Abandoned Warehouse

This abandoned warehouse was once a thriving pet store. The glass doors are cracked, and bandaged over with rotting plywood. Six foot shelves are shoved against the doors to keep out the undead.

The place is bare now, with what little left being dog and cat food, litter, and toys. It was one of the only places left available after mobs ran through looting in the early panic.

The air condition is broken, the stale air carries a stench of pet food and algae infested aquariums.

Whoever chooses this place as their home will have to brave the never ending supply of pet kibble and smell.

((OOC: Posts do NOT have to be this long. I got a little carried away and its the first post of the role play. So I am just setting the scene along with my character. Don't feel intimidated; always post a length you feel comfortable with!))

Rue

Rue’s dyed pink hair looked magenta when it hadn’t been shampooed for weeks. She lit up another cigarette, hugging the paper wrapped tobacco to her dry chapped lips. She was running out of bottled water, and most water sources were contaminated with the virus, not that she would catch it. She was immune, something she wished her kid brother was. She took a drag from her cigarette.

She ran her fingers through her hair, remembering when she dyed it the first time. Back when the world was sane. Another drag. She exhaled the poison with a sigh. That didn’t matter now. Her auburn roots were starting to show and soon she’d having nothing left from the old world. Another drag.

Her view of the street from the warehouse roof top wasn’t by any means limited. She watched the entrance of the metro station, nothing entered, and nothing left. The usual.

The city was littered with trash, the smell of rotting flesh and built up trash had become the norm, and a refreshing break from the stale air inside her "home". She finished off her cigarette and threw it to the ground, snubbing out the embers with her boots. Her glance lingered down the road to the grocery store. Shampoo, soap, toothpaste, food that wasn’t wet dog food, would be in there. The last time she went; her fingers touched the scar on her eye. She barely made it out alive.

She was running low on the vending machine products she found in the break room. She had one small bottle of water left and a bag of fruit snacks. She’d have to count her cigarettes, smoking every time after she ate dog food was going to take her toll on her inventory.

She headed back downstairs, she needed to do inventory and organization. She was avoiding doing a raid at all cost, but then again, what did she have to lose?

Sid opened the door to his new home slowly, expecting an attack. Nancy by his side, he made his way quietly, his shank and home made (if you called that patch of woods and trash home) armor clinging to his skin under his baggy coat. He heard something behind him and spun around. "Man, you almost killed me. I got a weak heart...I think."

Nancy bared her teeth and growled low. "Nancy, heal. No, stop. What are you doing?" He knelt down beside her and put his hand on her back, then looked up at Rue. "Sorry bout that, she doesn't know when to quit."

Rue

Rue jumped and pulled a knife out of her back pocket, ready to defend herself against the new infestation.... It was a man. A Survivor. She cursed inwardly at herself, she needed to pay better attention when she was making her way back down from the roof top. Especially now that she was allowing people to stay with her.

Rue glared at the dog, "Don't worry about it. The feeling is mutual. There are raw hides in that pile of crap over there. Dogs like that chit right, bones and ropes?" She made a mental note to keep small bones in her pockets to toss the wolf when the new guy wasn't around it.

"That's the break room, hope you don't plan on having your own room. We all sleep in the center. We all take watches. Privacy isn't a luxury we can afford. And definitely not with strangers." She pointed her thumb behind the kid to a clearing that was surrounded by organized piles of kibble, toys, and dog beds.

"Sweet." He looked around, taking in everything. "Nice set up you got here. Kinda homie. Better than the last place. Have you ever slept on a bed of rocks using an over protective wolf as a pillow? Not a fun ride, man." He pulled a pack of cigarettes out of his jacket pocket. "Is it cool if I smoke in here?"

Rue

Rue remembered humming her kid brother to sleep in an eerie subway car that offered only flickering lights. The mock screams of monsters giving her brother nightmares and the scraping along the car when the Flash Mobs searched for their next meal...

She snapped out of it, "Must've been hard." she replied. She wouldn't call this place homie, but it was gold compared to other places. She eyed his pack of cigarettes. She was thankful she had already smoked before coming down, otherwise she'd have to ask this guy for his stuff.

"Don't smoke inside. The smoke will never go away. No air movement." she gestured to the ladder, "Up there is the roof. Smoke outside. Your dog thing can stay down here, I'm sure she's the happiest of us here anyway."

Rue picked up a large 'bacon flavor raw hide' and slid it towards the huge dog.
"My name is Rue by the way." she gave the man her last name. The last person to call her Kiko was Drexel, and she preferred it that way.

Charlie

ooc: I'm going out of town this weekend. No internet but i might still be able to post from my phone

Charlie heard people talking inside the building the girl had told her about. She decided to check around the outside before going in herself. The building looked sturdy enough but they'd have to reinforce the broken glass doors with something sturdier than plywood that looked like it was going to crumble at any moment.
This place will do. Time to stop stalling
Charlie stuck her head in the open doorway.

"No problem." He pocketed the smokes and looked down at Nancy to watch her enjoy the raw hide. "I'm sure if she could she would thank you. Treats like that are few and far between." He looked around a bit more, not seeing any food for humans. He reached into his bag and pulled out a plastic bag with a couple of dead squirrels inside. "You got a place to cook or something?" They were the last of his kill from yesterday but he was willing to share and planned on getting more tomorrow.

Rue

Rue looked at the man like he was stupid, "Why would I have a place to cook? It's an old pet store. If you find some stuff to make a fire-," movement from the doors caught her attention, her hand on her knife's hilt she turned to see a head of a woman survivor.

"Well don't stand there. Come in, you'll attract Zombies." she snapped at the woman. People had been in her home for no longer than thirty minutes and she regretted opening up to them already. She needed another cigarette. She took a deep breath, if Drexel was still alive; he would want her to do this.

Charlie

Charlie went fully into the building and shut the door behind her, making sure it was secure. "Hey, y'all are the ones who left the door open. I'm sorry if I didn't want to get my face chewed off but the huge do...is that a wolf?!?!" At the sight of what could only be a wolf, and not a large dog that she originally thought, she took a step back.

Nancy dropped the bone and growled. "Nancy, no." He rubbed her back as she resumed chewing. "Sorry, she's head strong. Hi, Sid, this is Nancy. Please don't sing Sex Pistols at me." He shot her a wobbly.

He put the squirrels back in his bag and headed for the ladder. Suddenly, a rooftop smoke didn't seem like a bad idea.

((OOC: I'm going off for a bit, but I'll be back on later.))

Rue

Rue shot a glare at the man, she still hadn't caught his name, "It was already open? I lock my doors every time I leave and enter. You should do the same." She walked towards the doors and pulled them shut, avoiding the wood. Last thing she needed was an infection from a moldy splinter. She locked the doors and adjusted the shelves accordingly. If more people needed to come in, they could knock. Like human beings. Or Monsters. If they learn... She refused to finish that thought. She had enough night mares to worry about.

She looked back at the wolf and then back to the girl, "It's his apparently. The name is Rue."

"In my defense, I'm kind of dumb." He changed his mind about the smoke and wandered over to the dog food. There were lots of bags and cans of things meant for dogs but after the tong lashing he received only moments ago he decide this would be good for tonight. The squirrels would be rancid by morning but there were more for the taking just behind the tree line.

He had eaten dog food before. This wasn't his first rodeo, he knew his way around the brands. The cheep stuff gave him gas and Ol' Roy gave him hallucinations, but on the top shelf, just out of reach he hit the mother load. At least a dozen blue cans sat untouched. He clamored up the shelf, knocking a few cans down as he climbed up, and pulled down three cans. One for him and one for each of the ladies. He walked over to them and put one in each of their hands. "Bon appetite." He pulled the tab on his own and started spooning it into his mouth with his fingers.

Charlie

"Charlie. And sorry but the reference goes over my head." Charlie shrugs apologetically. She took a moment to look around the pet shop, noteing the roof hatch and making a mental note to check that out later.

Charlie turns back at the racket the man is making to get something off the top shelf. He comes down and hands a can to her...of dog food.

"Wait! I have..." but it was too late. Sid was already shoveling the dog food into his mouth. "I have canned food." she finished lamely. Charlie took her bag off her back and dug for the plastic bag of canned goods.

Offering up her food only served to remind Charlie of what she’d lost to get most of it.

It was early in the morning when Charlie had left her hiding place to look for supplies with the group she was staying with. They weren't the best people but nowadays any people is better than no people. They had decided to check out a row of houses for food and water; they had learned the hard way early on that not everyone survived drinking the running water and, while Charlie wasn't sure if she was immune or not, it was better safe than sorry.

It was while they were checking out the third house in the row, having found very little in the first two, that everything went to s**t. One of the guys had said something about a back room and the next thing she knew there was pandemonium in the crowded kitchen. Before they were even given time to react three out of their group of seven were dead and another two were seconds away from joining them.

With the odds of them surviving a fight that they were greatly outnumbered on, Charlie grabbed the remaining survivor, pushed her out the door and went to run from the scene when the girl turned on her demanding they go back.

”We can’t go back. They’re dead and unless you want to join them I suggest we get moving!”

“But some of them were immune” the girl had shouted back, as if Charlie didn’t remember who could and couldn’t drink whatever water they found regardless of the source.

”Did you see what those creatures did?! It doesn’t matter if they’re immune, they’re dead either way” Charlie wanted to scream at the girl but they needed to be quiet, not that that had stopped the girl from being loud.

The sounds of the creatures from inside started to get closer and just as Charlie was about to force the girl to run, the idiot punched Charlie in the gut and started to fight her way back in.

Charlie made a pained sound but forced herself to turn away and get moving.

Two days later she had met Rue

"Help yourselves to whatever's in there. It's not much, just five cans of baked beans, a half eaten protein bar and a bottle of water. I'm gonna go lay down somewhere." Charlie leaves her bag of food there and goes to find somewhere to rest. Finding a decent spot she lays down, closes her eyes and sleeps.

Rue

Rue was wondering if her mother was right and that if he kept glaring and scowling it would stick. Because her glare was permanently on, what did he say his name was? Sid? He made a huge commotion grabbing a few cans from a top shelf. He offered her a can, of her own food, and dug in. Rue hated ALL of the dog food, and that can was no different. She was better with the Authority Wet food, the cans that Sidney, Thank God, hadn't touched. She wondered, as she watched him scarf the food down with his fingers, if she should hide her cans and let him have all the cans she didn't like...

Then the girl, Charlie, opened up her bag, watching Sid with the same... disgust, and pulled cans of food. Real food. Rue stared at the canned food as if this girl delivered Heaven. The raid could be pushed back a few days!

"No one is helping themselves. We ration this! The longer we have this, the longer we can avoid doing a raid. The grocery store is Hell to get into, get through, and get out of." She organized the food into it's own pile and picked out a can of beans. She didn't open it, but she would eat it for breakfast tomorrow. And she wouldn't smoke afterwards. She put it down, carefully, next to the dog bed that served as her pillow and looked back at Sid.

"We can cook the squirrels. No reason to let them go bad. You skin them and I'll build a fire. And... don't make a mess of my place. I spent months organizing this place to a T. I know where everything is, so don't move anything." She looked at the wolf, At least someone here will enjoy the food.
