xxxx • Appearance : Kokunai stands a tall 6'3", he is considered a bit thin but his built is quite athletic and he is in exquisite shape. His body is very proportional having exceptional muscle tone and size throughout. It is quite obvious he trains often due to the toned nature of his body and he is often wearing cloths that are slightly torn due from just coming from a training session. He has a tattoo on each wrist that runs from base of his hands up to his mid forearm. The tattoos are something he had when he was part of the world of the living and he decided to hold on to them for good memory. He has messy black hair and fiery golden eyes that due to their lighter color appear to smolder whenever light hits them. His outfit is an unorthodox one preferring a hybridization of shinigami garb and his clothes from the world of the living. He doesn't even wear the captains Haori instead having the squad one symbol on a card that is tucked into the side of his hat signifying his rank and squad to all others. Kokunai wears a white button up shirt where the top button is never buttoned, suspenders clipped into black pants with black slip on loafers to match. Kokunai also has a very unique hat which always sits atop his head causing his hair to spike out in that back due to it trying to escape. He is never seen without it and it always remains on his head firmly held in place by his rebellious mop of black hair. Kokunai will also tuck in a joint of his while talking to prevent from blowing smoke in the face of those he speaks with. Kokunai does smoke, it is the one thing he habitually carried from his past life. He went to squad 12 upon reaching officer and had an odorless tobacco substitute designed which he hand rolls himself. The smoke has no taste or odor and does not provide any chemical when inhaled just the feeling of smoking. His zanpakuto is a nodachi and as such is always seen on his back with the hilt over his left shoulder indicating to all which hand he prefers to fight with.
xxxx • Personality : Kokunai Fuwa means internal friction and that pretty much sums up Kokunais personality. He is internally conflicted about a great number of things and to those who know him very well will be able to sense when those things are troubling him and on his mind. He is rather good at suppressing them and often is able to have deep internal thought while maintaining a conversation with someone else. He has a rather playful disposition when around others preferring to keep his mind as distracted as possible and will seek out the company of anyone as fast as possible when he finds himself alone and remembering his past. The most common source of his internal friction is from his life in the human world which because of those great many mistakes Kokunai became a shinigami gaining a new desire to aid and protect hoping to make amends for his shortcomings while alive. Kokunai loves swordplay and the moment he came to the sereitei stumbled upon it and began to devote himself to it. Swordplay was such an intricate discipline that Kokunai found himself able to clear his mind while doing it and it was because of this fact that he excelled so much in it and sought out the position of squad one captain. He loves sword fighting and will take any chance he can get to practice training with soldiers and captains alike. Kokunai very rarely refuses any opportunity to spar. Kokunai trains with all types of swords to prevent from having any deficiencies and will also seek out comrades who have odd lengths or weapons to train against meticulously trying to become the greatest swordsman in all of sereitei. It is this devote training that Kokunai is given the appearance of a leader but his motivation is far less noble. His playful disposition will especially present when around females. Flirting is something Kokunai could not resist doing when in the world of the living and it carries over to his new lives in the sereitei. He enjoys very few things more than flirting and has been considered a perv by some but only those who know him well as he remains respectful around women until they show interest first.
xxxx • Biography : Kokunai was born into a middle class home in Florida and had a very average childhood until the age of six. He does not know his name from when he was in the world of the living as when he died he tried to put that life behind him. He fell in love with music and got a guitar by the age of six. By the age of ten he was incredibly advanced for his age and was playing in a high school band. Naturally being this young and hanging out with juniors and seniors Kokunai was extremely malleable at the time and got into smoking and cocaine due to just being easily persuaded by peer pressure.
By the age of 14 Kokunai was addicted to cocaine and smoked multiple cigarettes every day. Though it didn't really matter to him as their music was beginning to take off and Kokunai was becoming quite famous. He dropped out of school a year later and began playing with the band full time investing his full attention and time into music to become truly amazing. Within two years their band began touring the nation and Kokunai was making more money than he dreamed. Though is seemed the more famous they became the more lost Kokunai got. He began to do drugs more often and find endless amounts of women just because he could. His bandmates encouraged this behavior only furthering the selfish desires Kokunai had turning the initially kind person into an empty shell.
Kokunai began to hate himself whenever his life would cool down and his family could see this internal turmoil and because of it began to travel with him. His mother, father, and two brothers dropped their lives and began to tour with Kokunai to hopefully provide stability and prevent his drug problem. Initially it helped. With Kokunais family there he was able to cut down on his drug usage by a very significant level and began once again focusing on his music. Things finally seemed to be taking a turn for the better.
This continued for three years and Kokunai had been drug free for two. His bandmates weren't the best influence but with his family there he seemed to finally begin to find balance in his life learning when he could afford to party and get girls. This all changed when a woman came into Kokunais life. She was unlike any woman Kokunai had ever met and the first woman for Kokunai to fall in love with. Though the womans affection was just a ruse used to get famous. She got Kokunai back into drugs and began isolating him from his family as much as possible. Within weeks all the work his family had put in was lost and Kokunai was right back to where he started.
One night his new found love had gotten him particularly wasted and drunk, luckily his brother had come and brought him back to the suite his family was staying in. They laid him down and went to sleep. Kokunai woke up an hour later and wanted a smoke, though he was so drunk that instead of lighting a cigarette he managed to light his bed on fire and within minutes the entire suite caught flames. Kokunai was too drunk to help anyone and just sat and watched as he and his whole family burned that night.
Kokunai awoke what seemed instantly in the districts of the sereitei wearing the clothes he died in and refusing to tell anyone his name. He was so disgusted with himself that he allowed himself to just wallow in self pity for an unknown amount of time. It was because of this he was given his name Kokunai Fuwa. One of the elders in the area spoke to him about what was an apparent problem plaguing him. Kokunai accepted his new name too disgusted with himself to keep his old one. A few months later he came across a dojo where people were learning the basics of swordplay. Kokunai on a whim entered and watched not having anything better to do with his new found existence. After watching for a few days Kokunai began to see the dedication and discipline it took to become skilled in swordplay. Seeing the dedication and drive seemed to reignite the spark within him, the same spark he had when he began playing guitar.
Hoping to chase that initial feeling Kokunai had he enrolled in the dojo the next day and began to spend all day everyday practicing. He found himself able to forget about his past the more he trained and began to once again feel a heavy desire to excel in what he was doing. After doing this for some long people of time the master suggested if he truly wish to become a great swordsman to enroll and become a shinigami. Kokunai knowing he had nothing else to do and felt no purpose when doing anything else. He was accepted and began his journey.
He focused almost exclusively on sword play devoting minimal time to kido and none to hand to hand combat. After graduating he enrolled in squad one and began slowly climbing the ranks and after a long arduous journey has just become captain of squad one. Though Kokunai had grown he is still plagued by his past and is doing everything possible to move on and or forget the terrible mistakes he had made.

xxxx • Inner World Appearance : Kokunais inner world is a bleak looking desert where it is always sunset (or sunrise, no one knows) and the world is littered with an infinite number of bloody swords of all different shapes and sizes.
xxxx • Spirit Appearance : Kokunai has never seen his zanpakuto spirit. Whenever he goes into his inner world he simply hears the voices of his family speaking to him, though in whispers and all speaking in unison. He does not know what his spirit looks like and assumes its voice is actually something different than what Kokunai hears but cannot explain why it is he hears that.
xxxx • Sealed Appearance : Click Kokunai's zanpakuto looks rather feminine to put it subtly. It has a purple and white hilt with a purple sheath to match. The tip of the hilt has a string with a feather tip of some kind at the end which dangles back and forth. Despite its feminine appearance Kokunai loves his blade as it reminds him thoroughly of his younger sister and he is almost never seen without it.

xxxx • Instant Effect : Upon saying the release phrase Kokunai will swing his blade and as he does a shockwave will erupt out capable of knocking back lower ranked foes and staggering all those making it a good defense measure when an attack is incoming. The shockwave will erupt out roughly twenty yards before dissipating.
xxxx • Passive Ability : Kokunai's Speed is doubled making his natural dashing techniques (those without shunpo) unmatched unless by those who also are granted this ability through a release.

xxxx • Restrict: This is the only known technique in Kokunais shikai and is all he really needs. Upon entering shikai an invisible bubble of sorts will form around Kokunai. This bubble is completely undetectable and forms a sphere with a radius of ten feet. Anyone that enters within the ten foot radius of Kokunai will not be able to use kido based attack. Meaning if Kokunai is able to keep his opponent within ten feet of himself at all times the opponent will basically be reduced to fighting with just physical measures.
Limitations:
*This only extends ten feet from Kokunai meaning anyone outside of this ten foot radius will be able to use any kido related ability and it will be able to enter inside the radius with no issue and perform its intended attack without hindrance. So long range kido attacks will in no way be impeded by this so long as they are cast outside the ten foot radius.
*Releasing within the radius is allowed but any sort of kido based attacks during the release will not occur.
*This effect does extend to Kokunai meaning that once he enters shikai he will not be able to cast kido.
*Dashing techniques are able to be performed by both the opponent and Kokunai.
