I dunno, Dimmu Borgir have some quite good songs but they aren't exactly the best of death metal bands.

The only Dimmu songs I like are Prodgenies(sp?) of the Great Apocalypse
some of their early material. Everything else bores me.

Gorgoroth kicks the s**t out of Dimmu, Gorgoroth is black metal at its finest.

It isn't necessarily 'pop' but more mainstream-oriented black metal. This is a very common remark I hear of Dimmu Borgir's third album [Enthrone Darkness Triumphant] and the albums proceeding that. To most dedicated listeners of black metal, "For All Tid" and "Stormblast" are the only albums that even closely relate to a pure black metal sound, but even those two albums have their problems of being accepted.

Seeing as how "pop" means "popular" and they are popular black metal, then yes, they are. Although, there are some who would argue that Dimmu Borgir isn't black metal... I went to see them in concert, and they had a giant upside-down cross as a prop in the background, that's pretttyyy BM to me....

Yeah I know what you mean.I love Dimmu Borgir but I think they are like the Backstreet Boys of Black Metal hehehe.and they could have done a tad bit better on the Death Cult album just a bit....hopefully they will make another album like Stormblast! biggrin

Gorgoroth is a wasted plateau in the northern regions of Mordor in Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings." It means approximately (Place of very great) dread. Odd they're using a "Lord of The Rings" reference for being so amazingly Satanic and yes for whoever said it Gorgoroth is so much better then Dimmu Borgir.

Anyways, I'm kind of sick of people saying "OMG!!111!111/// DEMU BORIGR Suks!11!" just because they went mainstream, it's like the Metallica bullshit, it's cool to say Dimmu Borgir sucks and shun them completely because they went a different way, but the fact is even though they did they still have some good songs. I personally love the song "Mourning Palace" and a "Progenies of the Great Apocalypse" and a lot of the album "Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia." When I first listened to it, even though the cd's a cheesewheel of cheese, I thought it was decent and still sometimes is nice to take a spin in my cd player.

Though I really only listen to it anymore for more nostalgic moments of my life I suppose. Of course, I honestly think "For All Tid" was quite the amazing piece of work, and "Stormblast" was sadly a sub-par follow up though still a decent listen, because I still bought it, so it must say something about the album I suppose.

Oh and "Morbid_ Emily" if they did something along the lines of "Stormblast" again I'd be pretty bloody amazed because they've gone way to far off track. They wouldn't make music for the sake of art and music anymore, instead the band is all seemingly there for just pleasing the fans and to make more money because of it.
