Haeza's Sketchbook

Yo! So uh... I have a sketchbook (which is mostly pencil and ink stuff). That is where I sketch down ideas and generally to pass time. Any sketch in my traditional sketchbook is an idea for me to make it a finished piece. Then there's my tablet. That is typically reserved for more colorful and complete works, where I use my traditional sketches as a sort of base. Although sometimes things don't translate well from traditional to digital but hey, I try my best.

*Just a note; I sketch during class, so everything is more or less quick. Luckily it runs a block schedule so there is no worry of finishing a sketch or my classwork. Just kinda keep that in mind for my traditional stuff.

What I'm mostly likely going to post here is finished sketches, some WIP stuff that I'm currently doing, and maybe even a page or two from my sketchbook. So feel free to critique, maybe comment on things you think I should do to 'compliment' my style and such. Also ideas/themes, that would immensely help me out due to a dry spell I've been under. As for commissions and stuff, I'm still not going to do that due to personal standards; I don't think I'm ready yet.
Also girls...they trouble me.

Stuff I Use:
Traditional
- Paper and mechanical pencil [.05]
- Staedtler Lead Holder [2mm]
- Crayola Water Colors (Yes, I use those)
- Reeve's Water Colors [Tube]
- Kuretake Ink

Digital
- Wacom Intuos Pro [small]
- Paint Tool Sai [Main Program]
- Photoshop Elements [Effects]
- MS.Paint (Just for text and messing around)

"Smile"
Just something I'm currently working on, didn't want to bother with saving the sketch so I just took a screenshot. This is my sort of base before I sketch in clothes and I usually leave the background blank and work on it during the color process.

"Rock On"
Something I did as a small test for this youtube thing, but upon seeing it again the head is bothering me. But oh well, it's gone by now..

Hi Haeza! Glad to see you posting biggrin

Your latest SMILE picture already looks completely different to Rock On. It definitely looks like you've improved in terms of anatomy between those to pieces, so that's great!

I do have some feed back for SMILE since it's your current work.

Now, I'm getting the impression the face is straight at us so the rest of this sort of follows that thought.

The shoulders and where you have the collar bone have dropped a fair bit. Roughly speaking the distance from your nose to your chin is around the same distance from chin to collar bone. Obviously things like perspective would that. But if you did this pose in the mirror, check out how much of a gap there is between your hands and the top of your shoulders.

You have correctly drawn the wrists lining up with the shoulder joints so that part is right!

Your forearms don't look like they are matching up well with the upper arm though. If you think about it, the forearms are in front of the upper arms so they will overlap and obscure part of them.

I've done the following and also found some photo references of 'similar' poses that aren't 100% but can show you what I mean about shoulders and how the arms overlap etc.

Similar action, just that their arms go straight out to the sides instead of down and forward like your pose.

This ones a good example of the arm bending and how much of the arm crease you can see.

Hopefully this all makes sense and is somewhat relevant to what you were going for!

Haha, well I do admit that the wrist and shoulder things was a total fluke, just happened to be drawn that way, sweatdrop . But yes, thanks for giving me some input! It does look better now, and I appreciate it.

Rather than a fluke I think I'll say it was you subconsciously knowing it would be right that way ^_~

Glad I could help and hope you like it here in the Guild!

love the shading on the second guy's pants!
his right arm is bothering em a little though sweatdrop
a good proportion to keep in mind is that the elbow reaches your waist, and the hands to about 1/3rd of the thigh, obv that when the shoulder is raised this would all shift a bit, same if the shoulder is sloped
foreshortening is awfully hard too xD what helps me is to ask friends to pose in my trouble areas, or just forego foreshortening alltogether and draw a half arm like this
whambam problem solved cool
in the case you wanted to have his arm across his chest, then try to flesh out the joint part a little! since its bending, the inside bit should have some flesh squished, even if he's superthin there oughtta be some xD

that said, i absolutely love the foreshortening on the left arm, thats something i'm too much of a coward to try xD bc i know i wont be able to pull it off xD

aand the smile pic is so gorgeous ;u; it makes me happy xD
tbh when i sw him i didnt even notice the limbs were ellongated xD but yeah chibi is right
of course if your style had somewhat altered proportions (think fashion style sketches where stuff is longer and more elegant) they would shift, too :3
its still best to practice normal anatomy before messing with proportions xD i dunno if you but i have a lot of 3d problems and sometimes its hard to make out how poses are supposed to work with normal proportions, much less stylistically altered ones xD

anyway, keep up the good work! whee

Haha, well thanks you two. I do agree, the whole anatomy thing and bending joints are sorta where I get scared. I usually remember my elbows as "below the rib cage", but now that you say it it's sort in between. If I was to try to help you out with anything about doing your art (very good by the way, much better than mine), it's how I try handling foreshadowing. You sort of do these loops and stuff, further away means smaller loops and closer mean larger. (sorry, it's sorta weird to explain...)

On the other hand I finished Smile and just going to leave all this other stuff here.
User Image
"Smile" ; You know, I originally liked it after it was all said and done, the concept and all the smileys. But now that I saw it in another thing, I realized that I still messed up with the forearms, wrist, etc. Plus the colors don't really feel impressive.

User Image
"Walking on Thin Line"; Admittingly the perspective is messed up and clouds are wonky but man was it fun coloring in this one.

And here's a whole bunch of traditional stuff, including the sketchbooks that I've filled (except for the smiley, that's my current). Then there's more smileys and me dressing up like a Wizard, I'd probably be Ravenclaw.

Just some stuff , but the first was drawn just to get my mind off of some things rather than going for a 'good' piece of work. But as you may see I took the lazy route and simple slapped on a brick texture and a smiley while I was at it.

Well I like doing tradtional stuff, it's something I do more for fun rather than improving. Especially watercolors, they tend to be fun when I try figuring out how to do something. Although looking back on a few they are skewered quite a bit. But anyways, here's some traditional stuff..

User ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser Image

Small note, I did add more the the first one with the cherry tree like buildings and more grounds stuff but I didn't take a picture cause I gave it to a friend for her birthday present. sweatdrop

I can't seem to draw in class anymore- the ideas just won't flow. Other than that, I rearranged my desk area so now everything is refreshed and spacey. Here's just some stuff I did.

User Image
Just a simple sketchy style that I like doing just for fun. Involves the pen tool and marker tool.
User Image
I really liked this one, especially how I used red and green. But the original sketch was vastly different from this one.
User Image
Something I finished. I don't really like how this one turned out, during the process everything just felt messy. Only feature I really like is the hair. That's about it.
User Image
This was one of the first times I tried adding effects to my art. In this case I tried going for a pixelated/digital fade. Also it was me sticking to just one area of color (in this case green) and a sort of venting art.

Ah, well its been a while. Well, I have been doing some drawings and stuff, thinking of selling some art to some classmates just to get some extra money. Who knows how it'll work out, I'm just going to try it out. Anyways, onto the art stuff.

User Image
Speed Paint; Well it's okay, hands are wonky like usual and the green guy's face feels off- probably is. I do like the colors though.

User Image
Speed Paint: Well I did this as a sort of thing to celebrate Halloween. The background could've used some work but I was rushing it. Luckily I did feel like I got the hands in the right places cause of references. So yeah, I should use reference more often..

User Image

Nothing special, just a background for my ipod. It's Ano hana; this one anime that I saw and really like. Feel free to use it if you want.

It's been a while since I posted something. So here's some stuff.

User Image
Something to practice skies..

User Image
More practicing with scenery...

User Image
sky practice, but just played around with stuff.

User Image
Just something I played around with, not very serious. I do need to fix the leg though, in hindsight I'm surprised I didn't fix it mid-lining.

Bear and Fox
Two characters I made up one day, sort of like the kemonomimi. Tested out something with the hair that only half-worked. But I am fairly okay with the picture so far..

I'm back with my stuff. So here it is.

User Image
First picture since I came back since mexico and first digital picture of 2015. Sorta shite quality but then again, I was away from my digital drawing stuff for two weeks. So yeah...

User Image
Just some fun doodle for an rp I was apart of. Although my tablet sorta stopped in the middle of it so I used my mouse because I just loved the characters too much. Haha...

User ImageUser Image
This is a recent comparison of my skill level. The first is recent; two days ago. The second is when I first started out, like when I had a tablet for 4 months. I really improved; but I could do better.

User Image
I personally like this one. Was my first real idea since mexico. I learned some anatomy and how proportions are suppose to be like. And I sorta incorporated it in this piece and the other ones. I could see the leg is just a bit too long compared the the other one and the clothes may be wonky, but I just like how it turned out. Especially with the Doctor Seuss quote involved.
