The sun was high in the air as Araceli finished her dance. She had been practicing in the park since breakfast. There wasn't much to do in Mato Town. It was a pretty nice place for trainers starting their journey, but for an experienced trainer like Araceli it was absolutely boring. She wanted to get the gym badge and move on, but she was concerned for her pokemon. Araceli glanced at her audience. Abrielle, the raltsiard, stood up and began clapping furiously while Neriah, the petilwick, continued to doze in the sunlight. The two could probably take on the gym leader, but Araceli wasn't willing to take that risk. Who knows what it would be like having a fusion with conflicting natures fight. Araceli sighed and started another dance. "Maybe something will happen at the lab or something," she thought.

Claire had wandered to the town park almost immediately after arriving in Elovve. The situation was getting overwhelming. Things Dad had always handled before, like where to go first, future itinerary, and (the biggest) the budget were now firmly in Claire's hands.
Claire sank down onto a bench with a sigh. This was going to be harder then she thought.
A person dancing caught Claire's eye. Struck at the elegance of the dance, Claire watched for a while, and started to applaud when the stranger finished.

Abrielle had noticed the new arrival first. She picked up Neriah, who didn't bother to wake up, and started to walk to Araceli. She was half way there when Araceli heard the applause. Araceli turned around to see Claire.
"Oh, I didn't know anyone else was out here." She said while taking a step towards Claire. "I don't think I've seen a trainer since the introduction meeting."
Abrielle followed close behind Araceli. This person didn't seem to be a threat, but you could never be too sure.
Araceli stopped in front of Claire's bench. "I'm Araceli, nice to meet you." She stuck out a hand.

"Hello, Araceli! I'm Claire, nice to meet you," Claire said with a smile, shaking the dancer's hand. "I'm actually not a trainer yet. I'm assuming I'll get a pokemon of my own here, though."
"And I only just got here an hour or two ago. Well, to Elovee I mean," Claire continued. "I've been sitting here for maybe a half hour."
Claire blinked at Araceli's pokemon a few times, then said, "Well! Those pokemon sure are unusual! Is that part of Elovee's big secret?"

"I guess they're doing the new arrivals in waves." Araceli shrugged. She looked to her pokemon. "Oh yeah. I guess so. Someone explained the project to me before I arrived. I forgot that its not really advertised." Araceli picked up Abrielle and Neriah. "These are my fusions. Abrielle is a Ralts/Pawniard and Neriah is a Petilil/Litwick. They've been taking genes from two pokemon to make a new hybrid." After the introduction she set her pokemon down. "Aside from that it seems like a normal region."

"Fusions, huh?" Claire said, looking back to Araceli. "Wow, a Ralts and a Pawniard are pretty different. Well, Petilil and Litwick too. I wonder which types they decide to keep when the fusion happens." Claire smiled nostalgically, looking back to the pokemon. "I used to think that breeding did this sort of thing when I was little. Like, if you put two different pokemon into the day care, you'd get out something that was both at once! So they're products of science, then?" She sighed and shook her head. "Amazing."

"So you don't think this is kind of weird?" Araceli started to rub the back of her neck. "I mean like you said, these fusions are pretty different." After being put back down Abrielle picked up Neriah again. The petilwick was more or less awake by now, but didn't really care about what was going on.

"Hmmm... Well I think I glimpsed a fusion at the lab when the professor welcomed me here. So I've had time to digest the idea," Claire said. "I am impressed that science can do things like this." Claire looked at her feet and fidgeted. "I'm a lot more worried about traveling on my own. Managing a budget intimidates me. I'm already mostly at a loss of what to do after I get my pokemon." Claire sighed, shaking her head..

"Well that's not a big problem. They have gyms here, just do the league challenge." Araceli put her hands on her hips. "I'm talking about how they are making pokemon. Like don't you think its an affront to Arceus?" Araceli smacked her head, "Or like how they're doing it. I never thought of it before but what are these pokemon made out of?"

"An affront to Arceus?" Claire tilted her head. "I'm not religious. And if it's scientifically possible, maybe Arceus, like, doesn't mind. If it did mind, it would make the experiments fail I think." Claire squinted at the two fusions. "I would hope they get the material form something like organ donors or scientifically available samples."

"Yeah, but they don't disclose any information. Also how do they make their decisions when it comes to which pokemon to fuse?" Araceli grabbed one of her arms behind her back. "I just want to make sure that the pokemon are safe. Even if making fusions is ok, some are dangerous." She reached down to pick up Neriah. "I mean Neriah is a fusion of two drastically different pokemon. She's grass/fire type, but she still has ghost abilities that affect her. If she was ghost type maybe she could handle it..." Araceli hugged Neriah close. Abrielle walked up to her trainer and hugged her leg in an attempt to comfort her.

Claire put up her hands and took a deep breath. "This is speculation. I know I'm going to chalk it up to donors. As for what pokemon to fuse... Let's go with curiosity. Or something along those lines. I don't want to get panicked over guessing." Claire put her hands down and smiled at her new friend. "Anyway, it's getting on towards lunch time. Do you have any suggestions for places to eat?"
