I usually don't tell unless I'm asked, if it's obvious I'm having issues there's almost always someone who will say it for me. I'm going to a partial hospital right now and everytime we get someone new I have to say it and it's just weird.

Ahhh. Yeah for me it's just people at school. I hadn't told my mom about how I felt for a long time. When I did she kinda ignored it.
I told a few people that I was suicidal and nohting more because I told them that and the handled the information very incorrectly.

If I'm asked... or if the subject rises in conversation.
On occasion, after the subject has been approached, some well meaning but clueless soul will take me to one side and say somnthing along the lines of: "If you ever need a shoulder to cry on or someone to talk to..."
And I'll have to say, as nicely as possiably: "Thanks, but all the crying and talking in the world isnt going to adjust the levels of chemecals my brain produces..."

razorgod Hypomanic Poet or "calm the ******** down". stare Which just makes you even more pissed............ It makes me want to kill something half the time. But even if I'm pissed off at a specific person, I'd have to be REALLY angry (or drunk) to punch them. I hate hurting people, so I just either break my knuckles on walls or I try to walk off and simmer for a bit. Either way, it bugs the s**t outta me. stressed

I only tell people who I know have Bipolar as well, or some kind of mental illness, cause I know they'll understand. Other than that, I tell very very few others. My family doesn't even know.

I don't tell anyone, unless I'm about to get into a serious relationship, or I have some sort of job or commitment.
And those who know I have it can tell my episodes, and have almost a psychic sense of when they will switch and whether or not they should stick around me.
I really hate how patronizing people can be about it. "You know, this doesn't have to affect your life so much. You can ignore it."
Doesn't have to affect my life. Hah. That's why it's called a "disorder", because that's all it seems to do. The knowledge you seem to have, the thoughts you have, the deepness. You can never tell people, because they will never understand.
You could try to show them the beauty you will see. Such as standing on the tip of a cliff, looking down at the great wonder and beauty of it. How it makes you feel invincible, and important, and beautiful. How that is truely perfection, and if you jumped, then you might fly. But how would you know if you never jumped?
And they look at you wildly and tell you to come back to them and let's go home, you should rest. But you feel so invigorated and well and like everything will be alright, because that is one of the few things that can make you forget every little detail and just focus on the big picture. Because who, when observing a painting, focuses only on the texture of the tree? Or only how the colors of the pebble blend? They don't, they like to look at the entire thing.
I only wish that I could. Or even more, I wish I could show them. If they saw, then maybe they'd stop being so harsh, you know? Mental illness is a dreamer's sanctuary. You never grow ill or tired of imagining things, because sometimes it's all you ever have. No one gets that, and if they try, it scares them.

My friends and some of my family know. But no one at my job knows. A lot of people look down their noses at those who suffer from mental illnesses, so you gotta be really careful who you trust with that kind of information.

i tell people so that there is an awareness of what it is. or if there is discussion about mental illness, i jump in. i don't have any friends out here, and all i do is work, and recluse at home with my boyfriend, so really, it's more of theoretical talk. no one at work sees me act crazy. they see me act sweet, and shy, and polite. it's my job. not really too big of a task. sometimes at work i really want someone to talk to about it on a personal level... like, "dude, i really want to cry right now, and this smile is hurting my mouth, and i'm sick to my stomach... no, nothing bad happened at home, just that... there are so many babies in the store... " you know... but life isn't like that. i've told people at work, adults, because i was trying to get on medicaide or something to help pay for my meds so i can get on them again, so naturally i was asked what in the world could cost you $1,600 a month for meds? you have cancer or something?! no, it's an antideppressant and antipsychotic... then there is a hush and no one ever talks about it again... but i guess my point is, i do talk about it a bit, but on a fundamental level, not in a personal way like, "sometimes at night i am so manic i chew my fingernails of and i just want to run the blade over here and i want to hide sometimes in his chest because i get so sad and there are a lot of reasons to be sad but they don't come up until after the sadness, really and..." no, never personal...
uh... i talk too much. sorry... i'm gonna go read until my man gets to the library and... yeah, see ya.... sweatdrop
