The Boy Prophet - Hey, yeah! Great to see y'all in my classroom. I don't want you to think I'm a scary teacher, I'm a cool teacher. You can ask me anything! Anyway, this first year we're gonna be covering Merlin's life story. Yeah, I know, real exciting stuff. We won't cover too much today, but be prepared to take notes in the coming weeks, hoo boy.
Anyway, there are plenty of variations of the legend, but we're going with the best-known one: Historia regum Britanniae, or History of the Kings of Britain, written by good old George of Monmouth. Merlin was born in the village of Carmathen, and he was rumored to be the spawn of a demon and a nun. Yeah, I know, two opposing forces, how'd they get together? Well, opposites attract so I guess that's really how they made it all work. Sheesh, imagine the first date though.
Anyway, Merlin was basically shunned all his life because people thought he was some freakish hybrid of a demon (or was it an incubus? meh) and a mortal woman. Might have spent a bunch of his childhood with a dude in a forest.
Anyway, at some point Merlin's mom and pop either died or left him, so he was alone with all these weird-a** powers because, you know, being born from two opposing forces and all. It seemed that he was going to be the outcast forever, and that nothing interesting was going to happen, so that has to be where our tale ends, right? Ha ha ha WRONG! Because this jerk with a red-dragon flag named VORTIGERN came to town and--
