What if all that you knew and loved was destroyed? Everything that you and built and care about taken away from you. Your hopes, your dreams, your family maybe even your life as well. The world was just yesterday a thriving world, full of cities and people of various cultures and beliefs. Kingdoms had risen and people who lived in the well take care of ones were content. But not all was bright and cheery in this world. There were those who wished to have all of the world under their thumb, or nobody would live at all.
The Kingdom of Veratis was one such kingdom. Their leader was cruel and tyrannical, who taxed his people into poverty and made regular examples of 'miscreants' so nobody would dare oppose him. The king Mellar was not content with his lot in life, even though he controlled a vast portion of land that nobody could easily take back. His soldiers were bloodthirsty, cruel and vicious. They killed men, women and children or took them for their own pleasure. Most of them were orcs but some were even humans.
One day King Mellar's forces came across an ancient tome, filled with vile magic. The book was made from the skin of human children and written with their blood. It was the book titled simply Ragnarok. The King, seeing a chance to increase his power through the arcane opened the tome and delved into its secrets. Little did he know that the book was intelligent and quickly took over the King's mind. It forced him to sacrifice his people to summon an ancient being of immense power. This being was a dragon from the pits of the abyss. Once freed, it took the book and reabsorbed it, making it fuse with him. Then the destruction began.
It erupted with massive power waves and destroyed the King's land first. It then proceeded to each and every village, city and capital it could find. Nobody was prepared for the devastation, and try as they might they could not win. So the dragon succeeded in destroying everything that had been build, leaving only ruins in its wake. Even the land itself trembled and was wrecked in large stretches. Evil creatures such as goblins and orcs raged across the land as the dragon left them alone. It settled into the old kingdom of Bellaris, the once main city of a beautiful and peaceful queen. But not all was dark and dismay, while life was destroyed in other places, in some it thrived. New life had sprouted and there were even survivors. Though these survivors were scattered and afraid.
But a chosen one has awakened and it will be through this person that the dreaded dragon Ragnarok will be slain, such as it is said in prophecy. So my child, are you ready to rise to the challenge? Are you ready to become the one that is needed to save us all?
