The gist of the story: Tirek was defeated and sent back to Tartarus, but his signature weapon, The Power of Darkness, was never actually dealt with in either incarnation (blown up by a rainbow in G1, sent back to hell in G4). Since the two incarnations are different, I was wondering how I might get a good feeling for TPoD's ability to corrupt people and encourage them to serve it, similar to how Frodo had ring troubles in Lord of the Rings. Why? Because Spike found it, has been corrupted by it, and is slowly losing what's good about himself in service to a dark lord.
Aside from that, it pretty much will be Lord of the Rings for the first half, before I deal with Tirek and have Spike become the new, if tragic, Big Bad. The problem is, I'm trying to stay true to each pony's characters, avoid on-screen murder in a similar vein to what The Powerpuff Girls, Justice League, and Batman: The Animated Series did while still having several outright villainous goings-on, and try to set Spike up as a Tragic Hero/Villain Protagonist without coming off as cliche. What are your thoughts?
