Lux looks out the window of her bookshop gaze unfocused as she thinks of how fast the time has flown. Her children are grown now. Things changing little by little as her children start to leave the nest. Soon Jaxson will probably leave her too. No more can she pretend that they are a couple.. That there is someone that will always be by her side. Someone to protect her.. It is hard to accept such a harsh reality. Especially one that hurts her. She wants Jaxson.. She always has and she never knew why exactly.. Just that he makes her feel safe..Sometimes even listened to her opinion..

Jaxson sat outside lux's shop, hidden safely on rooftop where he knew for a fact she couldn't see him. The kids were older now, they didn't need a babysitter 24/7 and they were out for the day anyways. It had become a habit of his to watch over Lux while she worked. He had always told himself that it was to make sure that her ex-b*st*rd didn't come back, but he was slowly coming to the realization that maybe....just maybe...he actually enjoyed it.
There had always been something about her, even when they were strangers who simply argued. He had always been inexplicably drawn to her, but he couldn't bear to get close to her. Not after he killed his last fiance...along with his whole family.
The kids seemed to have control over their abilities, probably because of their mother's blood. Even though they were technically still vampires, they had a surprising amount of restraint. It sort of made him proud, actually. They didn't have to go through the hell that he did.
There was something about the way the woman moved, everything she did was captivating. He had been denying his emotions, even to himself, until recently. He had finally admitted to himself that he liked her. Having kids with someone just changes things. He could never admit that to her though. Eventually, he would have to leave...to protect her from the monster he really was.
For now though, her ex was more of a threat than he was and he would stick around to protect her. He let out a yawn and continued to watch. It was a pretty boring day, really.

Lux sighs and goes back to reshelve some books. Her mind drifting to other topics until her stomach growls. Blinking she blushes at how loud it was. " Really now?" Looking around she tells her worker that she will be going to get lunch. Taking her purse she makes her way out of the bookstore and walks down the street. Humming under her breath all the while.
Meanwhile Malikai watches from around the corner. Eyes latched onto Lux as he intends on getting the b***h back. With her whelps grown now is his chance to pounce.As she gets closer he steps out from around the corner and moves to stand directly in her path. "Why hello gorgeous."

Jaxson had almost fallen asleep on the rooftop. Really, could Lux's day be any slower? He lazily opened his eyes, realizing that it was close to her lunch time, and he scanned the area. Sure enough, she was out of her store but....she wasn't alone.
Whats-his-face was back, and he looked pissed. No way in hell Jax was going to let him hurt her though! He bounded down the rooftop stealthily and sprinted across the street, coming to a stop directly in front of Lux. His ears pinned backwards in anger and he growled low in his throat as he stared the demon right in the eyes. Back. The hell. Off. Didn't you learn your lesson last time, scumbag?

Lux steps back eyes wide with fright.Malikai is here.. In front of her.. with that sickening grin on his face. Stepping back she takes a deep breath." Get.. away from me.." He only steps closer and before she knows it Jaxson is there and she was never more happy to see him in her life. "Jaxson!"
Malikai growls as the stupid vamp gets in his way. "Get away from her. Kids are grown now. Time for you to leave isn't it? You have no attachement to her. She's mine b*****d!"

Jaxson pinned his ears flat and snarled his words as his tail flicked in anger. Our kids may be grown, but she still needs someone to save her from you, a**hole. He looks back at Lux, finding more inspiration to fight the demon. He whispers to her, trying to make sure Malikai doesn't hear.Lux, darling, run. Like...now. I've got this d**k. I'll handle it. He turned back to the demon. She's mine. You got that? You have no right to tell me if I have any attachment to her. Now back the f**k off before I go all holy on your a** again. He fingered the canteen of Holy water in his jacket pocket, hoping that the demon would have enough sense to back down. He doubted it though.

Lux stays floored where she is. Torn between running and staying. Blue eyes watch scared of what is going to happen. Will Jaxson win? After is he going to leave if he does? The uncertainty of what will happen makes her even more scared. Looking at Jaxson she listens to his words. She wants to follow them.. she does.. yet.. she can't seem to move."I.. I can't.. I can't move. " Terror had caused her to freeze. Her muscles tense keeping her in her spot."Jaxson.. If I somehow manage to get my muscles moving.. Promise me.. you'll come home..come home to your family.."
Malikai lets out a laugh."Awww how sweet. She actually thinks you care for her. What? You think he loves you Lux? Newsflash he doesn't. Why would he? A weak thing like you." He smirks when Lux trembles at his words.Sweet whimpers coming from her.Turning his gaze to the pest Jaxson he snarls."Your's? Oh I beg to differ. I don't think you do. I think you are going to just leave her and when you do I will be there. Considering you haven't told her what you or your children are. Let's face it. You don't want her. You only stayed for the children. After I am taken care of according to you. Then you will leave her alone. Vulnerable and lonely."

Jason looked back at Lux painfully. Could he say it? Did he really have to say it out loud? He agonized over the decision before making eye contact with her. His heart broke as he saw the fear in her eyes and he knew he had to say it. It would probably save both their lives. He turned back to Malikai, continuing to snarl his words. Regardless of what my children and I are or aren't, we are a family. And goddammit if I let you tear us apart. He hesitated for a second before grabbing Lux's hand. And for your information, jacka**, I DO love her. She may be the most stubborn, insulting, insufferable, bossy woman I've ever met...but shes also witty, beautiful...and... I love her. Alright? I freaking love her. So Back. The F**k. OFF. I'll fight to the death if I have to. She's mine now. MINE. He bared his fangs at Malikai before retracting them as he fidgeted with the knife in his pocket. He would cut that freak's head off if he had to. All that mattered was that Lux got out of this safely.

Lux stands there shivering when Jaxson looks back at her. She doesn't expect what happens next to occur. Yet the events cause her to get out of her paralyzed state that she is in. Hearing the words that come out of Jaxson's mouth and having his hand over hers. It gives her a bit more courage. She moves forward and quickly kisses his cheek."I love you too Jaxson. Now.. umm.. beat his a**. I'll get out of your way." She lets go and runs into her shop and goes to the second story and looks out her office window. Out of Jaxson's way so he can do what is needed.
Malikai hisses with rage." You flippin' C**t! How dare you! You took her away from me!" Snarling he jumps forward snapping at the others throat."You will pay for this!" Intent on killing the other he moves on the offense. He doesn't care about anything other than seeing this one suffer. Taking back his woman. Who the heck does Lux think she is! That b***h is his!

Jaxson almost completely ignores Lux, his gaze focused in on the demon to make sure he didn't lunge at her. As soon as he's sure she's out of the way, things start getting ugly. She was never yours to begin with, jerk. He snarls, throwing holy water at the lunging demon as he pulled an intricate knife out of his pocket. He had acquired the thing about a century ago; it was a rare demon killing knife. Jaxson had hoped he would never have to use the damn thing, but he supposed that now he had to as he shoved it into the demon's chest while he was distracted by the holy water. Take that you son of a b***h!

Malkai snarls back." She was mine before you laid hands on her!" Holy water lands on him and he hisses with pain. "How dare you take her away from me!" He is distracted and suddenly intense pain goes through his chest. Screaming in agony he falls to the ground slowly. Light flashing from inside him. Moments later he lays there dead.
Lux watched the whole thing silent. As the fight ends she is at a loss of what to do. Should she call the police? After all the body is just.. laying there.. in the street.. Perhaps Jaxson would know what to do? She is at a loss for words as the reality hits her.. her worst nightmare is dead... Jaxson murdered him.. and she is oddly okay with that. Jaxson defended her.. protected her.. he admitted he loved her.. Emotions tumble over her as she has no clue which to go with. Happy? Ashamed of how weak she is? Scared? No.. not scared.. She isn't scared anymore.. And definitely not of Jaxson. Loved and cherished? Sitting at her desk she waits as she knows that Jaxson probably didn't want her to be watching. Probably best to act as if she wasn't watching.. She has the urge to run to him yet.. she doesn't want to scare him off.. or have him yell at her. So patiently she will wait. Let him do things his way.

Jaxson stared at the body in disbelief that his aim had been that spot on. Wow. He finally killed the only real threat in Lux's life, the one thing he was protecting her from. Looking around, he quickly grabbed the body by the ankles and drug it behind the shop. They would have to bury it to keep from being caught...
As he drug the body he thought about how he had no real reason to stay anymore. He was a threat to Lux's safety, and so were the kids. As it was, the demon blood was incredibly tempting. He could feel his fangs pushing at the lips of his gums. She no longer had anything to be scared of except for himself, really. He wasn't sure he could bear to keep her life in that much danger. What if he snapped one day? There was also the unbearable thought that one day, she would grow old and he would not...
He heaved the body into a dumpster and sprinted back to the shop, bursting through the doors to check on Lux. He couldn't worry about all that other stuff right now, he just needed to make sure she was okay.How much had she seen?
LUX! Lux? He's...he's dead. That damn a**hole is finally gone. I promise.He panted his words,tired from running, and looked around for her.

She had wanted to do things his way.. But.. hearing his voice downstairs caused all willpower to resist what she wants vanished. Before she knew it she is up and running downstairs. Turning the corner she runs to where he is and runs smack dab into him. She holds him tight and burrows her head into his chest. " I was so scared.. Scared that he would kill you...Jaxson.." She looks up at him and then kisses him. Arms go around his neck and her body presses against his as if they were two puzzle pieces that fit together. Pulling back she looks at him."Please don't.. please don't leave... I.. I love you. I don't want you to leave.. " Going from happy to vulnerable she had realized that perhaps the only reason he stayed was to take care of Malikai.. What if he leaves her? After admitting he loved her.. It is all so likely.. and.. She starts to choke up and tears start to form. She doesn't want him to leave her. Not her.. not their family."Jaxson.. please don't leave.. I need you.. please..I don't care that you killed him.. Or that you and our children have pointy teeth. Don't deny it. Do you think I am so oblivious that I didn't notice the bloody steaks and the blood you slipped into the food for you and the children? Jaxson.. please.. I don't want you to leave. You can even stay in the bed with me.. Please.. stay with me."

Jaxson had been looking to his left for Lux When he was practically tackled from his right. The embrace, though aggressive, was also warm and just felt...right. He looked down at Lux and laughed. Him? Kill me? Did you really think I would let a lousy demon get the better of me? He was midway through a laugh when he was startled by her kiss but quickly melted into it. It felt even better than when he was drunk at the bar that night. They really did fit together, like they were made for each other.I..I..I think I love you too. He had to choke out the words and force himself to be vulnerable. The blush bloomed across his face and he looked away to try to keep Lux from seeing it. Then she began to cry and brought up everything he had hoped to avoid. Really? She couldn't have waited a little while to dive into all that B.S.? His ears flatten in anger and denial as she talks about vampires.
What are you talking about? The kids and I have nothing wrong with ourselves. He took a deep breath and relaxed his fangs (Which had beeen itching to get out) back into his gums. I guess I won't take off just yet. You do know I'm dangerous, right? The longer I'm around the more likely something bad is going to happen. I'd rather leave and keep you safe than stick around and cause harm...

Lux smiles slightly as he jokes about the demon getting him. Shaking her head she just relishes into the kiss. Not to long after things start to shift. She can see her words angered Jaxson. Looking at him her body goes cold. Not at the dangerous part.. But him still going to leave. "What would happen Jaxson? You killed the only real threat to me personally. So what the hell are you going on about? What other than leaving could you do to hurt me? Because you leaving would hurt worse than anything you could do to my body. I can take physical pain.. but pain of a broken heart is worse."
