Some of the staff, have been wondering what your preference is. Do you prefer dubbed? or subbed?

Many feel that dubbed usually have annoying cast members. I know Aniplex is notorious at that, I feel Funimation always does a good job though.

So please vote in the polls, and maybe even post your answer and why!

Subbed is way better. Dubbed voice-actors usually mess up the pronunciation of the names, and subbed animes give you a feel of what the manga-ka had intended for the characters.

I'm pretty much impartial to the whole thing; you can't really decide which is better because they're two totally different things. One is made a japanese audience, the other is for a western audience who is not use to subtitles or prefers it in their own language. Its like this, saying so and so is better than so and so is like saying "Oh, I hate barbies" Well, yeah, you're 14, its not intended for you. And vice a versa, because I'm 14 I'd rather play video games. I.E. your age, 14 in this case, represents you're group. Barbies and video games represent sub and dub, they're two different things that each have their own targeted demographic. TL; DR: Its okay to have a preference but I dunno don't downplay either one just because its not intended for you.

Yes, I understand what you are saying. We are only doing this to see the preference of the members. Me and a fellow crew member, was just curious of what the outcome would be. We focus on both dubbed and subbed here in the guild. Although, I prefer dubbed, I am not able to say dubbed is better. When anime's are dubbed, some are made horribly, they leave out some stuff, that subbed would include.

Oh yeah, I know lol I totally understand, I'm just saying y'know, not everyone tells it as an opinion but as fact but yeah, I totally agree with you on that, sometimes the dub can be bad and some phrases should of been kept. But hey, nothing is perfect, sub definitely has its problems too. Lol

In my opinion, dub is worse, because american translators like to change the actual dialogues. Good example is "Space Dandy" where characters says sometimes totally different things than in japanese version. Even Watanabe wandered how they gonna bend changed dialouges to the upcomming plot.
I cannot say, that sub are perfect. People who translate are often amatours, but they trying. And they are making a lot o grammar errors (maybe their parent-language isn't english?)

Part of the problem is that translating and anime in one language into English tends to lead to the mouth movements being off. so you have to change the dialog. A good example is Naruto, the changed the dialog on naruto as they found that sticking to the original led naruto and others in the show's mouths keep moving long after they finished talking. So no mater what, you will always have that issue. One line in Japanese will hardly ever take the same exact amount of time to speak in English, So the moth movements, witch are drawn to the spoken Japanese language become to long in English so more words have to be added. or if its to short, they have to shorten the spoken sentence up.

Add to that, you can never really translate from one language to another with out there being some kind of errors. A good example of this is German. I know German, just enough to ask for directions, and to get food. They have 3 different words for "the" and knowing witch form of that word to use can be tricky.

This is what we learned from the Japanese teacher who also ran the anime production class at the high school I went to.

I understand the problem of to short/to long sentences. But changing the dialoug sometimes means changing the meaning of the story. For example, Pokemon movies english version is full of morals and changed the meaning of the original message. Maybe they trying to adjust japanese culture to american.

And if you are talking about FMA I really like Greed. But in FMA Brtotherhood Alex Louis Armstrong wining the show wink
