There was a winding, narrow path that carved through the old forest, barely wide enough to accommodate a horse -- and not a very large horse at that. Not many people came this way, and most of the ones who did went in a great hurry. Rarely did they leave anything to mark their passing beyond footprints and hoof marks and perhaps a couple of bent twigs.
Today, though, there was one clear sign of someone's presence -- a bolt of colored fabric had been rolled out on the forest floor, just a few steps away from the path and positioned behind a rock that did little to hide it from anyone attentive enough to look.
Piled up in the middle of the cloth was a scattered selection of... things? There was a bit of rope, a scrap of silk, a bowl, an ink pen, rice balls, a few arrows, some dumplings, three peaches and a bottle of sake. A few small forest creatures had been scattering around, attracted by the scent of food... but before any of them could get close, they were scared off by a flurry of moss-colored movement from the path.
A stout, determined Tessen trotted towards the cloth, dropping yet another object into the pile -- this time, a pair of mis-matched painted chopsticks.

Snowshoe wandered on the path. He was working on hiding his presence. He noticed a collection of things on the ground in front of him. "I wonder what this is about?"
Midorinin was running through the forest to work on dodging things. When he slammed into Snowshoe. "Gah!"
They rolled onto the fabric in a heap.

Having deposited the chopsticks, Cam trotted off in search of yet another item. When he returned a few minutes later, however, things were not... exactly the way he left them.
Namely, there were two other things on his blanket. Two furry, confused-looking kitsune-type things.
"Hey!" The Tessen dropped the bell he was holding in his mouth and moved to nudge both the newcomers off his collection of things. Having no idea what their intentions were, he wasn't downright hostile -- but he was certainly firm, using his bulk and strength to push the two of them onto the mossy forest floor.
"These are my supplies, for my trip. What do you want?"

Midorinin was the first to be shoved off the fabric. "Ow. Ok. I got it! Sorry I was just not paying attention."
Snowshoe sighed. He got up and dusted himself off. "I'm sorry. I was not expecting to be hurled onto your things." He eyes Midorinin. "I was just training. I don't want anything."
Midorinin stuck his tongue out at Snowshoe. He shook himself off. "Looks like I still need training..." He smirked. "A trip huh. That sounds fun!"

Seeing as the two were not putting up a fight, he let them roll off the blanket and get to their feet while he checked over his supplies. A few of the the rice balls were somewhat misshapen now, but otherwise things seemed to be in order. He moved the bell over to the center of the pile and nudged some things around to make them fit better.
"Well, ok. If you say it was an accident, I believe you. It's just very important that I have all my things for my trip." He nodded, then lowered his head to fold the corners of the blanket up around the things. Some deft paw-work later, he had the corners knotted together into a helpful loop. He stuck his head into this, shimmied around a little, and soon ended up with the bundle resting comfortably behind his shoulders.
At the mention of his impending trip, the Tessen nodded and puffed up with visible pride. "Yes, I am going on an important mission. My master lost something important in the woods, and I am going to find it for him."
