It's Monday night, I'm online browsing through the internet when I come across this link that says: GMO Foods to Avoid. In my mind I think "well this should be interesting, I've never heard of this." So I click on it and read that GMO goods are either good for you or they cause serious health problems. My question is do you guys/gals avoid these too or should I be more worried about what I buy?
Here is the link: http://www.responsibletechnology.org/10-Reasons-to-Avoid-GMOs
And here is the link for the "safe" argument against it. http://www.csa.com/discoveryguides/gmfood/overview.php

well the environmental and economical concerns are entirely valid in my opinion. the health concerns are still debatable in terms of plant based foods, but worth being wary of anyway personally, because that side is debatable, and it is hard for many people especially in urban & suburban areas to avoid gmo's entirely + afford all organic food, i think it is reasonable to still by gmo's. however i do try to buy some organic foods (and grow a bit of my own) when possible since it is not just a matter of personal health but also a wider scope of environmental wellbeing.

My family eats entirely organic because we don't believe it's good to be eating genetically modified foods. If more than 60 countries believe them to be unsafe (by unsafe I mean they ban them or have them heavily restricted) then I'm not going to touch it! Monsanto is also a disgusting, evil corporation that controls a lot of the farming industry of the US and supporting them is not something I want to do by purchasing GMO foods either.

Little late to this party, but the scientific research does not demonstrate that there is any harm in consuming the ones that are verified to be safe for human consumption (there are varieties that are not made for human consumption that would not be healthy for our consumption.). I don't even bother with organic foods unless they are on sale. Most people have an over inflated sense of what organic really means and what sorts of things are considered to be organic.
A lot of the problems have with GMO's are due to the many regulations that people who fear them, due to their own ignorance, have their representatives in government legislate. These regulations make it so it is prohibitively expensive to enter this field for smaller companies, and so that only really big companies can play.
As for the countries that ban them: Those countries did so for popular opinion reason, and not science based reasons.
What we really need to do is fix farming practices. Organic farming is not exempt from this. Farming in your backyard is a great idea and helps you ensure that even fewer animals are harmed for your consumption. smile

I'd rather avoid them. There seems to be a pattern where unnatural things aren't the best option.
