Not sure how many of you have played this game, but I picked it up after a few years to find that the people at this server had managed to add new machines from other UC wars...only for the Zeon to boycott for some reason and drive the player base to a FRACTION of its former self. I love this old game, and want to see it succeed again. The server recently moved to England to a new admin, though the old one is still involved. Maybe some of you can take a look or return if you're old hands. http://ucgoserver.com/It's a 3D MMO set in U.C. 0079, in Australia and in space. It's Federation vs. Zeon, and NPCs can be fought as can other players. It originally only had Mobile Suits from 0079 and 0080, but has been upgraded by the old admin with even more MS from these eras, 0083, the Gryps Conflict, and even a couple from Char's Counter Attack. They need a new injection of players desperately, and it's free, so feel free to give it a shot. Sorry for the plug.

How's the playerbase though?

That's part of the problem. The playerbase has slumped. There used to be up to 80 people online at a time, but I measured less than 20 on the whole server yesterday. Some are Japanese and don't speak English, though there has always been an English community. The forums are still alive too.
They need an injection of players to rebuild after Zeon did some sort of boycott and pretty much brought things to a grinding halt, and a server move last month. I don't know why that was, but there was always a lot of complaining about game balance on both sides...which I never got the reason for at any point. Zeon and EFF both have fantastic suits and weapons. Typical "nerf other side plz" crap being tossed back and forth, I always thought.
I do think that Zeon got banned from using the GP02A due to spamming it a while back though. Can't be sure that's the issue though.
Just know that one has to build up skill points to unlock the best suits, so you can't just jump into a Gundam and trounce your enemies off the bat. You also have to go to supply stations and hidden bases to fight enemy machines surrounding them (start with the ones around Sydney), and go to actual cities to craft and such.

That does sound like the usual Rpg crap. Most games beef rather than balance though. II'll give it a try later. (Not sure how many guildie are active 7_7)

Okay. I've never played SDGO, but I know that this came first. If you need help, you can check the forums, or look online for the wiki or youtube guides too. Some of those predate the implementation of the new Mobile Suits/Mobile Armors/Battleships though.

As much as I love zeon's tech, it sounds like the Feddies need reinforcements to their playerbase.

Both sides seem to, really. You can also have two players per account and multiple accounts. Making a UCGO account is as easy as making up a name and password at the login screen.
I'm starting out as a Feddie though, yes. There are character creation guides as well.

I learn better by experience than videos, although I'll be sure to check em out.

I personally like to swap the sidestep and strafe buttons, and tinker with the jump and sprint buttons. You are able to change the controls around. The options are in Japanese, but there's enough english text and syntax to figure things out usually. If not, there are translations available. I think there's an English patch, but I don't know if it works with the new server or not.
The options also show the various commands you can use. "/taxi" summons a taxi for $650 (low cost) for getting around faster until you get to the hangar. If you're too far away from your destination/it's outside the city, you can use "/transport" for a bit less than double the price. For reference, you start with $1,000,000 and most of the OYW stuff is free. You need to build MS skill before getting the good stuff though, which goes up by 0.1% maybe every half hour your machine is moving? People use automated scripts sometimes to control the keyboard and mouse if they're impatient, usually AutoIT, and it's not frowned upon to do so on this server to level MS Skill and other things. "/getoff" lets you get out of a vehicle, and a necessity for exiting a taxi.
The first thing you'll want to do is find the hangar (consult the map), and "/mark" it. Then you can go right to it whenever you need to. clicking on the hangar lets you choose which of your mobile suits to use, and you start with two training types. GM Trainer or Zaku I if I remember correctly. If there is a community in the city you're in at the moment, they'll likely be around the hangar.
"/mark" lets you mark your current location for reference. That way you can use "/transport" to go to that spot, have your mobile suit autorun there (straight line, so can't be used where there are buildings unless you're in a fighter jet, etc. "/mark" is a critical ability for remembering the hidden supply bases as well as in scripted actions. You'll find other stuff as well as you go. Don't be afraid to ask questions.

Throw you a Pm once I have an account up?

Sure thing. I need to set up a combat character anyway. Been building a crafter up until now.
By the way: people seem to swear to sticking with a mix of Spirit and Luck. I'm trying a 0/100/70 starting build. We'll see how it goes.

Happens. I'll be at Sydney Hangar. "Blues Arnoul" will be the character's name. Start in Sydney when it asks. It's closest to the rookie training area.

Remember, you have to run the extract as administrator. Also try compatibility mode for XP or Vista once it's installed.
Edit: Also remember that it needs Direct X 9.0b or something. In case you're running a clean install or something. I recommend the Direct X 9.0c standalone install.
