When we were younger, it was our parents that will plan how to celebrate your birthday.
I was wondering how do you like to celebrate your birthday at your age.
For now, I just choose a date that most of my friends can come have supper at a restaurant that's all...
I don't want to gather in my small apartment because it is small, it can disturb my neighbors, I'll have to provide food, drinks, utensils, and clean before and after.
Maybe one day, when I'll be able to ''buy'' the food, have a larger space and maybe a house where there is no neighbor downstair to complain about the noise. I feel celebrating a birthday in a closed place is more intimate, we can have more fun, play games...
In a restaurant, we just enjoy the food, talk a bit, change seat because it's hard to talk to the one at the end of the table. When we are done eating we go home. I don't go to club. It's less tiring because I won't need to clean up the dishes, and bring the food.

For the past few years (and scheduled for tomorrow), a close friend has taken me to the city for Middle Eastern food and to visit the big library . . . We might be huge nerds; we are both English professors at university. xd Anyway, this is probably not everyone's idea of birthday fun, but it's about perfect for an introverted book lover like myself, and I really appreciate that my friend goes to the trouble to remember my birthday and invite me out each year. heart

I take the day off from chores. I don't do anything 'special' because in my family of origin once people reach about 10 years old that kind of thing stops, and it just became engrained in me. My wife will usually buy me some stuff, too. But not having chores is good enough for me!

Before I would go to a restaurant with a few people, but since my uncle hosted a sushi party for me and showed me how to make it, I think I'm going to do that from now on. smile

Like the last few years I will be working on my birthday, not doing anything for it this year. Though i'm still happy because my sister got me the prettiest necklace when i went home last weekend.

When I was younger I'd have birthday parties. Usually small ones but often with a theme. As I got older, that stopped. I was never big on partying! At most in our family now, we go out for dinner and the one who is celebrating their birthday picks the location. Rarely gifts, usually just cards. It's nice, quiet and simple.
This year though is my 30th. I didn't do anything big for my 25th and I'm debating if I want to for this "milestone". At most, now that I live in the country on an acre of land, I may just invite friends & family over and we have a BBQ and bonfire.

The last two years (Last year and this year) , I would travel with my family to my favorite place, Folly Beach. We would arrive on the 14th, and celebrate my birthday on the 17th with shopping, cake, and of course dinner biggrin

I usually don't plan much of anything for my birthday, usually a nice dinner at home with family but this year I was especially spoiled. I got cards from everyone, spent the morning with my ma running around town, came home to my hubby making me dinner and a cake with the help of my kids and a gift from all of them. Then my sister took me out to see a roller derby (my first!) and I loved it! It was a blast! Then we went out and smoked some hookah and I had a few drinks, one of which was paid for by the bar for my birthday, they were so sweet!!
I had a wonderful, fun filled day. =)

My birthday are the same day as my Grandmums' so often we just make it a family dinner with a cake, and the "party" part is postponed till nameday (this we have at different times wink ) ... But anyway it's never a big bang - my flat is to small to have more than three people in it at the same time, and going to clubs and such is way too loud... Not to mention that as a birthday girl I would be expected to drink and I never do that in high risk places...

Usually, my husband and I like to try and go out of town. I prefer going to the coast. We live in Oregon, and the city we usually travel to is only an hour away. This year we ended up going to Portland, and I really missed the ocean. So, it's probably back there next year. biggrin

I usually treat it like any other day of the year, save for all the birthday wishes on Facebook and Gaia. I get cards from my grandmother, my parents, one of my mom's cousins, and my sister. But yeah, apart from spending a couple of minutes opening and appreciating the cards and going through the online well wishes, it's just another day in my life. So a six hour workday tomorrow at the library, followed by sitting around at home being bored. xD
