I have the idea to write a story using words that I randomly decide to learn each day. I try to learn a few new words each week. The definitions don't always stick with me, but the words themselves typically do, and I can always look them up a second or third time until they gel. I'm going to post words I am learning here and then craft a story with them, and I invite you to post words that are new or interesting to you. (please include a definition) I'd like to keep the story PG, so nothing sexually explicit or horrendously violent, please. Hopefully we can all expand our vocabulary in a fun way. 3nodding

Bifurcate: verb: to divide into two parts transitive verb: to cause to divide into two branches or parts intransitive verb: to divide into two branches or parts
I was sweeping the kitchen floor, thinking about the crumbs and how I wanted to get them up, and this word randomly popped into my head. I have no idea why. It was not related to what I was doing or thinking, it was just there.

This is a neat thread, and edumacational! I'd like to see it continue, so I'll add to the story and then maybe add a word too?
Plenty of things are "bifurcated", I'm sure, but you never really think about them. Twins, for example. And trees. My clarinet is bifurcated, it splits apart but it also comes back together. Things that are separate might not have meant to be. The most bifurcated setting I can think of is an antique store, items split from context, split from parts lost down vents or into the mouths of toddlers or maybe just into the air itself. Even the clerks seem aloof, split from the reality of a useless business(in the grand scheme, of course). Maybe this is why I like to go there. Maybe I'm looking for some other half of something.
Woodnote: noun: A wild or natural musical tone, as that of a forest bird.

Thaaaaaaaank ~ you! I do appreciate the addition, and the resurrection! xd Now I will get back to business myself. biggrin
This one lends itself to storytelling, at least the kinds of stories I tend to tell:
Cacodemonomania :: The pathological belief that one is inhabited by an evil spirit.
And one more, because I got lazy, and I just like the sound of it:
Quockerwodger :: A rare nineteenth-century word for a wooden toy which briefly became a political insult.

I'm actually a little confused. Are we writing a story in the thread with the words?

Jeevas Crow I'm actually a little confused. Are we writing a story in the thread with the words? Oooohhh.... I think I see where you're coming from. cat_xd (and correct me if I am wrong) If I am right, that was not my original intent but I surely like the idea! And your post makes a whole lot more sense to me. I thought you were stream-of-consciousness talking there...
So, was your perception that we take the previously posted word, write a short story with it, then post a new word for someone else to use in a new short story? If so, tell me and I'll add that to the OP, then go back and write a story. Lulz.

Oh, yes! That's how I thought the thread worked. I guess I misinterpreted you. ^^" You can do that if you like, but you don't have to just for my sake. ~
