xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Roslynn opened the door of her new dorm room, somewhat annoyed she had been moved from her single last year to a double. Dropping all of her stuff on the far bed, she checked to see if the window would open - hers last year didn't for a good two months. The glass easily swung open, and Rose sat down on the ledge, swinging her legs out into the warm night air and looking around. The grass, almost black in the moonlight, was a good two stories below her Converse. As she observed, she could just barely make out two figures in the courtyard, one in a long white coat. Probably the new nurse. She rolled her eyes, thinking of how almost all of last year's teachers had been replaced. After a few more minutes of mindless gazing, she decided it was time to do what she came to do, unpack.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx After moving all of her stuff to the other bed, she grabbed the bag holding her bed stuff and got to work, changing the plain sheets to her own newspaper-looking ones. Still seeing no signs of her roommate, Rose pushed her bed against the wall so that the window was centered above her bed. If her roommate had wanted the window, she should've gotten here earlier. Granted, her roommate might not even be marked yet, but that's just a technicality. She finished making her bed, leaning her many pillows against the plain black headboard. Luckily, the window was just high enough she didn't have to worry about her pillows or herself falling out. Taking a short break simply to enjoy the weather through her window, Rose watched a small shape running across the roof of the infirmary. The shape, which she now saw was a small calico cat, chased after a bird whose wing seemed to be injured. It took the kitten about five minutes, but it caught the bird and Rose averted her attention as it made a toy out of the other creature.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Leaving the window, Rose put all of her clothes away in the dresser closest to her bed before shoving the suitcase in the bottom drawer. After lining all her shoes up against the wall, she began decorating, starting with a short string of Christmas lights from the foot of her bed, to the top of the window frame, and back down to behind the headboard. Posters and pictures went up next, nicely framing the window and covering most of the wall. She moved the nightstand over behind her headboard, plugging in a powerstrip near it to plug up her lamp and phone. After another thirty minutes of getting settled in, Rose cleaned up and went back to sitting on the windowsill, pulling off her red flannel and leaving it on her bed, so she was only in her black Jack Daniels tank top and shorts. She checked the time on her phone. 12:02 am. Three hours left in the night before the sun rose. Before relaxing, Rose checked to make sure the curtain, was, in fact a complete blackout curtain. It was, so she grabbed a cigarette out of the pack on her nightstand, along with her lighter, repositioned herself on the sill. She lit the cigarette, taking a long drag, and watched the world from her window, letting the breeze carry the smoke and its smell away from her room.
