Name: Toffee Woof Alias: Fee Age: 9 Gender: Female Powers: Electrokinesis Aura:Blueish Purple, low frequency, Orange as Secondary color
Appearance: Short and petite, even for her age. Toffee is very skinny, she looks borderline malnutrition but otherwise seem healthy. Despite being raised by wolves, she walks perfectly fine on two legs. She is quick even with her skinny legs and little feet!
She has puffy, often dry ginger hair that looked like it would benefit from a proper wash and conditioning. Styling is not important to Toffee at all, so she just usually let her hair go wild. None of her clothes really fit her. She is often dressed in over sized sweaters which were given to her by staff of the campus. So campus clothes, or old sweaters that no one wants, will be what she's usually dressed in. Toffee doesn't like pants through, especially long ones. However, she does love long socks.
Toffee has large, shiny, curious green eyes. She is always smiling, even when she is by herself. Most of her upper adult incisors, and even the upper canines of her teeth had already grown out. Although she is missing a few in her lower teeth. Her teeth did not grow out as perfectly straight as one would hoped, but in overall, it is pretty neat for someone that doesn't have proper dental care.
---------------------------
Personality: Even for a psychic, Toffee is considered a weirdo. Having raised by wolves, Toffee doesn't talk and is socially inept. But it doesn't mean that she is mute. She does sometimes however, respond in soft grumbles and growls, as if communicating in wolf language. She has exceptional nonverbal communication skills, but learning a language will be very difficult for her.
Despite this though, Toffee is a carefree child, often delighting in the smallest of things. A mushroom she found growing at the base of a tree nearby, a grasshopper that she had caught, the feeling of rain drops on her hand. She doesn't get upset easily, and she doesn't care what other people think about her.
Because Toffee grew up as a wild child, she is more attune to nature. She prefers being outdoors than to be trapped behind four walls. She loves animals, and often find herself relating better to them than to other people.
Although she may seem daft to some, she is actually a really good and fast learner, if people were bothered enough to teach her things. Toffee is also a very independent little girl, despite her age. As growing up she was forced to take care of herself. Although in some situation, this seemed to seclude her from her other peers as well. She doesn't make friends easily, but if she does, she is fiercely loyal sometimes even to the point of blind faith.
Toffee is a little bit of a hoarder. Her favorite thing to hoard - candy. She loves anything sweet, and even after she had eaten the candy, she will keep the candy wrapper of candies she love. Like her namesake, toffee is her personal favorite! Before this when she was living in the wild, she used to collect rocks and pebbles that looks like animals.
Because she was raised by wolves, Toffee is a carnivorous eater. She loves meat, raw or cooked. (she seems to prefer the latter since it's easier to chew) However, she absolutely hates vegetables! Cabbage, kale, spinach, any type of leafy greens she would refuse to touch. Although she does love mushrooms, and would occasionally eat non-green vegetables like cauliflower and carrots.
---------------------------
History: Once upon a time, there live a pack of grey wolves in Murmuring Pines. Having been largely exposed to psitanium sprinkled throughout the woods after a prolonged period, these wolves had developed psychic abilities of their own too. (although nothing more than telepathy and increased intelligence really)
One day, while out hunting, Mama Woof found a young human baby crying near the edge of the forest. She sniffed the air, and smelled no other humans nearby, although she did detected a faint smell of blood. The baby was not wounded however, so she doesn't know where the blood was coming from. Having gave birth to a new litter of pups not too long ago, Mama Woof found herself feeling the need to care for this young human child, she cannot just turn a blind eye on her! So she picked the baby up as gently as she could and brought her home.
Unbeknownst to her however, was that the baby was a kidnapped child later abandoned in the forest when the kidnappers were on the run. Out there somewhere, there is a pair of distraught and heartbroken couple who lost their child.
Toffee is a feral child raised by wolves. Since she could remember, she had already been living with them in the woods, their den consists of a small mossy cavern near a stream. Their pack is about 20 wolves large, including Papa and Mama Woof, which are the leaders of the pack. The rest are mostly Toffee's wolf siblings, although a handful had been lone wolves that join the pack from time to time.
Even though she was raised by wolves, since at the age of four, when she had seen a reflection of herself in a quiet pond, she knew she was not a wolf. Nevetheless, instead of being devastated over the reality, she used her differences to her advantage for the pack. Instead of tracking preys by smell, she climb up high to scout for them. Instead of chasing down preys, she made simple traps such as digging a hole with spikes at the bottom to kill them. She made her fair share of contribution for the wolf pack, and the pack greeted it with enthusiasm, never discriminating her for being different. Every wolf had always considered her as family and an integral part of the pack, especially Mama Woof that constantly doted on her. She constantly slept with her siblings, huddled together to keep warm.
Around the age of seven, Toffee realized that she sometimes have a slightly tingly sensation on her finger tips, and if she rubbed her fingers hard enough it could also sometimes create little sparks. When she touched her arms with her fingers, the hair on it would stand up! It also affected the wolves' fur, which kind of annoys them. The feeling comes and go, and Toffee thought nothing of it as it did nothing more than just that, just an odd harmless trait, like the funny high pitch howl that one of her wolf sisters have.
One day, the forest was visited by a rare thunderstorm. Instead of cowering in fear from the roaring sound of thunder like some of her siblings, Toffee was immensely curious and fascinated by this phenomenon. The lightning flashing across the sky looked just like the spark from her fingers! Just... gigantic versions of it. So she started to follow the flashing of the lightning with her own little sparks, and also mimicking the sound of thunder with her own voice. She got more and more excited as the lightning storm intensified, as did the sparks on her fingers that got brighter and brighter. Then at the height of it all, she unintentionally released a bright zap of lightning that shot out of her hand, and hit the ground about 20 feet away.
This of course, alarmed the wolves greatly. Lightning was considered a power of nature, and now Toffee has it! Papa and Mama Woof defended her to no end, insisted that she stayed even when there were naysayers in the pack. It does not help that she has no control of her powers and was zapping wolves left and right by touch now. Currently, just one of her finger's touch could create enough electrostatics to make all the fur on their body stand up, which annoyed them to no end.
Toffee's newfound powers were disrupting the order of the pack. Until a lone wolf that had recently joined spoke up. He told of a human camp just a little ways away from their pack's territory, where the humans all exhibit strange powers like Toffee. Perhaps it is a good idea to send her there to at least learn to control it.
So that was what Papa and Mama Woof decided to do.

fee's personality is cute, first of all. a little strange, but she sounds cute.
however, her emotional abuse & neglect & mistreatment doesn't show through in her personality. being a child of a hoarder (COH - children of hoarders) is a pretty well documented thing and it's pretty easy to find people talking about their experiences. googling it turns up a lot of resources and information about children who grew up with a hoarder.
because this has been happening since she was young, she's going to have a warped world view of everything. everything is going to be framed by the abuse she suffered and the life she was forced to live; most people don't come out of that childish, naive, etc, because you learn to do what you have to to deflect the potential anger of the abusive parent. again, this is well documented and googling can find you resources.
was toffee born in a hospital? if so, the united states government knows about her and the us government is very, VERY serious about forced education. truancy is a BIG DEAL here, to the point where when i was an aide in the attendance office, an actual legitimate police officer would come in at least once a week for an hour or so and work on truancy letters. there are fines for parents who don't send their kids to school and even potential jail time. (for texas: https://www.texasattorneygeneral.gov/teens/crime/truancy.shtml ; each state has their own laws which are often easy enough to find with a google search for "truancy laws in [state]")
you mentioned in thread that you wanted cane to become emancipated. that's very difficult and is a legal process; he would have to go in front of a judge and demonstrate that he would be capable of caring for himself (i.e., paying rent, electricity, etc) while still going to school. he would also have to prove that he would be better off being emancipated than staying with his mother, which would involve revealing the depths of her abuse, neglect, and endangerment of her 2 children.
they don't generally let kids take care of kids either (it would've been hard enough for him to take care of himself while attending school, much less his younger sister!), so toffee likely would've gone into foster care at that point. it's possible that maybe, at 18, he could've arranged to take custody of her, but i doubt that they would have let an emancipated minor take care of a young child.
i know this is a lot so i'll stop it here! i hope this helps :>
She is adorable! Just wanted to point that out to start with.
Appearance To start with does she ever brush/wash her hair? Is it always down and out or does she sometimes try to tame it and put it in a ponytail or something of the sort? If she isn't wearing her brother's sweaters what other kind of things does she wear? Does she prefer pants, skirts, shorts, or something else? I'm curious to where she gets these clothing, did her mother use to at least buy her new clothing or is everything from her brother.
Maybe describe her face a little more. Does she have straight teeth, she is seven which is the age that most kids are missing a few so is she missing any ones in the front currently? What is her expression normally like, is she smiling or laughing with wide eyes mostly or does she normally have a more serious expression?
Personality Did Toffee ever read, or did Cane ever teach her anything? I know that you have her as a fast learned but I'm curious to how much education she actually has. Can she read, write, do basic math? I was wondering if he speech is different due to the lack of communication? Was she able to watch television or listen to the radio at home (just wondering since this would have helped her learn words) ?
You have her as carefree and not getting upset easily, are there certain things that do get her upset easily or is she carefree about everything? How would Toffee react to someone touching the things she hoards? Like if someone would take her candy, or throw away some of her candy wrappers would she get mad?
How did she learn about the dangers of the wild? Through observation, or did her brother teach her this? Is she often found covered in dirt from being outside much or does she still stay clean. You have that she rather be outside than inside, is there only so much amount of time she can handle being inside before she has to be outside or does she just go outside when she can?
Does she have any hobbies other than hoarding?
I'm wondering how she handles screaming/bullying? I don't know if her mom ever yelled at or bullied her, but now that she is going to be around other kids and she is strange how is she going to react to that? Is she gonna be the type to just ignore it, or does she freeze up or something else?
History Okay so Chen kinda pointed out what I was going to point out. I also have a few pointers to see if you could change some things without changing everything. You don't have to take them or anything, just putting them out there just in case.
Making Cane a little older would help things out a lot. I remember reading about a 19 year old girl who adopted her three younger siblings, and after a little googling I found that it does happen more than one would think. Even making him 18 so he is a legal adult would be helpful, just because like Chen said making him emancipated and be able to adopt his sister would be hard. However if he is out of school and has a secure job, it becomes much more possible.
As for the school issue it depends on what state they are in. I have family is Florida that were signed up as 'home schooled' and my aunt didn't teach them anything, they learned all they know from reading and doing things themselves and didn't really have the government checking up on them. Or she have done unschooling. There are ways to get around things, but if her mom never signed her up for one of those things or something than the government would most likely get involved. Also did Cane go to school? I feel like he would have taken his sister to school if he did, or maybe neither of them went and he was also "homeschooled/unschooled" and has been working since he was able to?
Something I wonder about is how does her mother pay for everything (the house, food, her alcohol, etc) ? Does she work, and what kind of job does she have if she does work? Does Toffee ever see her father? Or did he leave and never come back. Is he required to pay child support?
I was wondering if her mother even acknowledges her presence, or just kind of pretends that her kinds aren't there. You said that her mother blames the kids, how does she do this? Does she just say it's their fault or does she go further?
Where did Toffee go when she was kicked out of the house? Did she just wait outside? Was she able to take things with her? Why was Cane so calm about Toffee's abilities? I know he overheard people talking about physics, but did he ever see someone use their abilities or something? Or is just that kind of accepting person?
Like I said before all of my suggestions are just that, suggestions. Hope I helped you at least a little!

Thanks on this info!! I didn't knew about a documentary like that. However, I don't think the abuse on Toffee is as severe as it was on Cane. Toffee is still very very young, and I think most of the people they interviewed in those documentaries are adult-children, so I think the abuse applies better to Cane more than Toffee? Cane tries to protect Toffee whenever he can, because no one else will.
The fact that Toffee doesn't talk even at her current age could be one of the damages from the abuse from her mom. As she could have seen, in the simple interpretation of a child's brain, that unpleasant things come out from a person's mouth. (in this case, her mom's) So she refused to talk.

Again, Toffee is still very little! She's maybe just 1-2 years over her forced education age? She could just be one of the kids that fell through the cracks? XD Cane could have been in school till he couldn't, so he would have dropped out around the age of 15 or 16.

Thanks for this info, as I wasn't very clear on this before either. (my knowledge of this is just experience in watching law/legal/crime shows of the USA) I suppose I could change Toffee's age to 8, so Cane would have been 18 when they enrolled Toffee into the camp. So he could be Toffee's legal guardian. It is assumed that Cane is probably no longer studying (dropped out) and has a steady job by then. (will add the 'now' into the profile later)
Thanks for the crit though!! This leaves me a lot of things to consider about to strengthen her character!! *u*

i think it's really interesting how Toffee picked up hoarding herself. does she have her own collection/stockpile of things in that home? how does her collections of things stand out against her mother's? what does her brother think of her hoarding behavior?
what is her relationship with her brother? it's clear that he takes care of her like a parent would to an extent. does she realize this or does she not fully understand?
what memories does she have of her father? what is the neighborhood like where she lives? are their neighbor children that she can interacted with (or have some interaction with, even if she actively tries to ignore them)?
for her brother leaving, i doubt their mother would file a missing persons report. for any legal things, he could just use the address of their old house? it's not impossible to just leave, but i can see him trying to find ways to at the very least live in a different building as his mother. also wouldn't the older brother want Toffee to stay in school? in the US we have subsidized meal programs where children from families in need can get a free lunch and brunch snack. a lot of families rely on going to school in order for their children to be fed in the US.

I have edited her Appearance column in reflection of your questions! XD

Personality
Interesting questions!! I'm writing an extension of her personality to be included at the bottom. Maybe like an FAQ or something haha. But some of these, I think would be interesting to see them play out in RP instead of pre-selectively deciding her reaction in her personality post? It would really depends on the situation.
Quote:
History
I'll try to answer a few questions in the FAQ section as well, since I don't feel like adding to the History section (might become too long XD) But I might fix the history as I go along. :3
I feel like I should flesh out Cane's character too lmao although he's not really the main RP character hahaha.

i'm.. not sure if you've read a whole lot about emotional abuse in children but there are often definite ways that it manifests.
i'm not sure what you mean by the fact that it would be worse on cain than on toffee just because toffee is younger? do you mean that she would have internalised it less because she's suffered it less?
i can't really support language like that - comparing abuse and suffering - because that isn't a quantitative thing and i find, both in my own personal life and with other victims of various traumas, that minimising or comparing traumas only serves to hurt everyone involved.
they've both suffered - but certainly in different ways, of course. cane, for example, had formative years in which he was able to see a healthy relationship with parents; he knows what a mother/son relationship should look like, both through his previous relationship with his mother and with his schooling. he may miss this relationship, he may be more resentful, etc etc.
with toffee, as you have her, she has no other baseline. to her, this is normal, the way she is treated is normal, this is how All Parents Treat Their Kids. the ways she's learned to cope are probably, to her, how all kids learn to cope. all kids have parents who hoard and hate them and etc etc etc. it may, also, be how she assumes All Adults Anywhere Ever to be, depending on her interactions and experiences with adults outside of her mother.
other than cane, for example, how often does toffee have to try playing nice? how often does she interact with other adults where she has to interact in a calm, respectful manner? if it's not ever or not often enough to become a habit, how would she know things like playing nice etc? if her mother takes or moves her things with regularity, who taught and reinforced to her that it isn't acceptable to do these things to other people? sure, cane could have tried, but how effective would it have been in a setting like the one toffee grew up in?
i'm also not sure if you've done a whole lot of reading about child abuse so i went ahead and collected some stuff jic.
The abuse, especially incurred within the first three years of life, can affect a child's development and lead to attachment disorder, delayed development, erratic behavior and socialization problems, according to the paper.
also i'm really confused about her mother literally attacking someone with a kitchen knife? a kitchen knife is a deadly weapon and.. attacking someone with intent to injure or kill them is definitely a crime here! she would've been arrested and, probably, had both cane and toffee taken away as that is not a safe environment for children to grow up in.

i have to agree with chenabby. while domestic abuse *can* be an interesting background, it's not something I feel should be simplified as it is in your character's history. domestic abuse has serious consequences on people, and especially children who tend not to have developed proper ways to cope with the stress. both Cain and Toffee would have been effected by their mother's behavior.
even Toffee's hoarding isn't really hoarding, as she is willing to throw extras out. the OCD that triggers hoarding behavior is incredibly serious and shouldn't be downplayed even in a fantasy setting.

Just FYI~~~~ Toffee's hoarding is just hoarding, it's not compulsive hoarding like her mother's case.
Don't say I don't do research, I can only do so much research.
I'll get on the details of fixing the history when I have time. I'll be very busy the next week, with my other shop as well. So I'm not sure when I'll have time to fix her profile yet. If I don't by the time I leave for Nepal, (which I will be gone for almost 3 weeks) just take the profile or leave it lmao.

Hi Kyou!
Toffee is super cute and really shaping up, but we do have a couple of things we need clarified and double checked really quick!
First off, because Toffee was never socialized with humans, how does she understand spoken language? Her not knowing how to speak it isn't exactly an issue but considering she was literally raised by wolves from a baby it would make sense that she understands wolf language and not human, including body language.
We're not sure if this was on purpose, but how the lightning incident was written makes it seem like she was given electrokinesis because of the lightning. Could you make this clearer? As an addendum, the incident itself isn't necessary to jump start her powers, though you can keep it if you like! Considering Toffee was raised in an area with high psitanium concentration her entire life, it would make sense and be easy for her power to just build in reaction and begin appearing as the static discharge.
Can we know a little bit about her biological parents and why they chose to abandon her in the woods? Just a couple sentences would be fine.
"Her official name 'Toffee' was actually given by a staff member when they found a toffee candy wrapper on her." We ask that this not be included. Godmodding staff characters is comparable to people writing how Dr. Kyou found essences in their descriptions, which we know you are not fond of. However, we can absolutely have this be the origin of her name and discuss or roleplay it once she's accepted!
Because Toffee will have some difficulty learning and socializing, staff may assign a helper friend (perhaps another camper) to assist her with interpretation, playing, and learning in a safe environment. Instructor Sinclair will generally be watching over and helping her, otherwise. We can discuss if you would like a specific camper or student to help with her or if you are fine with staff assigning one. You may also set up a plot thread for this role once she's accepted as an easy way to generate RP!
Please let us know if we misunderstood anything and thank you for your patience!

Interesting note on her social abilities! Basically, it will be non-existent (at least with humans) from the beginning. But she's a fast learner, and I'm sure with some guidance from staff and a helper friend (very good idea!!) she will adapt quickly. I can ask around for other campers to see if they would be fine as her helper friend. (a staff as extra helper friend would be great too!)
On her biological parents, it was hinted that something happened to them in the woods, (the smell of blood) and Toffee might not actually be an abandoned baby. I'm considering leaving this option as a mystery at the current time. Possibility for a plot point for her later in life?
I did some changes on her power development, (and the effects of the lightning strike) hope it's better now!
Sorry about the assuming/roleplaying staff member part without permission aaaaahh--.... my bad!! I had thought about asking you guys for a possibility of a quick RP about the meeting with the wolves, before my trip! (my thoughts were more organized back then) But time did not permit anything and now that I'm back, I was scrambling a little bit to gather up all my ideas for Toffee together. In a rush to finish her profile, I just assumed... which was my mistake, sorry! I've removed that last paragraph, but still hope that we could do that quickie RP for their meeting!

Hi again Kyou!
Extremely sorry for the wait. Staff have been working on a lot of things, including finalizing some things for Toffee, that made us lag on a response. Luckily there's only a couple more things that hopefully are minor that need to be cleared up and then Toffee can be accepted, certed, and RP'd! Thanks for being patient!
First off, you give us a color for her main aura but not her secondary. Could you give us hex codes for both colors? We use them for certing and want to make sure we get the shades right.
Secondly, in her personality:
Quote:
She had been told that she was immensely talented with her psychic powers.
She hasn't had a chance to use her powers yet in camp so I'm not sure who would be telling her this. If it's about the staff at the camp then it is a little godmoddy to mention outright. If this mention could be cut and shown later through play that'd be perfect.
Next, in her history:
Quote:
One day, while out hunting, Mama Woof found a young human baby crying near the edge of the forest. She sniffed the air, and smelled no other humans nearby, although she did detected a faint smell of blood. The baby was not wounded however, so she doesn't know where the blood was coming from."
While the wolves and Toffee don't need to know where the blood is coming from or what happened to Toffee's parents, staff would like to know. Even just a brief sentence would be enough.
Lastly, Toffee's emission of static through her fingers is inaccurate, as all psychic powers are generated specifically from the brain. This and the incident with the tree being struck by lightning feels more like the gaining/intensifying of a super power than a psychic one. Does Toffee need to be put in danger like this or could she just develop her electrokinesis as general static discharge and the wolves still react the same way?
Thanks so much, once these are fixed up we'll get her certed ASAP!! I'm also reserving a spot for her in the same cabin as Juniper because it's about to fill up but it would be best that they bunk in the same cabin in case Toffee needs Juniper's help for anything at night (or Juniper can quickly take her to a member of staff in such case; ie, it's an easy means to facilitate roleplay!)

Fixed the hex codes. You can color pick it or something yeah? I used named webcolors. Just FYI, I didn't know the significance of the aura colors before this. If I had not read someone else's critique then I wouldn't know that the aura colors actually affect the cert design. It would be nice if you could have stated this somewhere more obvious. It's already difficult as it is to find out what aura colors mean what. (I know I had to go to the psychic powers page, but for those that doesn't know, won't know what to do with this)

Her profile had been changed so many times that sometimes small details like this escaped my attention. Especially with her personality if it's from a paragraph that I had not touched to match the wild child change of her profile.
I also added/changed paragraphs in the history which I had now highlighted in slate blue as per your request. So that you can see them clearer.

Just breezing through before heading to campus and I don't know if you already found it or not, but here is the aura information. More important than cert colors, auras tell a little about your character's true personality. The information is right inside the quest/profile "Regulations" thread (right in this subforum) where the forms are kept and it basically has a lot of other helpful links. I'll quote it for you just in case!
Yup I know, I did mentioned I know where to find the aura information right? Just because I was looking at the powers. And even then, the info on auras were pretty well hidden under spoilers. I'm just saying that since aura has it's own section for the character profile, and is actually important, it should have a thread/page of it's own to make things easier for newbies. And also to clarify on what it actually affects!
Why do you think I pick purple and orange as Toffee's aura colors?? Because I thought honestly the description of those two matches her best! Not because I thought purple, orange and green goes well together emotion_0A0
Sorry for nitpicking, I'm a stickler for user usability, since it's everything that I studied when I was in design school. MoM is a big enough shop with tons of information to digest. With crucial information hidden in other pages it just... it doesn't make sense to me XD;;
