My mom believe that it is a big disadvantage for a woman to live alone.
Because people with bad intentions will target ''weak prey'' like single and living alone woman to rob or worse rape.

There are rape cases that were put in the news where the rapist attack women that walk alone, live alone...

It is true that it happens and of course it doesn't happen to every women living alone.

I always wanted to live alone, I am single, I don't have other people that I know (friends or family) that could cohabit with me. No way that I'm going to live with strangers or live with a guy. The only situation that I would live with a guy is when he is my boyfriend or a friend that is gay.

Anyways, right now I can't because I don't have the income for that.

My mom also says that even if it's 2 women living in a apartment it is not enough... It REQUIRES a man.

Sorry mom ! But I'm not going to grab any guy to live with me just for that.
An year ago, my mom had a guy friend that cohabited with us. They were like a couple but not really. They had the same idea of ''I'm afraid to die alone, I have no one by my side ....'' Long story... I've talked about it before here on gaia, but you might not remember me or read the topic.

Just to conclude, I understand my mom, I know that unfortunately women are picked as prey. My solution to live alone is to earn enough money to rent an apartment in a safe neighborhood.

What do you think?

I basically lived alone for about 3 years. I lived with my ex but he was always either at work or asleep, so really it was pretty much the same most days. I had no issues and I know plenty of other women that live alone with no issues as well.

I can understand the worry of you living alone but it is completely sexist and narrow minded to think that you have to have a man around to avoid danger. :/

A safe neighborhood sounds like a good idea, but maybe also invest in a self defense course. Even a neighborhood that appears safe can have dangers (as well as everywhere else that you go) and it's better to be prepared to protect yourself than to maybe need the skills and not have them later.

The problem I am seeing is something that is the reason your mother is afraid of, but from the opposite end of the spectrium. Many guys WON'T room with a girl, because if she claims rape, most people won't even listen to him, even if he is innocent. So, that being said, until you can move in with a boyfriend or something, your kinda S.O.L. on this one.

Btw: Most mother's won't let their sons room with a female roommate anyways, so unless your mother can really sweet talk them, you aren't going to be getting very far with her 'requirements'

My friend Ree lives alone with her 9 years old son.
She never has a problem with that but tends to get annoyed by her son.
All I know she is capable to always manager to take care of herself with her son.
