Hey there, just looking for a quiet place to post my works in progress where a few people will see it but I wont be overwhelmed with too much feedback right away. I do appreciate any comments or critique though. :3

This first one I'm going to be doing a redraw of a drawing I did last year. It's of a young witch and her cat...in the sketch for the new one I like to think she's been at school for awhile and they've both grown up a little, she's gotten achievement ribbons on her hat and she knows a little magic maybe? (I felt like it was a cop out of me originally hiding her other hand so I tried to add it back in somehow.) It's not an exact copy, just a rejuvenation of this idea but still similar enough I can say 'yay I've improved!'

Gotta say I love your painting style and how you've done the face of your in the first painting!

Now with the redraw your doing I can't help but feel like the hat isn't really sitting on her head very well. Generally when you have a hat band, that part is what fits snug to the head to keep it in place and the rest sort of goes on from there. This is a tute that kinda goes into a simple way of drawing hats on heads to give you a better idea of what I mean XD

And I can already see a huge improvement just in the sketch of the cat between this new version and the last one! Can't wait to see more progress done on this biggrin

I really love that hat and how its all spindly and crooked with fabric creases. whee

Just a practice today to see what I can do without a warmup and under the pressure of knowing that whatever I'm doing is going to be done in an hour (give or take 5~10 minutes because my self control is.. -,-) Right now most of my speedpaints are portraits and I think they tend to come out quite well so it was a challenge to see how much of an actual posed full figure I could get to look somewhat decent I guess? Needs more practice I think.

I'm glad the hat tutorial was able to help you and you've changed it again since the last picture too - I was going to say it seemed the hat was 'straight' on her head but you've since tilted it to match the angle properly so it looks heaps better!

I love her eyes - so shiny and glittery looking!

Obviously this is still a WIP so I'm sure there's still heaps more you'll be doing with the hair but at the moment it still seems too evenly lit - from the light shine in her eyes I expect the light to be coming from our left so I'm imagining the inner parts of her hair falling on our left will be darkened as will the hair towards the back right to bring more contrast and get us really focusing on her face. Here's a tute on hair too seems you seem geared in going for the realistic approach.

Thank you! Oh my gosh I spent like all day working on that hair today! @.@ ... #.# I skimmed the tutorial yesterday before bed and was like 'oooh this is going to be fun!' and it was but that many steps was exhausting! x3 I learned a few things and it turned out great even though I did have to fight myself to follow it completely sometimes. x3;;; I started over completely on the hair for the tutorial and I think it was worth it, but next time I will use what I learned and condense those many steps a lot. x3 (Yay for playing with spackled brushes a lot too! Also I actually really liked the smudging advice in there, it helped with softening a lot o.o Also lol at using a realistic tutorial for purple hair, I thought that was humourous cus I'm a dork xD)

Thank you! ^^ Yea the eyes did look off..I think I fixed it a little better but I still don't think they're aligned perfectly so I guess I'll keep going and I've got each of them on their own layer now for future realignment attempts. x3;; I love colouring eyes and making them super colourful - you should totally try using unexpected colours! ^^

Anyways oh gosh does my neck hurt, here's the progress after today~ (time to go play some mario kart then head to bed for me!)

Thanks! I tend to be obsessive with tutes and follow them nearly exactly until the end. x3 They're great though for trying new things and learning about things you aren't as comfortable with or just doing cool effects...cool effects tutorials are awesome. *_*

Bedtime seems to come way too soon when I'm drawing at night. D; Still got some more work to put into this, but that will have to wait until tomorrow~
