I started studying Paganism in January, and everything is so new to me. I was raised an Atheist, and recently I've been realizing that I am in fact spiritual. I very much believe in the Big Bang and evolution.... BUT, I do believe in:
- A spirit world after death. - That we live amongst spirits every day. - The healing energies of crystals, gemstones, etc.
I can somewhat connect to the God and Goddess, but then my previous beliefs push through saying "This is all silly!" and "Gods aren't real!".
I'm not trying to force myself to believe in something, I'm figuring out what my beliefs are. I feel like I definitely found my place, but I'm just exploring now. My Atheist mindset is so drilled into me, I feel like it's impossible trying to connect with the God and Goddess. I also know that I'm only 17, and a lot of shows and movies tend to influence teens and give them a "witch or wicca phase", but I can assure you this is definitely not the case.
Since I've been having so much trouble connecting to the God and Goddess, I'm wondering if I end up not being able to that I can be Pagan and not believe in a deity? That probably sounds completely absurd, but I'm very knew to everything. I feel like Witchcraft is what defines what I believe in the best, but I'm not sure.
Any help? >.<
.... I hope that my explanation wasn't too confusing D: I'm all over the place... emotion_bigvein

You kept saying the god and goddess. Which ones?
And there are a number of religions out there that are atheistic. Don't try to force yourself to believe in something just because religion x says you have to. Just find a different one. I would suggest ENP but that brings me to my next thing.
Witchcraft isn't necessarily a religion. It's a secular practice and you don't have to be Pagan to do it. If you feel like you are a witch then go for it. You can figure out the religion stuff out later. While a few of us here do incorporate witchcraft into their religious practice not all of us do.

I'm not trying to force myself, I'm just trying to figure out what my true beliefs are. I think I did realize where my path is, and it's with Witchcraft. I do not believe in deities, but I do believe in spirits. So, in a way I'm a spiritual atheist...if that's the term. Witchcraft, from what I've researched, just feels like it fits with me best. Thanks for the help c: I apologize for my ignorance, this is all very new to me. sweatdrop

I didn't have time to read it over to get the tone right. I tend to type it out, read it over, change wording if it sounds too harsh when it comes to longer posts. There's no need to apologize for being new. Usually those who are new end up stumbling across the information that you did. That witchcraft itself is a ditheistic nature worshiping religion. And in that information the person passing it along will pass with it the soft polytheistic overarching God and Goddess. Sometimes a person will already have a pair of deities in mind as well but only refer to them as the God and Goddess. Figuring out your "true" beliefs can take years. Which is fine. They may also change. Which is fine. People are not static. And I see nothing wrong with calling yourself a spiritual atheist. Atheist just means you don't believe in deity(ies).

At this stage, if you feel you can't connect with any deities, then don't try too hard - let it come naturally. Just leave that thought to sit for a little while and you will eventually come back to it with a clearer mind.
I myself believe in many deities and I wish to work with quite a few, but I know I'm not ready for that at the moment and so I do not worry too much about specifically worshipping them. I will come to it when I feel ready. But hey, if for some reason one decided I was ready before I realised it, then they may take action and start poking me.
