Due to her recent promotion and status within the town's Council, Katrina was given the option to move into the Embassy.
She refused, and was instead given a 'bigger on the inside box' as her bonus.

Despite the fact that the sun was just beginning to set, Katrina felt like her day had lasted years. She had been awake since having a vision over twenty-four hours ago, and it felt like not a moment had gone by without her using magic. She was exhausted not just physically and mentally, but also magically. Her abilities had been drained, making her feel weak and useless, something she would never accept into her life. The only solution was to rest. Sleep would let her recharge, and maybe some meditation after that.

For now though, Kat could barely manage to kick off her shoes before stumbling through her apartment. She was forced to use the walls for balance many times before she finally made it into her room, where she flopped unceremoniously onto her bed. She focused on letting her mind empty, allowing herself to relax and let go of all the stress she felt. Within just a few minutes, she was soundly asleep.

Many hours later, just before dawn, Katrina was jostled awake. She struggled to sit up, to figure out what was going on, but a something struck her face, emanating a loud Crack! and yelp of pain from the woman. Unprepared and unsure of what was happening, she used all of her strength to push up and dislodge the intruder. Kat peered into the darkness, just managing to see the outline of what was attacking her. The thing came closer, crawling its way back up to her silently. Her breath caught in her throat, strangling a scream that made its way out in short gasps.

It was a hideous creature that had died long ago, jaw wide open as its long bony fingers reached for her again. Katrina scrambled back instinctively, kicking up her sheets as her back reached the backboard. Her gaze darted around the room, but it was still too dark for her to see anything beyond the creature in front of her. The zombie gripped her face before she could react, drawing her forward before pushing her head into the mirror that hung above the bed. Kat screamed, her heart racing as she felt blood flow from a cut above her ear.

The being moved to attack her again. Katrina kept moving, twisting and scrambling until she fell from the bed. Driven by pure instinct, she clutched the nightstand for support, trying to rise up. Before she could get to her feet, the creature collided with her again. Its fingers, long and thin, wrapped around her throat, squeezing. Beyond the pain, it was the sense of panic that overtook Kat. She flailed through the onset of dizziness, trying to do anything to get away. Her thrashing caused the zombie to bump the nightstand, and with a stroke of pure luck the lamp on top rolled off, smacking into the creature. It fell to her side, and Kat heard the lamp crack in two. The distraction had given her an opportunity, a chance to turn things around. Unstable as she was, Katrina managed to get to her knees, her breathing ragged and hoarse. She snatched the lamp from the ground, raising it high before slamming it down on top of the zombie's head.

Again, and again, and again. She could hear the sickly sound of its brain being bashed in. Shuck, shuck, shuck. But she continued to bring the lamp up, then down. Up, down, up...down. Shuck.

Eventually, Katrina dropped the lamp. The adrenaline was draining from her body, leaving only the sense of shock to numb the pain of her injuries.

"Yaaayy~~"

The curtains by the window were thrown to one side, letting the cool light of dawn into the room. Everything held a bluish tint, though it was unable to stifle the sense of fear in the room.

"You did so good. Good for you! Go Katrina! You stopped one whole zombie!" Despite the earnest sound of cheer in her voice, Lily's expression betrayed her absolute disgust. "You know, I thought I should bring three, maybe even four of my souls for you to fight, but then I thought, why? She can kill one real quick, I'll have my entrance, and she'll still look great at the funeral. But just look at you." Lily sighed, stepping around the body on the floor to reach for Katrina. "Oh well. Nothing wrong with a closed casket." Withdrawing a knife from her boot, Lily whipped open the blade, taking pleasure in the look of horror in the eyes of her prey. She watched as Katrina processed what was going to happen, grinned as she realized that Lily was much more of a threat than some undead being. Seconds passed where she loomed over Kat, letting her scramble on the floor, probably looking for glass to use as defense.

"Bored now." said Lily after a few more moments, sure that Kat would be unable to offer any more entertainment. It was always best to end the show while it was still at a high point, after all. Swiftly, Lily grabbed Katrina by the hair, pulling her head up to expose her neck. She let her blade sink into the right side of Katrina's throat next, pulling to the left just a hairsbreadth before stopping.

"Wha-?" Lily continued to pull, but it was as if her movement was being blocked. As much as she tried, the blade could not move any further left. She couldn't control her hand. "You've got to be F*CKING JOKING." Screamed Lily, her rage boiling as she moved punch Kat instead. "You're a telepath?" She shouted, bringing her fist to Kat's jaw. The hit broke Katrina's concentration, allowing Lily to move freely once more. The Goddess brought her blade down on Kat, uncaring of where it landed so long as it was buried in flesh.

Unfortunately for Lily, the knife skimmed passed Kat's arm, sticking itself in the carpet. An annoyed shout escaped her and within seconds she was leaning over Katrina again, using her knee to keep the telepath pinned down. "Don't. you. ever. try. to. control. me!" she screamed at Kat, punctuating each word with a solid blow to the face. After a few seconds, Lily reached for the knife, no longer worried about having fun. Instead, she wanted this job done. Amos needed to see that her threats were never to be taken lightly, and Arthur had to be reminded of her cpabilities. Moving swiftly, for fear that this telepath would manage to grasp hold of her thoughts again, Lily brought the knife down, letting it sink deep into Katrina's chest. After a moment, she pulled the blade out, then stabbed again. Lily repeated the action several times over.

Katrina couldn't scream. She couldn't cry. She couldn't breath. She knew she was dying, though. She could feel herself slipping away. Already she couldn't see, couldn't even feel the pain any more. But she could hear it. The awful sound from that creature...no, not the creature. This time it was her. She was the one being bashed in.

Again, and again, and again. Shuck, shuck, shuck. Up, down, up...down. Shuck.

As she lay dying, unable to feel anything around her, one thought crossed her mind. Everything will be fine.

And then Katrina Nave was gone.

Lily was grinning as she sat back, allowing herself to take a breather as she waited to make sure the telepath was truly dead. There was no way she would leave anything up to chance, not when she still hadn't gotten what was her's. Several minutes passed, and every so often Lily would add another stab here, another stab there...just to be sure.

Finally, she was convinced. Lily allowed a laugh to escape her, light and sweet, a sharp contrast to the horrible scene around her. She continued to smile as she stood, preparing to leave, when she noticed an emerald around the woman's neck. She leaned over, inspecting the gem before ripping the chain off and pocketing the necklace. As she shifted again, she realized that something was missing...this message needed more flair, a little more oomph. Within seconds she was at work, using her knife to etch into Katrina's arm.

Day 1

Leaning back, she admired her work. It was a beautiful message, the kind that Lily knew would not be underestimated. Sighing contentedly, she wiped the knife off using the bed linens before sheathing it back into her boot. This day was going so good so far; she wondered if Leon would be up for a hunt later.

With her mind already moving on to the next task in her agenda, Lily left the apartment and the two bodies inside.

It had been a day after the events of yesterday. Amos felt worn out, even after a nights rest in a magical motel. Well, the motel claimed to be magical. In reality, there was nothing magical about it, just high quality, especially for a motel. The beds were the memory foam kind and shower was accommodating with different functions and set pressures.

The real reason still felt tired was that damn dragon. The hunter hoped he wouldn't meet another "immortal" being for at least a year. Hades not included. It always seemed to be the same when Amos met someone who called themselves immortal. They were arrogant to the point of irritating. There was a point in the aging hunter's life where he remembered how jealous and furious he would become when he came into contact with those kind of people. It's what lead him in attempt on murdering the fourth archangel. He came so close, if only weren't for his brother stabbing him in back at the last moment. His quest for power and dominance was brought to an end. And that was what landed the hunter in youth a nice hot spot in hell before clawing his way out.

Those times were behind him. Amos was midway through his human years and not getting any younger, though, he would have liked to think he was wiser. The hunter was now a man on an eternal mission, redeem himself for his past misdeeds. To further his cause, eliminating Lily from the world was a place to start. Amos then remember that he should probably check on Kat. The necromancer had said she would target the genie. Kat was an asset to Amos and someone he owed a debt to. She had helped saved his life twice already.

After paying for his stay at the motel, Amos headed out, relieving a very nervous owner of his presence. The white haired mercenary began heading to the Janhall Apartment complex, the place where Kat had told she was if he ever needed to see her. Upon arriving, and walking up the stairs to her floor, something was amiss. The air had a familiar scent in it. Amos knew it all too well. Blood. He could smell the iron. He drew his pistol and readied himself for action, fearing the worst may have actually happened. His thoughts as raced as he rushed down the hall. The door to Kat's apartment was left wide open.

Amos entered with his gun close to chest, ready to fire. "Kat." He called out, letting the sound of his voice drift off into the home and fade away. There was no sound. Only the smell of blood and flesh. Following the scent, Amos located the source, much to his dismay. the worst had happened. There on the floor was the genie's corpse, along with that one other zombie from the hospital. How did it come back? No doubt this was Lily's handy work.

Swallowing the pain and remorse he felt for the genie, Amos quickly got to work investigating, but not before using Kat's telephone to call a mutual acquaintance. "Operator? Yes, could you please connect me to Arthur Hopper? On second thought, could you deliver a message to him. Tell that Amos Duggar needs to see him immediately at Kat's house. It's urgent." The aging hunter then hung up the phone, closed the front door, and continued investigating the murder.

The genie had been stabbed numerous times, and strangled. There was clearly a struggle. A broken lamp was on the ground and blood everywhere. Kat had been stabbed predominately in her chest. The outlying punctures must have been when Lily got bored. That meant that she stuck around, at least for a little while before leaving. There was also a bloody scarring in the genie's arm. "What's this?" Murmured the hunter as he inspected the wound. It was some kind of etching. He couldn't make any sense of it. Amos could only hope that Artie wasn't too busy or caught up with that demon girl from before. This was something he needed to finally be apart of as well.

Every Sunday morning, Navarre would visit Katrina, bearing the gifts of coffee and bagels. Occasionally, he would pick up muffins, or maybe a couple of danishes; it just always depended on how the previous week had played out. This happened each week, without fail, ever since they had met in the grocery store. She had introduced herself, giving her usual shortened version of her name. He was new to the human world, and had wondered if it was common practice to have names related to candies, and when she asked what he'd meant, he had simply held up a kit-kat bar, sparking an uproar of laughter from Katrina and the beginning of a new nickname.

Recalling how quickly this week had flown by, Navarre knew that the perfect cure to her hectic schedule would be jelly filled muffins and a blended drink full of so many espresso shots, Navarre wondered how Kat would ever manage to sleep again. His own drink was a much weaker brew, diluted even further with soy milk and ice. But it would do the trick, he knew. This breakfast would launch a new week; it would energize Katrina for her work on the Council, and Navarre knew that his own work would be easier to tackle.

As he balanced their drinks and bag of muffins, Navarre walked as quickly as he could up the steps outside of Katrina's apartment. As he approached the doorway, his brow rose slightly, curious as to why the door would be left open. It was already a warm day, even this early on, but unless her air conditioning had broken, it didn't make much sense to him. Curiously, he glanced inside, his ears picking up the sound of movement further inside. But it was only one person moving, someone larger than Katrina, and heavier. Her footfalls were always light, almost airy...this person was definitely not her. The idea of it being a boyfriend crossed his mind; but even when she had been dating Nicolo, Katrina had still made sure to save Sunday mornings for herself and Navarre. He doubted she would forget now.

"Kit-kat?" he called out, stepping over the threshold. Within seconds, he deposited their food and drinks on the coffee table. His hand would need to be free in case this was indeed an intruder. For a second, Navarre was reminded of the recent burglaries by that illusionist guy. Could he be here? Katrina had told him of the painting heist, maybe he had something else he wanted to take?

It was too quiet, he realized suddenly. Katrina would have the news on the television by now, and her dishwasher would be running, cleaning the plates she'd used over the weekend. Navarre felt himself tense, but he moved further into the apartment, his expression wary.

Artie Hopper

Artie had gotten a message from the operator that worked at the apartments Kat lived in, but the message was strange. That guy, Amos, wanted him to come to Kat's house because it was urgent, so the moment he had gotten the message, he had rushed as quickly as he could. Upon arriving at the apartment, he could hear the voice of someone in there that wasn't Kat nor Amos, so he rushed inside only to see both Amos and an elf here, but..

"Kat...?" He said with widened eyes as he saw the corpse of Kat on the ground and another corpse that seemed to have been a zombie. He instantly figured what happened and suddenly one of his wolves appeared from his shadow and went to Kat and looked and sniffed near her neck before looking at Artie and then disappearing into his shadow again. "Dammit, so that's how it is. Amos, go call the police and inform the Council at town hall. I'm going to find Lily and drag her to the authorities, half dead if I have to." He stated simply to Amos, completely ignoring the elf. The rage in his eyes was evident. "Come." He said, anger in his voice, and from all sorts of shadows in the apartment, 20 large shadowy wolves appeared. "Track her down, now." He stated to the wolves as he turned to leave the apartment as 19 of the wolves disappeared, leaving one with Artie. This was a side of the shy boy that no person would usually see, an anger that is comparable to a raging pack of wolves, a predator ready to hunt his prey down.

(Edit: Fixed some spelling errors.)
PostPosted: Sun Jul 26, 2015 3:24 pm

Amos inspected the bloody etching in Kat's limp arm a bit more. After peering at it long enough, he had deciphered it was a message from Lily. The deranged necromancer was taunting him. "One." Amos whispered. "As in one day left." The hunter closed Kat's open eyes and stood up, grabbing a sheet to place over her lifeless corpse. It wasn't until aging hunter heard a noise from outside the bedroom. Someone calling for Kat. Amos realized just how bad of a predicament he was in.

The hunter looked himself over. He wasn't covered in any blood, so he was safe. But, he would be looked at as an intruder to who this person was that had entered. The hunter quickly began formulating a plan; something to tell this new person and convince them he wasn't the killer. It probably didn't help to still have possession of a sword that emitted demonic energy. Amos took a breathe before slowly walking out of the bedroom. The sword on his back sheathed, and his gun holstered and tucked away. Amos exited and made himself look as harmless as possible.

The man outside, was an elf, and young one at that. Elves had incredible life spans. To Amos, a mere human, this elf looked like he was only in his twenties, but he could have just as easily been over a century old. Amos was just about to confront the elf peacefully, when an overly excited Artie waltz in and past the two. "Arthur wait..!" Amos called, but was too late. The boy had already wandered inside the bedroom to Kat's covered corpse and the decaying body adjacent to it. Arthur then came out, bearing a completely different personality. He was full of anger and hatred. Indignation the death of his friend. The change made Amos raise a brow in suspicion, but the hunter passed it off when the boy began acting like an adult.

Upon being told to inform the authorities, Amos nearly laughed. Where this boy get off barking orders? The hunter had to stop him before he got into some kind of trouble. Amos put a hand on the young lad's shoulder just before he could leave. "Whoa whoa whoa there. Slow down Artie. Just what do you think you're going to do? Cuff Lily and put her under arrest?" Amos' tone was a bit salty, but he needed to give Artie some bite to wake him up from his anger. "You're consumed by grief and anger. You want revenge and justice. You think any of that will happen if you get Lily?"

Amos had become cold and hard. A change from his usual calm and gentle self. "Lily is a demigod with the power to control the dead. Even worse is that she's sold her soul. That thing walking around is just a shell she occupies. Even if you're able to, killing it will do no good. She'd just get another one. And then you'd have to do it all over again. And no doubt your wolves want to have a dead master be dragged down into the ground. Think about it, before rushing into something like this. Do you think any of this would make Kat happy or bring her back?"

Amos dearly wanted his words to register and sink into the boy. He wanted him to stop before jumping head first into this. He shared the same feelings grief and sorrow. The hunter wanted to see justice as well, but knew that if Hades was not in charge and able to rule his home, Lily would just roam free, no matter who stood in her way.

Navarre had just stepped down the hallway, doing his best not to add any more noise to the racket he had already made. He watched as a man exited Katrina's bedroom; the expression he wore looked a little to grim to be a burglar, and he appeared too large to fit the description of the willowy illusionist still loose in the town...

The sound of another's arrival made him spin, he hadn't been paying attention and another man managed to breeze past Navarre and into the other room. As the older man identified the younger as Arthur, he perked up slightly. If this was Artie Hopper, than Katrina must have invited him; Navarre knew that the two worked together occasionally, but then why wasn't she out here, explaining it all to the young elf? He stood where he was for a few more seconds, still tense as he asked the white haired man, "Who are you?"

Before he could be given an answer, however, Artie had emerged from the room, speaking seriously to the other. Police? The Council? What-...Navarre shoved his way past the two men, concern on his face as he realized that they were talking about something having happened to Kat. Within moments he was through the doorway, his eyes landing on the zombie first. Slowly, with a feeling of dread rising further within him, Navarre let his gaze travel to the sheet. He already knew who would be beneath it, but he still found himself kneeling beside it-...no, her.

"K-...Katrina?" his voice was barely above a whisper, hands shaking as he pulled back the sheet to see her face. He sucked in a breath, tears welling up in his eyes as he tried to fathom the truth in front of him. His best friend was dead...Kat was dead and-...and those men were talking. Nothing they said seemed relevant to Navarre as he looked at Katrina. He could see the multiple stab wounds and the lacerations across her face and neck, but nothing was really registering...until one of the men mentioned...Lily. Katrina had told him about the Goddess, a necromancer who was plaguing the town and who Kat had been personally attempting to find a way to remove her from town. But he had never seen this. Yes, the elf had seen death, but nothing so sadistic. It was as if the murderer had had fun, maybe made a game out of it. The thought brought a wave of emotions over Navarre, his eyes welling with tears. Her last moments were probably terrifying, he realized. And despite everything she had done for Janhall and the magical community...nobody had saved her.

Replacing the sheet, he managed to stumble out the room. The smell had overtaken his sense suddenly, and he knew he'd have to help deal with...with whatever happens after situations like this. "I'll call the Council." he heard himself say, but he made no move to do so. Not yet. He sat instead on her couch, his head in his hands as he tried to accept the fact of his friend's death.

Artie Hopper

Artie was silent as Amos spoke to him and put a hand on his shoulder, he had thought he heard a laugh for a moment coming from the man. He stated that he was consumed by anger in grief, which was true, but there was something more to it, but Artie wasn't going to tell the old man. Artie let out a sigh when the male finally finished his rant towards the boy, and it was at this point when he put his hand on Amos and gripped it. This was not a grip a normal person had, and with that, he easily pulled off Amos's hand just as he heard the elf say he'll call the council, though he saw that the elf was sitting on the couch, his head in his hands in grief. The boy then glared up at Amos, "Amos, I'm saying this by order of the town hall, as someone who works for the council, and as Kat's co-worker and friend. Call the police and the council. I am still going because she has something I need to take back. So, back off and get this done, and go fish out Hades!" He stated to Amos, a terrifying anger in his calm voice as the shadow wolf beside him began growling at Amos, unaffected by the aura of his sword. He had to get the charm back immediately or Yukiko would be in danger as well, so he turned and ran out of the apartment, wolf following after him.

Instead of stopping the boy further, Amos simply let him walk away. The mercenary scoffed to himself with his hands on his hips and shaking his head. "By order of the council....heh. Still gets me every time." Amos was a third party in this matter. He had little to no relation with whatever law or government resided in Janhall. He was a mercenary on a personal mission. He wasn't being paid by anyone to stop Lily. The only obligation Amos felt to stopping Lily or obeying anyone's commands was his own sense of morals.

Amos then turned his attention to the elf sitting on the couch, most likely grappling with all that has happen. He needed some kind of comfort to bring him out of the spiral. It may have been rude, but the hunter began searching through the kitchen for a glass, milk, and chocolate syrup. After making the chocolate milk, Amos handed the glass to the elf sitting down. "Here, take this. You must have a lot of questions. I'm guessing Kat was a friend of yours as well. She saved my life twice. I owe her." The hunter then took his place in the armchair adjacent to the couch. "My name is Amos Dugger."

Navarre gave no attention to the other men as he tried to wrap his head around the truth. Katrina was dead. Not just taken by time, or an accident...his best friend had been murdered. And this time, it was a deed that been carried out by somebody he knew nothing about. He couldn't run away from this, like he had in the past. Navarre knew that he had to accept this as the truth...but he really didn't want to.

Hearing the c***k of a glass, Navarre looked over to the man. He was a stranger, he had likely never even been in Katrina's home, but the elf watched as he searched through the kitchen. Arthur had left, determination clear but it was odd, Navarre felt like he wasn't there at all; he was of course, sitting just a few feet away from the kitchen. He stayed silent, letting his gaze wander around the living room as he got lost in his thoughts once more. It was still so quiet, except for the distant sound of fluttering birds outside the window... He found a few moments of peace in that, almost able to forget that he had just seen Kat's mutilated body in the next room. It wasn't until Amos spoke that he looked back over, forcing his attention back to what was happing in reality.

Navarre took the offered glass, but he made no move to drink from it. He knew that it was a gesture meant to comfort him, and so he offered a small nod in thanks. "I'm Navarre." he said softly, his voice quiet as he was finally able to understand how this man was related to Artie and Kat. He refrained from giving his own explanation. It would be too hard to say, even if he could find the words to say anything it all. "Can you get her? The woman who did this?" It was the only question he had, the only thought he had besides Why? Why her? Why now? Why here?

Although he didn't drink the milk, Amos couldn't blame the elf. His friend was dead, and the hunter didn't have much time to play the role of the shoulder to cry on. But, as it turned, Amos might not have to. After introducing himself, Navarre asked the aging mercenary if he was going to get Lily for what she did. "I intend to." His gravelly voice made him seem all the more serious and determined. Lily was his number one priority. She was a deranged killer bent on wiping out all life on earth. The hunter couldn't have that. How else would he make a living? It was his life to chase down criminals, whether they were normal crooks or insane psychopaths. Even supernatural threats like Lily were on his lists.

Amos' words were all he needed to hear from the man. There was something in his tone, a feeling that he really would do all he could to catch the woman. Navarre had been aware of Lily's creatures, but Katrina had done too good of a job keeping him from worrying. His own position on the Council was purely diplomatic. The elf's work was all about dealing with other lands, different cities inside and out of the Veil...Kat's had been about the inner workings of Janhall. She had known that Lily was a far larger threat, but he hadn't...He could help but feel some anger at the matter. He could have helped, he could have done more and then she would be alive...

Navarre looked up from the glass in his hands. He knew he had probably been staring at it for an odd length of time, but he couldn't find any way to care. Instead, he spoke again, his tone holding a hint of renewed determination. "Then do it." Katrina was gone. But he wouldn't let her work be wasted. He had no intention of spending months in mourning...not until her murderer was caught. Then, he could take the time to cry, scream and shout...but now, he had to shove it all down. The man, Amos, seemed like he would do as he said. He had spoken such, his attitude very matter of fact. "I'll deal with the council...the cops should stay out of your way."

The elf sitting across from him seemed to be a brooding mood. It was one Amos was familiar. In a way, it reminded him of his first stood. He was young and brimming with teenage angst and passion. But this was person who had lost their friend, not a teenager whom had lost their way in life. The supernatural hunter stood up and noded back to the elf. Amos typically didn't take orders from any authority, but for Navarre, he'd make exception. "You do that and I'll see to it that Lily has 'cozy' spot next to her tormentors. As for Kat's remains, see to it as she would have prefered." The aging mercenary gave one last gesture before leaving the quiet apartment to meet up with the dragon who would take him to rescue the god of the damned.
