The Suspects!
The Detective watched the eight people in the next room as he went over what he knew about them VS their statements.
Madame Camilla -was Mr. Dock's psychic adviser. She was privy to all information on the import/export business and several personal matters. Digging into her past, the Detective found that Camilla was arrested a dozen times for theft and fraud. In fact, he noted that the pearls currently about her neck looked out of place with the rest of her outfit.
Her statements:
"Oh! I told my dear, dear Mr. Dock that death would find him! So many fiends in his home all after his money!"
"I was in deep meditation when Mr. Verdant busted down my door screaming murder!"
"When I saw the body, I just knew he was murdered by one of the others out of spite! His will left everything to me!"
"Personally, I warned him about that little hussy Rouge!"
A con artist with a theft background- did Madame Camilla make her predictions come true?
Mr. Verdant -an insurance salesman who befriended Mr. Dock at a charity three years ago. While there are no arrests in his background there were several complaints against him from co-workers ranging from stalking to threats. And, the Detective noted, the mysterious disappearance of his old partner, Edward Hale. Verdant stated that he "ran off" with some woman he met at a club. No one has seen him since.
His statements:
"I couldn't sleep, so I decided to pop in the kitchen for a snack. When I came around the corner, I noticed that Phin's study light was still on...and that's when I found my dear friend!"
"Of course I was screaming murder! One of these villains killed my best friend!"
"He had a will? Interesting. I imagine that the murderer was jealous about how little he or she was left?"
"I think Jenner found out that Phin wasn't going to leave his sister a cent! Think it was him?"
A high tempered man with a missing partner- did Mr. Verdant feel angered by Mr. Dock's will?
Lady Cobalt -her deceased husband was Mr. Dock's business partner. A safari enthusiast and world wide treasure hunter, Lady Cobalt had been draining her husbands funds dry. Interestingly, a week after Lord Cobalt cut funds to his wife's museum he was killed by an unidentified driver while on his morning jog. Lady Cobalt was left very little from her husband death, but Mr. Dock generously financed all her endeavors.
Her statements:
"I was sleeping when Mr. Verdant informed me of what happened! Who would do this to such a generous man?!"
"I think the other women were jealous of my closeness to Phin...and the fact that I'm a
proper lady."
"That fake Camilla was always poking around in Phin's study. Perhaps she found something in there that she didn't like?"
"Oh, well,
everyone knew about Phin's will. Maybe the murderer was upset that everything was going to my museum?"
Suspicious deaths surround this proper Lady- did she find out she wasn't getting the money?
Miss Blanc -was Mr. Dock's devoted maid for the last six years. Oddly enough, the Detective noted that in the last six years Mr. Dock has been burglarized ten times...with no crimes before. Coincidence?
Her statements:
"I fainted instantly when I saw poor Mr. Dock's body! These awful people! I just knew something would happen with all of them here!"
"I guess I just assumed he had a will. I've been so loyal to him...I wonder if I was in it?"
"I'm the only one who has never borrowed money from Mr. Dock. All the others are just vultures!"
"See that interesting clip in Lady Cobalt's hair? Mr. Dock placed that in his safe two days ago!"
A domestic with a possible theft past- did she find out that Mr. Dock was not going to be loyal to her in his will?
Doctor Primrose -was Mr. Dock's personal physician for the last five years. During a background check, the Detective found that Primrose and another doctor by the name of Williams were being investigated for several mysterious deaths of patients under their care. Williams was to testify to various incidents that he had seen, but before he could...he vanished. Lack of any evidence cleared Primrose.
His statements:
"I was reading a particularly engaging book on whales when Mr. Verdant busted in my room. Do you know I have always enjoyed sea life?"
"Mr. Dock was always in peak condition. I was more his friend than his doctor."
"A will, eh? Perhaps he was leaving me enough to start my own scuba diving business."
"Mr. Verdant has quite the temper, doesn't he?"
A doctor that would rather be in the sea- did Mr. Dock cross him the same way that his old patients did?
Jenner -was Mr. Dock's butler for ten years. No criminal record and nothing in his background check. The only family he had was an ill sister whose medical bills were being paid for by Jenner. Where would he get that kind of money?
His statements:
"Mr. Dock was always too trusting."
"The murderer was most likely enraged because everything was left to my sister."
"Two days ago I saw Mr. Yellojacket arguing with Mr. Dock. He would do anything for a drink."
"I find Miss Blanc to be a charming woman, the other three are not. Spreading rumors about the girl...how distasteful."
A butler and his ill sister- did Jenner find out he wasn't getting a proper cut?
Miss Rouge -a lovely ex-starlet with three deceased husbands. Each one died under "accidental" circumstances. Husband one was elderly, hit a loose floor board, and tumbled down the stairs. Husband two, a director who cut her from one of his films, choked on a chicken bone. And husband number three, a fellow actor, lost consciousness behind the wheel of his car. She had known Mr. Dock only six months and somehow managed to gain quite a bit of his confidence.
Her statements:
"Oh, my poor, darling Phinie! How I wish I could have just one more kiss!"
"That Miss Blanc is nothing but a rotten thief!"
"I have such bad luck with husbands! And look! Now I have bad luck with potential husbands!"
"Jealous? Well, of course everyone is jealous of me! Phinie only cared about my happiness!"
An ex-starlet turned black widow- did her act cause Mr. Dock to reveal something she didn't like?
Mr. Yellojacket -was Mr. Dock's gardener for the past four years. His background check revealed charges of theft, fraud, with several drunk and disorderly in public.
His statements:
"I also box up those artifacts and such at the exportin' business."
"Do ya know when the will readin' is?"
"I drink some...but I still gets the job done. Mr. Dock would yell a bit 'bout my workin' like that."
"I've seen Primrose lookin' all 'bout in Mr. Dock's study. Not much of a doctor, huh?"
