In the corner of the patient room sits Adeline as she wakes up in terror from another nightmare.
Thinking to herself about how she will do anything to make these forsaken nightmares stop. The Dreams start off the same every night. I wake up to a painful scream. I jump out of my bed as quickly as possible running to a long hallway in my parents house, and there I see it... Blood everywhere. I hear another scream coming from the room at the end of the hall. I rush towards the door finding more blood and a tall dark shadow standing near the doorway holding a bloodstained knife.
Adeline's nightmares typically end at that point, with the last glimpse being of the shadow's murderous grin. The dream fades into darkness, and she always wakes up in a cold sweat. She's forced to relive the memories nightly, gradually growing more anxious about her nightmares not going away. She suddenly lets out a scream, startling a nearby nurse and causing them to walk over to Adeline's bedside.
The nurse is quick to scold Adeline, "you better be quiet and go back to bed, or else I will have to get a doctor. You know good and well what will happen."
As the nurse lectures her, Adeline repeats to herself that soon enough she will leave behind the hellish prison that she is confined to. Adeline grunts softly in response, turning over to stare at a crack in the wall. The broken girl was determined to break her metaphorical chains the asylum had on her, and finally be free.
