S U R N R N E R ' S - S K E T C H B O O K

Hello! I love critique, gimme all you got.
I haven't been drawing for long, so I still need to get some stuff like anatomy and poses down. xD

Since I don't have a tablet, I do like this: Traditional sketch -> Digital line and color ((with mouse))
I use Paint Tool Sai

I post all my stuff in my tumblr
But that's mostly finished stuff.

I like it but from that angle you wouldn't see the crack in between her cheeks >////////////<

Hi Summer! ^_^

I thought I'd pop in and give some critique.

I think you did a great job in laying out the pose and you put a lot of time into the hair and getting those ribbons all nice and fluttery.

Now I think you will need to look up proportions because for me it's gone past the 'chibi' stage of proportions and looks like it's trying to be more realistic, in which case the head is too large for that body.

This is an anime style proportions tutorial and the same general rules apply. From her chin to her crotch, that should be two head lengths (roughly since human bodies can be different). In this case though, her head is the same length as her torso.

You've actually done well because aside from the head, the rest of the proportions actually marry up quite nicely. There are all sorts of tricks you can use to match things up - for instance, the length of your feet is usually the same length as your elbow to your wrist. Try it, it's usually very very close XD You've gotten that length correct in your drawing.

I think a great way of learning anatomy and proportions is learning how the size of one thing determines the length and sizes of others. Some people do it in terms of head lengths and widths and if you look through various tutorials you can actually mix and mash different techniques to make your own way of developing the body. Here's another handy tutorial on that sort of thing and if you scroll to the summary at the end you can see some examples of poses and how things match up.

Hope this helps, and keep on drawin'~!

Aaah, yeah I can see that xD
I tend to make the heads too big e.e

Thank you very much for the critique! I'll make sure to work on that~

I'm not sure how you start your drawings but personally I always start by doing the head - because all the other proportions tend to be based off it.

The head lets you know how wide the shoulders should be and also the length of the torso, which then lets you add in the arm lengths because you match up the elbow to the torso's waist and the tips of the fingers tend to end mid thigh... etc etc lol

Also, it is helpful to construct body of simple figures when sketching (circles, trapezoids, rectangles) to keep this proportions and imagine character in a difficult pose/angle and then slowly lead it to details.
