 Snowsong was still in a bit of shock, honestly. When she had woken up that one, life-changing day, she'd expected nothing out of the ordinary. Go for a little walk, stretch her muscles and get a drink. It was probably going to be a lovely one and she and Wintersky had eaten well this week. They could easily go a day without looking for food and just spend time together. She had been planning what they could do when she saw something she had not expected to see, sitting there in a neat line just inside the entrance of their den.
Incense containers. Containers. More than one. More than even two. Six whole containers, lined up and letting out multi-colored smoke from the vents, which got plucked away by the light breezes that lingered at the mouth of the den. They were all sorts of shades of blue, except for one very bright orange, like the color of her hair. Finally she'd unfroze enough to go running back to get Wintersky.
That had been seven days ago. They'd moved the containers into their den and started watching them with hints of anxiety and excitement. Then on the morning on the seventh day after the containers first appeared, she and Wintersky had woken up to a smoke-free smell and six little bodies all curled and draped over them. Wintersky had panicked and ran out of the den to immediately hunt for food, leaving her behind to look after the kids. Wise, given how hungry they all where when they properly woke up, but she'd been a little peeved with him at the time. She watched him playing with most of the kips now, chuckling a little as they practiced their pouncing skills with him as the target. Wintersky rolled around on his back, a couple fuzzy little burrs rolling with him and shrieking in laughter and he laughed along with them. To day he had been surprised when these babies first appeared would be an understatement. He had been completely floored! The wait had been the most nerve-wracking thing he'd gone through in his life. Not even some of the most intense hunts he'd been on had been so intense! Then the kips were there as suddenly and with as little warning as the incense containers had been, and he'd had a brief moment of panic while his brain ran around like a mouse cornered at the bottom of the barrel. There was suddenly so many things he needed to do and he just ran off without really thinking about poor Snowsong and how likely it was she was just as shocked as he! At least returning with several rabbits had mollified her, and it seemed he was forgiven.
He grunted a little as a new ball of fuzz attached itself to him. These kips had so much energy! He didn't remember being this much of a scamp when he'd been their age, though chances were he'd just forgotten. They'd fallen hungrily on the food he'd brought and went right into play mode. Apparently growing up inside an incense container left one with an intense desire to stretch their legs when they got out!

 Frostfire growled playfully in the back of her throat as she pounced on the dark, starry pelt of her "prey" and grabbed a mouthful. Mostly it was nothing but fur, her jaws still too tiny to get a good grip on anything more substantial, but she gave her head a shake filled with enthusiasm regardless. This was so much fun! If she shook hard enough then suddenly something would pick her up by the neck and she went soaring to land softly on some leaves. Then the whole thing could start all over again! Of course there were plenty of other targets to pick from, multi-colored fur bundles her own size all tumbling around here and there. She spotted something black-speckled and decided to pounce on it instead! Silverbird eeked and ran any time any of her siblings tried to pounce on her, but she still laughed and had a lot of fun chasing and being chased, or pouncing on the large presence of her father. Eventually she tired quicker than the others, and trotted away from that pile of energy towards the much calmer beacon of bright blue that was her mother. With a contented sigh she flopped across the bright blue tail and rolled around on it, enjoying the soft fluffy feeling and how pretty the bright blue of her fur was mingled with the dark blue that made up most of her mother's tail.

 Slipstream was dive-bombed by a dark sibling he thought it was Frostfire but she wasn't staying still enough for him to tell so instead of worrying over who it was he just grabbed a mouthful of tail fluff and shook his head like it was prey. After that he spat the offending fluff out and leaped over to attack dad. Dad was so fun. Mom was safe and Dad was fun.And it looked like a sibling had taken shelter with mom. Poor dear, needed to eat more to keep up, he guessed. Slipstream stalked his fathers floofy tail. His blue eyes were locked on the elegant plume and he waited for the opportune time and wiggled his back end cause somehow that made aim better and he leaped...and caught it woooo! Who was the alpha hunter now, who had caught the elusive black tail! He yipped and howled his triumph and joy.

 Silly siblings, Sunstar thought as he stood poised mid crouch, watching his brothers and sisters pouncing each other and their father. They were going about it all wrong. It looked to him like they were just picking random targets, going for whatever moved, or just biting the first piece of father they could get a hold of. They'd never catch prey like that, going for all the fluffy parts. No, there had to be a weakness, a way through the fur. The small orange kip waited for his siblings to move out of the way and then made a dash for his father.
He pounced, landed on his father, and grabbed a mouthful of dark fur on his fathers shoulder. Though he chomped hard and shook his head, fur was all he managed to get.
Drats. He had been so sure he'd found a way through that fur this time. Sunstar rolled off his father and repositioned himself. He was determinded. This time he'd break through that defense of fur for sure!

 Snowstar sat there next to her mother watching the rest of her family. She observed how they bounced each other and what they did. It looked like fun but she wanted to watch more before she joined in. Her eyes traveled over all the different colors of blue and orange that filled the room. Her dark coat made her blend in a bit so she could watch and not be disturbed. Seemed everyone wanted to pounce daddy and chew on his fur. She didn't want to do that or at least not yet. And then she saw two of her brothers acting silly. She grinned and looked between then wondering who she wanted to attack more. She looked at Sunstar and then at Slipstream he looked like he was the most pleased with himself so she decided to pounce on him. She crept forward silently and then leapt at him pouncing on his back and nipped playfully on his ear. Then she rolled off of his and grinned ready to play some more. It really was a lot of fun and now she was ready to join in with all the fun pouncing and such.

"Only one child willing to defend me," Wintersky wailed comically, rolling around as the bulk of his children pounced on him. It wasn't too hard to dodge any attempts to reach parts of him that would actually hurt if they got their sharp little teeth on them. The rest of the damage was just to his fur; he'd have to give it a really good grooming once they all settled down! As each ball of his sons and one of his daughters continued trying to see who could bring down their father, he gently swatting the bright balls of fluff rolling away. It didn't seem to deter them in the least. If anything it seemed to make some of them more determined!Snowsong chuckled at Wintersky's predicament. She could tell he was only pretending. She honestly didn't know who was having more fun at the moment, the little kips or that great big silly one. It seemed after his moment of panic he was adjusting quite well. She carefully settled down, wrapping her bushy tail around Silverbird, who seemed just as content to sit and watch all the antics with her mother.

Frostfire growled in slight frustration. No matter what she did it seemed like it had no effect. She had tried to go for the ears, where the fur was a lot thinner and probably would allow her to get in a proper n**, but her father was far too cunning and agile; she hadn't even been able to come close to his head! She little tail swished back and forth while she considered her next move. Clearly none of the pouncing she was doing was having any effect, nor did her brothers seem to be making much progress. Then it hit her. What if they all attacked together?
"Everyone pile on!" She leapt forward on her father's tail and started chewing at a back leg, hoping her brother's would follow her lead and pounce with her.Silverbird wondered where her siblings got all their energy from. They were certainly a lot more determined that she was! She'd have given up a long time ago. Daddy was just too good at evading their pounces while they were still little. If Mommy had joined in they probably could have taken Daddy down in seconds, but it was more fun to try it on their own. She blinked her large blue eyes sleepily, and for a moment drifted off. She came too with a slight start, not remembering having dozed off. Pouncing was tiring work!

The whole pouncing situation was frustrating, but Sunstar was becoming more determined by the minute. His family was probably the luckiest family of fumes there was since his father seemed to have no weak spots what so ever and moved so fast. Momma was the same way, he was sure, but she wasn't the target currently.
Sunstar was taking aim for his next assault on his father when he heard Frostfire call out. Of course! Separately they weren't enough but together they just might have a chance! Following his sisters lead, Sunstar jumped onto his father. He grabbed a mouthful of fur and clung to his father with his tiny claws, hoping at least one of his siblings could get in a proper bite.

Slipstream let out a warrior cry and attatched himself as best as he could onto his father's head. Giggling madly he had to keep scrambling for a better purchase. "I got him, I got him! You can still breathe right dad?"
