Feeling my way through the darkness, guided by a beating heart. I can't tell where the journey will end, but I know where to start.
They tell me I'm too young to understand. They say I'm caught up in a dream. Well life will pass me by if I don't open up my eyes. Well that's fine by me.
Maymarie watched the little metallic creature in silence as it stood in front of her without a word. Though his words, when he did speak, were confusing to her at first, she listened as he went on to clarify his previous statement and though she slightly disagreed and even went as far as plotting to borrow a few of his books, just to see what he was hiding, but she didn't say anything to the automaton. Her hands itched to see the gears beneath the metal shell and how they worked, how they spoke and what that red, blinking light meant. But she kept them still by gripping her small tinkering screwdriver tightly in her palms.
May didn't say anything in the moments of silence that once more stretched between her and the being that was almost eye level from her seated position until it began to speak once more. Her curiosity was firing behind her deep blue eyes as she listened intently to what the machine said about her past actions, even if he did ask for her qualifications, it turned out that they were not needed. A pointless question then... The machine went on about a body she was to take care of, which made her tilt her head to the side, but she would find out soon enough.
At the last sentence, Maymay nodded her head and turned away from the mechanical creature to her toolbox where she placed her tool back in it's place and grabbed her bag. She had no other clothing, only her toolbox which held extra wires and the tools and other things she needed to fix herself up should some need arise. May didn't look at the man who picked up the automaton and spoke to her, but she followed his instructions without question.
Maymarie knew her place and though she was, at times, a bit spirited, she knew her position. Her only real fear was not being able to learn, not being able to read, or sate the burning curiosity that twinkled behind her intelligent midnight pools. She carried her toolbox with one hand, though it must have weighed around fifty to seventy pounds as she followed the man down to the lobby area where she was paid for and then led out to a black car with tinted windows. She stayed silent the whole way to the plane, not speaking to the man, not because she was uncomfortable but because she had no words that needed to be said.
Time slid by in silence until they reached the jet plane, a big metal bird looking thing that also begged her to take it apart. She tightened her grip on her toolbox enough that the metal handle gave a slight groan before she lightened her hold for fear of breaking her only possession. Her old master's home had no modern mechanics other than those he created, which weren't many. He'd always said that she had been his greatest masterpiece. 'Mixing the human body with mechanical strength and speed, infusing muscle, strengthening bone, and proving that metal and flesh could be melded to make a perfect being.' His words played in her mind, a familiar and comforting tune that she remembered often and fondly.
Shaking the thoughts from her head, she boarded the plane and listened to the man once more as he instructed her to get comfortable and call if she needed anything. May watched as he disappeared before she took a seat on the bed. As they flew to their destination, wherever it was, she called on the man only a few times, for something to eat or drink and to ask where the restroom was. They landed after dark, which she didn't mind. She'd been asleep when roused from her slumber to get off the plane and into another car. She listened again to the man as he spoke, and though she was a bit confused as to why they'd be parting ways, she said nothing to the man, only nodded that she'd understood his words.
Maymarie let him escort her from the vehicle as her eyes searched out the lines of the building in the dark night, but couldn't really find much information about what awaited inside for her. No windows to see into the interior of her alternate prison, or to see out of once she was in. As she approached the doors, no fear showing on her face though her mind was whirling with hesitance, fear and ever raising curiosity, the blue light that emanated from within made her a bit more uncomfortable as she shifted lightly from one foot to the next before she stepped into the building.
The man's words were almost ignored as her eyes looked around, sharp intellect taking inventory of the hallway. However, the door shutting and the sound of a lock sliding hard into place made her turn her head to see the opening that was once present was gone. She gulped slightly in uncertainty as she turned to look forward once more. Maymay was alone now, even if she didn't feel like she was. She felt like she was being watched, a creeping feeling that made the hairs on the back of her neck rise and her ears and eyes become extra sensitive as she waited for something, anything, to appear.
Her delicate hands gripped the toolbox's handle as she slowly began to move further into her new prison.
Sorry if it's kind of crappy and for taking so long with it.

naaaah, all good! we should do some plotting : D!
The light from outside pooled only briefly into the first room. It was impressive at best but no where near homely. It was not like walking into a home but into a mechanical box or engine. The hall was brief and only went about twenty feet before it hit a large machine with no displays of any kind to be seen. It sat on the ground with only enough room from its top to the ceiling for a man to stand with a bent back. It's sides and back were pressed against the walls and concealed. It hummed lowly and seemed to thrum in the air but its purpose was unknown. The shaft of light illuminated this and made the rest of the room appear darker and less distinct. As the door shut behind her, the room only briefly went dark. But it wasn't long for the light of the machines surrounding to illuminate the room with their light. The light was no longer yellow but predominantly blue. It made the place seem dim and the corners dark.
The first room had little place to move around though the left several steps in was another corridor. This was much emptier and much like the other room hadn't been well taken care of. Dusty lay on every surface and a few lights had gone out on the ceiling. It was very obvious there was nothing living here. If there was, it did not come through here at all. It was very quiet with only the hum, creaking, and buzzing of mechanical devices and the occasional whir or clicking from a panel on the wall. The air was cool and almost cold from vents in the floor that hummed from the air conditioning system. Something obviously necessary for a place so filled with computers and other devices. Lights blinked slowly while others remained still. Where she passed, those lights seemed to stop blinking and remain a steady glowing light. Grates creaked under weight but held firm and when some monitors were passed they flickered to life then would shut off again.
A few hallways broke off this main hall with a glowing red light flicking on when she appeared. Possibly motion activated. The other halls were dark though the main one continued on beneath the dim lights around a bend. Eventually this led to a set of doors with no discernible handle or other means to get in. Another set of red lights would blink to life when approached but otherwise nothing. There was a sliding panel next to the door with a series of numbers that likely needed a code to activate the door. However, the red lights blinked off and the doors opened suddenly. At first there were no lights in the room except a single one in the middle. However, pale blue lights began to light up around revealing a far more sophisticated and state-of-the-art technology with its sleek design. The rest of the building had likely been quickly constructed by spare parts and was not well maintained. This one, however, was obviously meticulously cared for though dust also lingered on every surface here as well.
"I would allow you a further tour though that can come at a later time," a voice said suddenly. It was the same voice as before with its level voice of obviously mechanical construction. It did not come from a person's mouth or at least was prerecorded and played again by another device. It seemed to come, though, from a speaker on the wall. If it was a speaker, though, several other vents throughout the building also served this purpose. The source, however, was unknown. A light blinked on next to the speaker as the voice came again. "This room you should grow used to. We have already met so I shall not introduce myself. The object of your attention, however, I suppose you should see."
Another light glowed to life and so did others to reveal a bed in the center of the room. It was flat and did not look all that comfortable. It could lower and raise at will with a sliding glass covering to conceal what could disappear beneath. What that something was lay on top and was no longer frozen within. He appeared to be no more than twenty with pale, nearly white, blonde hair. His face was clean-shaven though it was beginning to grow stubble. Strange unless someone was shaving him or he hadn't been growing hair there for some time. His eyes were closed and he was obviously unconscious. His skin showed signs of not having seen the sun for a very long time and though relatively healthy in appearance, he was quite slender with cheeks only partially hollow. It was fed with needed nutrients so he was only partially underweight. Not a healthy weight. Dark circles ringed under the eyes and lips were slightly parted as if only sleeping. The chest rose and fell shallowly - definitely alive. But his body was also hooked up to the bed he lay upon including several tubes and a mask over his face to feed oxygen to the lungs. It was partially stained that looked suspiciously like blood. It was also clear the body was suffering from neglect. There were some sores where it touched the hard, illuminated surface and around the face where the mask rested. A monitor at the side of the bed read continuously scrolling lines of data and the one next to it the heartbeat. It made no sound. The only sound was the rasping of the ventilator.
"I greet you. If I can call this myself any longer. It has been some time since I have functioned with flesh and blood and seen with my own eyes. Nor spoken with those lips. As it is, and since it is important to your duties here, I, the one you shall call master, do not exist in this body and haven't for a significant amount of time. Because of its disability to function without support, I have set to searching for a means of returning it to full functioning ability. I could not do so as it steadily deteriorated. Now, my mind and consciousness have become connected to what you see around you. Your duty is to care for it while I continue my research and experiments. Otherwise all other time is your own and to do with as you wish. As long as you do not interfere with what is mine here, I do not care. You cannot leave this place, however, for it is to be kept utterly private. The moment you leave is the moment I run the risk of having any information exposed. No, not until I am able to regain use of this body. But not now."
He fell silent again and the light clicked off. This was only for a few moments for it clicked on again. "As a prior warning, because I am as I am, I do not sleep the same as you do. I am very aware of all that happens so trying to act without my knowledge anywhere here is impossible. I have eyes and ears everywhere. Simply, I can call everything around you me. Anything you need I can provide to the best of my ability so there is no need to seek me out. I am always listening to answer." The respirator paused in its rasping momentarily and the light next to the speaker went out again. The scrolling line of information quickened though the chest continued to rise and fall again. "It grows functional again," he said suddenly. "It simply is not directly aware. Not everything is fully functional yet so do not fear what it does. It will never, though, awaken. Do you have any questions? Otherwise I will show you to where you will be staying."
