Welcome to Freedom Kennels.

Your car turns up the gravel driveway and into the carpark. The loose rubble scrunches under the wheels as you pull the vehicle into the park mode, and get out. It is a nice, breezy spring day. The sun is out, and the kennels seem deathly silent. Could this be the right address? The pamphlet had suggested that it was noisy and boisterous and full of life. Instead, the place looks deserted.

Then, you hear the crunch of boots upon the drive and look up to see a young girl with blonde-brown hair, wearing a christmassy hat, a blue magician's hat, and a snowman made of marshmallows on her head, hastening toward you. The girl waves and hurries over. As she draws nearer, you can see that she's wearing a red mask and flowery bracelets.

'Hi!' She greets you. 'I'm normally out here sooner, but I was all caught up in the kennelling papers.'

She holds out her hand.
'I'm Moon, by the way.'

She does not move.
'Freedom was established in the year 2005. It was my parents' dream, but I was the one who got through with it. The name of the kennel is symbolic in the spirit of our entire family, which we are hoping to pass onto the dogs.

'Our kennel focuses mainly on breeding Working dogs, Herding dogs, and Hound dogs. All other breeds and categories, we consider miscellaneous. You could say that we consider them secondary. So do not be surprised if you see tons of Huskies, Newfoundlands, sheepdogs, and Beagles and barely any Poodles.'

You follow Moon into the building. Light aircon is on, and it's refreshing after the hottish outdoors. Moon motions to a rack standing near the door.

'Those are maps of the kennelgrounds. Because they're so big, we often find that our guests get lost. You can take one if you want. If not, wander at your own risk!'

The teen shoots you a grin, and you start to wonder if she's normal to be running a kennel like Freedom alone. Even so, you are a little shaken and decide to take a map just in case. It's kind of crude, and obviously hand-drawn, but hand-drawn so that it looked good enough on special map paper.

1) This is the carpark. It is a small carpark, built that way to conserve space. Obviously, the dogs are all that's important here at these kennels. Too many cars will bother them, so many of the vehicles are parked outside to keep that from happening.
2) The paths. The golden-yellow-orange lines are paths, leading from one kennel block to another. No cars are allowed on these paths, although there has been sightings of horse droppings out in the field where nobody ever goes. Is it possible that there are also horses somewhere?
3) This is the house. The bit outside is where the house dogs play. The house is two-storied, and half of the first floor was converted into an administration office. If you go into the play yard, and turn to the left, there is a window there with staff waiting for inquiries.
4) This is the bigger of the two kennel blocks. This one is where all the show dogs are housed. Each kennel stall has a runway to the outside, where the dogs are let out every day. The kennels are wide and spacious.
5) The smaller of the two kennel blocks, this building houses pregnant bitches, as well as the ones that have had their puppies. Once the pups have been weaned, they are sold, if not kept. After that, the mothers are put back into the first kennel block, while the pups stay in this building until they are ready to proceed with their training. Note that there are no boarding kennel blocks.
6) The barn is used for storing bedding, food, toys, and other accessories for the dogs. Occasionally used to train the dogs and prepare them for show.
7) The river. This leads to the small pond at the northwest corner of the property. The water is shallow and clear, and the rocks are the bottom are polished and round. A perfect place for the pups to play, because the current is not at all swift. There are a few fish lingering around the bigger rocks.
8 ) The pond is a great place for boating. It is not a boat-renting service, of course, but there are occasionally outings held in small rowboats on the pond.
9) The orange things across the rivers are bridges.
10) All the rest are fields for the dogs to excersize in. They are turned out and exercized everyday.
11) This is a must-have for all respected kennels. A large gate set into the stone wall that surrounds the kennels. It is a swinging gate, hugely tall, and somewhat intimidating. It is beautiful and white, with the word 'Freedom' interwoven into the metal design on one gate, and 'Kennels' interwoven into the other. A real state-of-the-art creation.

Also, on the back is a list of how a person is supposed to behave at Freedom.

Moon leads you into the kennels, and motions to the first set in the block. There are a bunch of big dogs, each looking up at you with soulful eyes and wagging tails. Some bark, some whine, some scratch at the mesh doors.

'These here are the working dogs.' Moon explains, motioning to the nearest dog. 'We split up the dogs in different categories so it's easier to find them all. Even so, it's hard enough with all the kennelwork and just me!'

You decide to take a closer look at the working dogs.

Moon steers you farther into the kennel block, as if somewhat pressed for time. Well, you don't blame her. After all, she's the sole owner and staff of Freedom. Somewhat miraculously.

'Here are the herding dogs, the dogs that herd sheep. Like Lassie.' Moon adds with a fleeting grin, motioning at a black-and-white Border collie in the pen beside her.

You nod, interested. Lassie, huh?

'And here are the hounds. They're the hunting dogs.' Moon pokes her fingers through the mesh to play with a handsome tri-color beagle, who barks and wags its long, powerful tail.

You peer cautiously at the beagle, who stares up at you and pants. He's quite cute, you decide, and move on to the next hound pen.

Moon moves on more and then you see a row of kennels filled with more finely bred dogs. The girl stops at one and clucks her tongue. Immediately, a beautiful russet colored Golden Retriever, whose coat was speckled with light gold, came up, his tail wagging.

'These are the sporting dogs,' Moon explains, laughing as the Golden snuffles at her palm in hopes of a treat. 'Meet Dusty.'

Huh, what's this? You find a plaque on the wall, engraved with the names of all the kennels that Freedom is familiar with.

Moon seems to sweep by this plaque, as if completely unaware of its existence. You decide it is best to follow her. After her previous warning, you don't want to get lost.

You find a chalkboard mounted on the wall. Written in flourishy handwriting are the names of the Freedom dogs, currently out in Block 2 for breeding.

You pause to scan through the names. These were the possible parents of your possible new dog. That's why you are here, isn't it?

Then you find a bulletin board, with tons of pins and pictures of puppies. Each cluster of pictures is one litter, and under each pup is a price tag. The sign says 'Pup Sales'.

Could one of these adorable puppies soon be yours to take home? You know there will be bunches of forms to sign, agreements, payments, checkups, vaccinations, but these puppies were just so gosh-darn cute! You stop in front of it, staring at the photos.

Moons returns to your side and looks with you.
'Oh, those are good family pets.' She recommends. 'And those have great potential to be in the show ring. You'll have to decide.'

You find a calendar tacked up against the wall. Something else against the wall?! You read it and you find that it details all the recent happenings at Freedom.

Moon pauses, and shoots a glance at you, as if impatient. But then, you are taking quite a few stops. Even so, you want to read what's been going on.

You find yet another bulletin board, this one next to what seems like a big display case. This one has pictures of dogs with big trophy cups, and scores.

Moon observes the pictures with you, obviously happy that you are taking an interest in her show records. Freedom is a big kennel, and there are show records, like all others.

You move to look into the case. You see that the display case is a trophy display. It contains all the trophies seen in the pictures on the bulletin.

Moon seems extremely proud of this case. She stops before you do, and almost presses her nose up against the glass of the case.

'These are all won by my dogs.' She said proudly, a distant look upon her face. Then she snaps back. 'So those are your potential-pup parents.'
