Personally I adore them and have 3. I have a Peryton, a Longma, and a simple Deer that I just came up with and drew. I think they provide diversity. We've already seen other animals like Buffalo, Dragons, Cows, Zebras etc. and a few that are a little more exotic like Minotaurs and Centaurs. Who's to say there aren't others?

I guess they would be Original Characters, thought there's not much you can do with them that doesn't involve killing other OCs which is generally frowned upon, but sure.
