I think this is the right subforum. If not, please move it to the right one!
Anyway, for a few months I have the urge to write a story. Problem: I lack inspiration. I have 0 ideas on what to write. Someone suggested fanfiction, but even with fanfiction I get stuck because I lack ideas. gonk
How do you guys/writers cope with that?

I write fanfiction myself, usually when I write fanfiction I think of a situation or event and wonder 'what if it went another way?' or 'it would have been better if this happened instead of that happening. When I get stuck with writer's block/lack of inspiration( which frequently happens xp ), I sometimes get inspiration when I take a break, and either watch some anime or play video games. Hope this helped you in any way possible biggrin

Sometimes but not always, in fact some fanfiction writers have the lesser or secondary characters as the main character in their story, and there are at times where they create their own original characters to be the star of the story.

fairy-phoenix - and there are at times where they create their own original characters to be the star of the story. That's kind of where I want to go too. Haha. I just need a good plot. burning_eyes

Other favorite series are Forever (but I don't dare fan fiction that. The main character is difficult to write out). Walking dead and Grimm.

Listening to music often helps me write and gain inspiration and motivation, but I understand music may not be for everyone.

I know this is late, but I'm still going to leave this comment.
I'm one of those people that's on the fence about blockages in writing. I get how you might find yourself at a lack for ideas, or just in need of motivation or inspiration. I do believe in the advice that, "you need to quit your belly-aching, get your act together, and go find it." In that spirit, you need to be able to see the possibilities whenever you're out and about. You need to think about everything going on around you, and human/animal behaviour. If you're out for dinner, take a look around. What kinds of people are there? Groups? Pairs? Individuals? Why are they there? Is it obvious? Or do you have to watch for a few moments to figure it out? How do you know why they're there(ie, notebooks and laptops for students studying together while they grab dinner, or balloons and conical hats for a birthday)? The questions could go on for quite awhile, and you should be trying to ask yourself these questions on a frequent basis. You can write down a number of these observations, or anything interesting that catches your interest. Then don't bloody well dally on writing scenes, scenarios, acts, and the likes. From there, you can further the story, but it's always prudent to understand when you need to stop the story. After all, who likes story filler? (You can see perfect examples of story filler in anime -- where whole episodes are dedicated to side stories that have no relevance to the main story, are quickly forgotten, and have no impact on the story as a whole. Such anime that are guilty of this would be: One Piece, Bleach, Pokemon, Case Closed, among plenty more.)
