Jobs are difficult. They sometimes don't follow through with our expectations. Don't be alarmed, just keep putting your foot through the door. Maybe it is just God's way of saying, "You don't want to be here." Hold your head up hun. Keep Trying. Even though it hurts to be let go, remember at the end of the day, you gave it your all. Look for a job that is going to appreciate you for you and not just think of the company. I remember how long it has taken me to get the current job I have. Don't be discouraged. Keep handing out Resumes and put your smile back on. There is a job out there for you despite your age.
Here is some advice the Employment Services gave me:
1. Ask questions! Ask them about how their team works, what they are looking for in an Employee? What expectations does the job involve? Remember, you are seeing if you want the job just as much as they are seeing if you fit the criteria.
2. Don't say it is something new to learn. Employers explained that this expresses that they need a lot of training and therefore may not hire you for that reason.
3. Look around at the Employees faces if you can. Do they seem miserable? Do they seem Tired? Is the workplace really dirty? This could mean that the job environment may not be properly managed.
4. Ensure that you have the evidence to support that you have the special qualifications that they are looking for. Such as: Food Handlers Certificate, CPR and First Aid Certificates. They may not ask them for them in the interview, but some hire right on the spot and may ask for them.
5. Bring your references and an extra copy of your resume to all interviews. They may ask for them.
6. Remember to make eye contact. Speak to them. Say hello with a strong handshake. Not painful, but firm. This expresses that you are here to do business and have confidence.
7. Hard questions can be challenging. Don't be afraid to ask for a second to formulate the right response. Take your time, but remember they have stuff to do as a manager. Sometimes the best interview is not done in 15 seconds. Very Good Advice Luck. Numbers 4 to 7 I do all of the time.
Number 1 I need to work on.
Number 2 - I made that mistake at the interview for the job that I lost. I expressed that I was excited about learning something new and that I have experience but it was from 12 years ago. In other words I indicated that I would need a lot of training. In the end I believe that is why I was let go. It takes me longer than the average person to learn a new job. Especially one as complex as this one.
Number 3 - I have to make sure that I get a tour of the place during the interview and not after. My last job I got the plant tour after I got the job and it was rushed. I have great attention to detail and can read people pretty well. I will certainly use those skills next time. Also the physical atmosphere of the place is important. I pass on jobs that are too hot (90 degrees on a cool day) or one that has too many irritants in the air. I have a lot of different allergies.
Thanks for the encouragement it is much appreciated. When motivated like when I'm doing Cosplay Photography I can be very charismatic. My charm or my seriousness is what people will see when I start a job. Being serious comes first. Then when I know the job well I show my co-workers my "real" self which is charming, polite, and easy going. After a short time I can become very popular which is nice.
As for the next job I may have to try a different field. Starting in another field will bring me even less money to start with but the potential joy that it could bring could make the difference in the long run.
A very long time ago I worked at Meijers in the Toy Department. Meijers is similar to Wall Mart or most other family friendly large retail stores. Meijers is a special store chain the midwest that treats their people with respect which means a lot. I worked in the toy department of one of their stores for 6 months and that meant working with kids, teens, and parents.
I was a pretty good sales person. My great people skills helped me to help a customer no matter who they were. I loved working with kids. I could see the glee in their eyes when I led them to the toys that they wanted most.
Teens I could talk on their level and talk with them in detail about the different toys. Being well versed in Anime, Disney, Barbie, and Card games like Yu-Gi-Oh! and Pokemon can go a long way. My 15 year old niece is my Pokemon expert and I have thousands of Yu-Gi-Oh! cards. You should see the playable decks that I can create.
As for parents I can help them a lot. Sometimes I see one that has a puzzled look on their face and I ask them if I can help them. After a few basic questions I usually can lead them to a few toys that would work nicely with their child. My pay was low but I truly enjoyed going to work every day. I still shop at Meijers a lot and can feel the magic in the stores and see the friendly and happy faces of the people that work their.
Luck please pray for me and I do know that God will help me. A path is always their for me to follow and I never know where it can lead but I do trust that it will lead me to both interesting and rewarding places. I truly believe that when I do my part to get a job or anything else then God will do his part. Some say leave it all to God. That's not fair, God is very busy working with people all over the planet and doesn't have the time to do everything for you. I know that their is another job out their. My priest says that their is always more to life. Something to think about.
