Okay, I'm sure we all have some bad habits we do while we draw. Roll em out here and we can all go 'OMG I DO THAT TOO' and be sympathetic towards one another and the odd things we do! --- For me, I tend to squint at the screen or lean in really close to it even though there is a handy zoom function. I also tend to mimic facial expressions I'm drawing, even though I'm not looking in a mirror to check I'm doing it right. Another one is tilting my head to the side, as though that's really gonna help me think while drawing. Tends to leave me with an angled picture that I need to rotate in the end though XD

I lean in really close and squint at my laptop as well, and completely forget about the zoom.

It'd be nice if I could draw neat in one go and save time crying

HitokiriChibi I also tend to mimic facial expressions I'm drawing, even though I'm not looking in a mirror to check I'm doing it right. I think we're all doing it subconsciously xD it's even funnier when You're drawing a group picture and at some point You just realize all those faces You make to the screen...

When I used to livestream on Twitch for the other forum I go on, I sometimes had my webcam on so they can see me while I'm drawing...
And then the comments would start filtering through the chat - 'Do you realise your doing that exact same expression? Are you doing that on purpose?'

After finishing any art, I feel like it's one of my best art I have ever completed. This feeling lasts for a day or so. Afterward, I start questioning the finished art's quality. I get really paranoid that I miss something in the art and start fixing certain part over and over again. The fixing continues for weeks and sometime month. When I think there's nothing else to fix, I start to feel really depress cause I think I can do better than that. The sadness continues till I draw something new xD

When I think there's nothing else to fix, I start to feel really depress cause I think I can do better than that. The sadness continues till I draw something new xD Yeah, I totally get that too - especially the part about being really pleased with something, like you've totally outdone yourself, then becoming horribly disillusioned with the work you've created. Either I end up going over and over it, sometimes ruining the whole thing, or I get upset and destroy it. A lot of the time I end up not finishing things at all because I'm worried that it's not going to be as good as some of the things I've done previously - like, I have this idea that each thing you do should be noticably better than the last. Which is crazy - everyone has to screw up sometimes, it's how you improve. It's just really bloody destructive perfectionism, and I wish I could break out of this cycle.

You know what though? I think it's GOOD in a way that you can look back over your work and be critical and find things that need to be fixed because it shows that you can see areas you need to improve.
I think, while we're all still learning and growing as artists, the worst thing that could happen would be to see everything we do as perfect and above criticism because you'd be locking yourself into a set level and not allowing yourself to grow and evolve.
Every time you see something that can be fixed, it's one thing you'll remember for the future and you'll work on in it and keep improving! It shows that you understand what you've done wrong and you'll start thinking about how to do it differently so it comes out right the next time.
In some ways, it's a good negative because it means you intellectually know that you could do better even though your current skills may not be there JUST yet - but you'll get there!

my bad habit is getting distracted, and then trying to finish the art in one sitting :/ i dont like rushing, but i know that if i dont finish when i feel inspired it's gonna be a week or so of stalling :/
hmm then.. i really cant say much about staring so hard it burns my eyes, ive actually started doing the lineart on a gray bg so they wont hurt as much 3nodding
aand in the past i used to forget layers were a thing, im so glad those days are gone now crying

Ooooh I used to hurt my eyes with the screen being bright and all and yeah - it's also why I've started working on darker backgrounds and stuff. Crazy how a simple change like that can make such a difference and I never thought of it before.

yes indeed! tbh i got the idea from my bf, he's a programmer and spends the most part of the day staring at lines of code on a black bg
if never have thought of it by myself otherwise burning_eyes <- accurate depiction
i used to think it would strain the eyes more but it turns out its actually much better than white xD
its such a simple fix but at the same time not something people think about, apparnently!

Haha speaking of - my programmer housemate also told me about this program called f.lux which actually makes the colours on your screen warmer as it goes into evening so it creates less strain on your eyes. Not good for colour work obviously (it does have a disable feature for that sorta thing) but for just general being on the computer for long periods of time it certainly helps against eye strain too.

Worst habit I have is getting caught up in one part of a sketch/doodle/drawing and developing tiny details on it while the image as a whole hasn't yet been refined. Have so many pictures of a stick figure with some very loose anatomy and very detail hand/foot/article of clothing/any other random section that's in the wrong place or disproportionate to the rest of the figure because I didn't work down from the over all image first and then into the smaller individual parts.
