through the chaos. It rose to a shriek, seeming to possess two different voices melded together, then fractured into a single, raw, deep wail and went quiet.

Meira awoke looking up at the sky. She was finally herself again. Her body was sluggish when she moved, but it was her own. Then came the same searing pain in her arms. The demon's vicious fire magic had left her limbs charred and burnt. She could barely moved them without crying out in pain. The Oracle was nearby but sickened. She was glassy eyed, gagged and vomited profusely, could barely stand. The two of them made a sorry pair. Together they made their way to the nearest settlement. It was agony for the both of them. Erueyion appeared some days after in a flurry and took them away to more comfortable holdings. It was some time before she spoke to the Elf again. The first time they were alone together again was awkward. They had traveled together for almost three hundred years now, but Meira remembered the things she'd said and done as clearly as any other memory. She remembered things shes been forced say to Erueyion especially, and it embarrassed her. They were intensely personal and betrayed some of the intimate details of their relationship that until then she was oblivious to. The implications of those words flustered her even more so. Then Erueyion had kissed her with a word and left her to the healers.

They could find no way to heal her arms. The vicious fire magic had left her limbs blackened and broken. Meira could barely move them without crying out in pain. She was bedridden until she mended. It was almost torture to lay in bed with nothing but her thoughts to keep her company. She kept thinking of the possession, and then Erueyion. He checked on her everyday, nearly every hour, but they never spoke of the kiss or anything but her recovery. The elf acted differently around her for some reason. Luckily she found a companion in her new bed mate. The Oracle was still sickened, and placed in her room with Meira. The company was welcome. They talked of a great many things until Meira finally asked how she had helped her. She had always had a natural ability to resist and cure mind-affecting spells and effects, but never had she dealt with something like possession. The Oracle gave her a little smile, then offered to teach her. When they were both well enough Meira went with the Oracle to her temple. Her goodbye to Erueyion was difficult but short, and she promised to write. Meira was consumed by a need to redeem herself for what she had let happen, for the lives she'd taken under the demon's influence, and learning from the Oracle was the logical step to prevent anymore hell monsters from taking advantage of innocent people, human or otherwise. Memories of that terrible incident pushed her to transcend her teachers, but also intensified her nightmares. She developed a seething hatred for Zeladis and most of its residents, believing them beyond redemption. She no longer trusted them, or anyone really, no matter how sincere their attempts at peace. At the end of her training, centuries more later, Meira had mastered her fire magic and built up near impregnable mental faculties to sense and consume sins without dying and bolster her defenses against possession from demons. Her arms were not nearly as nimble as they once had been, but with it gained an unlikely catalyst for her abilities. They proved to be powerful conductors for her fire magic.

Meira was nearly four hundred when she had learned everything the Oracles had to offer her. She kept a lively correspondence with Erueyion during her time away and when she returned to the company he was nearly his same old self again. She blended back into her old unit with little strain as well. Most of her comrades were newer to the organization, or had not battleed with the Aasimar before. Meira preferred it that way, preferred that none of them know about what had happened to her old friends and how she was responsible. Occasionally she went and visited her brother's family. To them she was only 'Sister,' and most of her earnings went in support if their family. The farm she had originally placed them on had prospered over the generations though and the Tova family now controlled a number of estates. Her brother's descendants would not have to live in the same meagerness that had had grown up in, which was comforting. Meira distanced herself from even them. Only Erueyion seemed to be able to get past the stoic facade she presented to the world. Being so near to the elf brought up old feelings and questions. One thing lead to another and they became lovers. She spent the rest of her time trying to make up for her own sins. She made short work of any evildoer, demon or otherwise, who dared impune upon the world or tried to brainwash others for nefarious purposed and purified them with a baptism by fire. She gained a reputation as an eliminator, but in her frenzy to do right and righteous her demeanor turned cold, even to her comrades. It was a striking contrast to her fiery style of combat, which earned her several the nicknames in both Malandaia and Zeladis; the Purifier, Black Hand of Death, the Enkindler, Flamekeeper, the White Witch. Her relationship with Erueyion strained and eventually broke. She added it onto an already long list of regrets. Meira threw herself into her work with the Argent Dawn. Over time she captained her own units, or worked alone at times. Her work became her passion. It distracted from the nightmares and gave her a sense of purpose. Nothing she ever did made her feel good enough though. Memories of slavers, possession, and driving away Erueyion makes Meira continue to doubt herself, to feel the need to prove herself.

H o w x Ix G o tx H e r e

¯ ¯ ↘ The Argent Dawn always offers up candidates for the games. Meira is their most recent choice and had little trouble making it through the qualifying tournaments. She jumped at the call of course, not only to prove herself capable and honorable but exuberant at the chance to strike at monsters and villains alike. Meira knows killing her foes is off the table, but she can certainly make them wish they were.
