A boy from America travels around the world on a thing called Teen Tours! right before he goes off to college. Throughout his life, he has been someone that was deemed dependable, smart, and someone who thought things out. On his last day on the tour, they our in London, seeing one more show of Hamlet before a small group walks down the street. They are advertising a small scale performance of one of Shakespeare's comedies and they are calling themselves 'Shakespeare out Loud'. Disobeying an adult for the first time in his life, he decides to go to the performance because of someone he talks to for only a moment, though it changes everything forever.
Viola is a girl from Holland, who seems to be a career traveler. She hasn't been home in over two years, and goes wherever the wind takes her. She is almost the opposite of reliable, always flightly, and only giving herself over for one night. Every city is littered with ones she has fallen in love with, and then left, but every now and then she goes back to a lover for a night or so. After inviting a boy from a group to one of her performances, she decides to go home, but sees the boy at a train station.
The boy has wanted to see Paris, but it was canceled on Teen Tours! because of the strikes. Viola offers to take him, and she does. After spending a wonderful night touring Paris, discovering wonderful accidents, and having one night of love, he wakes up to find her gone. Thinking the worst, he leaves, thinking he will never see her again.
After spending a couple hours in the hospital, she heads to the place she last spent with him, expecting him to still be there, but he has already left. Thinking he had come to his senses and realized how much better than her he was, she leaves the place and goes to Russia, determined to forget him.
Soon, he begins to save up money, thinking maybe he was wrong about that night. Now, he has enough money to go back to Paris, where it all began. Can he find her? And is she already looking for him?
