So. here's the idea: Assuming that our event for November is the GaMaWriMo writing contest (which gains its inspiration from NaNoWriMo), I'd like to propose that a group of artists come together to form the over-arching mini-comic series that will cover the event.

The Mini Comic will be divided into 3 short strips:

- #1 would delve into background info on the GaMaWriMo contest. This will most likely feature pictures of various NPCs and Gaians during a writing process. Possibly with some form of punch line at the end.

- #2 is up for debate. Will it be a serious cover of how the contest is going? Or will it just be a simple goofy little half-time comic? Or something else entirely? The only stipulation is that it would have to do with the writing contest in some form or another.

-#3 would delve into the aftermath of the contest, speaking more about words and stories and how great they are. Punchline also possible here.

ARTISTS:

We need to come to an agreement not only on what the comic will say, but who will be portraying what. For this, I suggest this type of team:

Sketch Artist: sketches up the general idea of where the comic needs to go. Basically sketches up placement of characters, word boxes, that sort of thing.

Lineart: This will be the person whose artistic style will be showcased in the comic series. They will use the sketch artist's work as a guideline to create a clean, non-colored comic strip. Saving it as a transparent will probably also be very helpful.

Color: This is the most obvious part. Their job is to color the whole thing and make it look pretty. Whether they color flat, flat shade, or something else will most likely be something they need to discuss with the line-artist to keep the tone they were going for.

Of course, this is only one way to go about it. If anyone has any other ideas they'd like to share, please post. I can't wait to hear from all of you.

Some colorists and sketch artists have issues with background scenes, so going without a dedicated background artist could cause major delays in the work.

A concept artist for each panel would also give all artists involved an idea of the flow and perspective in an image, so that the background and foreground blend seemlessly.

Actually, I'd like to get in on this! I like to think I have a knack for coloring. Let's see if I can dig up some examples...

Ah, here's one I did for an RP journal some years ago!

Original --> Colored! Unfortunately all the texture and lack of objects made adding a proper background... erm... difficult. sweatdrop

I also have a lot more examples to provide, but they are little and embarrassing, because I have mostly squandered my artistic abilities coloring manga icons for RP journals. Still, a few I do feel proud of...

Lineart... lineart, I am not so good at. I'd like to stick to colors. sweatdrop

I can certainly see your point. The sketch artist was what I essentially had in mind to fill the 'concept artist' role. After the initial idea was agreed upon, they would be making the concept sketch for the comic to share with the others.

And depending if someone does have issues with backgrounds or not, I'm sure we can figure that out when we get there. I feel I'm fairly versatile, so if there's any issues with background, I'll do my best to fill that role. Aside from that, mini-comics don't usually have very detailed backgrounds

The only other problem is that my model assumes that there will be at least three capable artists to work on this. I myself intend to work on this project. With Pie as colorist, we'll still be in need of either the sketch or lineart, depending on the type of style we wish to go for and what other artists are willing to do.

I thank you for your interest in this little project! I can certainly see that you can do a lovely coloring job. The only problem now is to see if we can't add at least one more artist. Otherwise, I'll assume all missing roles.

voted the second option instead of the first. i really like this idea, a comic would grab people's attention (more than a wall o' text).
so would Plot Pie be our October event then? or is everything just floating around atm?

From what I understand, people are avoiding putting the event in October due to clashing schedules of events that they don't want to compete for attention against.

In any case, I'm not sure what events are finalized, but I thought I'd put in my contribution of what I'm willing to do to raise awareness for the sake of the Gaia manga.
