I've done a few reenactments. One of 14th century Spain and the other of revolutionary war America (rebels). One of these days (I.E. When I get a job) I'll be joining a World War I one With the Russian side.
Which do you do again?

Buckskinning and frontier stuff. Like Last of the Mohicans. I just made a nice fire with flint and steel this afternoon. I'm soooo proud of myself.

How old are ya? Technically it's not RPing.... It's an actuall representaion of how people lived way back when. I don't actually hunt but I want to someday.... I'm 17 in may incase you were wondering. I learned how to make a fire with flint and steel after alot of trial and eeror and help from some "masters" of the trade. They can do it in like 13 seconds.

What exactly does reenact mean to you? Here in sweden it's quite different from larps. they use reel weapons and also there are nothing else than fighting. They just line up and sees who win. Although they seem to be very careful about time periods for the clothing and weapons. I don't get the fun in it... i like to be in character, act and really live in the surroundings of an ancient time. They really do nothing else but fight!

I don't get the fun in it... i like to be in character, act and really live in the surroundings of an ancient time. They really do nothing else but fight! There's a couple of different types of reenactors over here. There's the War reenactors and there are civilian reenactors and there are Sutler Reenactors (such as shop owners and stuff) and then there's the frontiersmen reenactors who don't fight really. They more go into competitions of trading and survival and hunting skills. There are alot of fun competitions though. But that's not really why I'm in it. I like to live as they did and sleep outdoors and talk to friends over a campfire. I like the sense of community that there is a a frontier reenactment (this is a widely common feeling torwards our hobby) and how if something goes wrong ya'll stick together and help eachother out. Stuff like that is what it means to reenact for me.

That does sound more like our larps than your larps does ^_^'. I too really love the that life. If you look in the pictures thread you can see a house that i lived in once this winter. It was so wonderful to really have a house to take care of at a larp and I spent most of the larp on doing that or being at the inn. Our larps are much more about intriguing and living the life of the time than yours i think. I've never been in a fight and i've been active for years. I've seen about three. I really enjoyed taking care of the fire, preparing food, cleaning and decorting the house. It so much more fun to have that sort of a building than a tent. I think the house was made in 14th century style.
I totally get your love for reenacting, I probably would be one if there was any that didn't just fight here too. But i still have love for fantasy. And larps here are pretty much about surviving and living in the woods sense nothing modern is allowed to be seen in the whole area. We do not hunt though. I think that would be illegal?? I love the role playing in larp. Do you not role play at all?

When I reenacted I LARPed. It wasn't boffer, but I did choose a role. I chose a character and I played him. My name was Travis McCullum. I was a 17 year old revolutionist. I also enjoyed stitting arround the fire with friends talking about weaponry. A lot of it was Role Playing about the war, but that was ok. I like history enough. I liked talking with our swordsmith on sword styles. He even taught me a few things. (live blades)
I can see why you like the Fronteer life reenactments. Hunting, fishing, camping...I like all those activities anyway.
Out of curiosity, where are these fronteer reenactments. I've only ever heard of the wartime ones.
Another question, Are there underlieing sexist sentaments. I remember there being some of those when I tried. Are women expected to act like women in that time? Or can they act like men with the best of them?
What time period do you "live in"? I realize it's fronteer life, but that era in history was a long one.
