Our tale today falls upon a familiar tale. Within the land of Wysterya, there lies a human kingdom, lead by a magnanimous King and his beautiful wife. Between them they have two princesses and a prince. For many years, peace has prospered thanks to the protection and brave efforts of Hero-Bloods, namely, humans that bear a unique blood-type, laced with bits of the Almighty One's power. Each Hero-Blood has accomplished great feats from saving a small village from famine using intelligent to slaving demons as powerful as gods. Which actually started up the trouble of this time around. The current demon king, Elbyrt, was slain by a Hero-Blood after 500 year territorial conflict with the humans.

Since then, very little has been heard of the Demons as they were forced to retreat from the outer lands and protect what remained of their society. That's where the new Demon King, Fenris, the youngest child of the late King Elbyrt, comes to light. Elbyrt had several spawn, about fifty total between the Demon Queen and the many women who caught his eye. But, unexpectedly or unsurprisingly, they all lie dead. Thanks to the actions of the humans, the many spawn of the King declared small, personal wars on humans.

As it was known that many Hero-Bloods now roamed the land, the spawns made a bet amongst themselves on who would take up the throne. The bounty was the head of any Hero-Blood. The stronger the blood, the greater the claim to the throne. This aggressive method lead them to their doom. Each underestimated the power of the Almighty One's blood, and were defeated.

In the end, young Fenris was left alone. Being too young, he wasn't expected to compete. He was content to let any of his siblings rule in their father's stead. Which was strange for a demon with royal blood, but not so unbecoming of one striving to be a chef. Cooking is Fenris' greatest passion, not killing for power and territory. He always did his best to avoid conflict and strife. Which, more or less, lead to a very ironic happening in the small restaurant he ran close the boundary of their territory. A Hero-Blood had entered his establishment, ate his food, and literally died from happiness. This particular blood-bearer was actually responsible for almost half of his siblings' deaths and that of his Elbyrt himself.

This hero was a war veteran who traveled the land, seeking those who needed help but couldn't pay. A tough customer that not even the most elite crossed paths with. Thus, this unexpected feat skyrocketed Fenris to the top of the popularity charts and he was going to be crowned King against his will. Having gone his entire life not having to be brave, simply living his life as a privileged commoner, never expected to be anything great...it terrified him.

So he disappeared and snuck away to the human kingdom. Using magic, he altered his appearance to resemble the modern populace. Ironically for him, his arrival at the human kingdom was during a festival. It was Harvest Season and chefs from all around had come to compete. By showing off their skills, they hoped to be employed by one of the nobility. Some dreamed even higher of performing well enough to be employed by the royal family. For Fenris, though, this would be the perfect opportunity to help him hide. Not to mention, he always wanted to see how he'd stack up against humans: the creators of the cooking art. (To be extended by partner.)

Note: This is a world with modern technology. The demon kingdom is just more on the 'natural' side of things.

Comments: Um, I never really thought I would amount to anything. Father always emphasized strength of body and mind. But, as the 50th child, I couldn't really get the quality focus my elder siblings got. So, I spoke to Mother and she gave me permission to leave the Palace in search of my own future. I'm not really strong physically, but my magic is pretty decent! I can light a candle from a 100 paces and manipulate a pitcher of water! Ah, but that's...not all that impressive, is it?

I never gave much thought about being King. It was a shock to learn everyone is dead. Even if they paid me no mind, I didn't hate them. I admired most of them since they had dad's attention. And they were pretty cool themselves. Heh heh, just once, I wanted to make dad dinner and hear him say 'not bad'. He wasn't the sort to out-right praise you. It was enough. Now...I can't do that.

I don't know what to expect in this Human Kingdom. The have many foods unfamiliar to demon lands, but I'm excited to try it all in a dish. The music here isn't half-bad, too.
