As it has been pointed out around the web, there are some glaring plot holes in homestuck. I thought it would be really fun to speculate on those and maybe fill em in with head canon smile

To start, I'd like to talk about the ectobiological birth of the Alternian trolls and their ancestors. I find it hard to fit in the usual method of retroactive, paradox child birthing with what's normal for troll birth and early life.

Hypothesis 1: Karkat was the one in his team responsible for the ectobio stuff, and creating all twelve trolls and all twelve of their ancestors from paradox slime. So he pulls in some slime for all twelve ancestors, then half the slime makes ancestor grubs and the remaining slime in the twelve compartments group into six pairs and the pairs mix together and separate into the twelve who are our current beloved trolls.

So now, we have little grubs that not only have actual direct parents, but they also have blood siblings, all of which is highly unusual for trolls. Who do you think mixed with who to create which trolls? Which trolls are blood siblings?

Buuuut..if that were the case, then I think the current trolls would be more likely to possess mixed characteristics of their "parents." As it is, each troll has an ancestor who shares the exact same personality traits and physical characteristics (blood color, horn shape) as the current troll. Leading me to-

Hypothesis 2: Instead of the remaining paradox slime mixing to create the current trolls after creating the ancestors, I think it is more likely that the slime gathered from the each ancestor made two grubs. E.G: Mindfang's slime created both grub Mindfang and grub Vriska. Therefore, each troll is an exact genetic clone of their ancestor. Differences in personality could be accounted for by differences in nurturing, as their nature is the same. No one has two parents and no one has any siblings, but still highly irregular.

Then there's an issue of the grubs getting their lusi. each grub was sent back on a meteor. So they missed out on the entire maturation process every other grub undergoes (unless the meteors penetrated to the center of Alternia, unlikely since that would have probably killed the Mother grub and also meteors don't typically make it that far). No pupation in the center of Alternia, no having to face the trials on the caverns with the other young trolls. This would explain how even the ones that probably would have been culled while young or not survived the trials (here's looking at you Tavros) made it to adolescence. But, they would have also missed the part where a troll gets a lusus. Lusi don't care for grubs. The wigglers would have been eaten long before something sympathetic came along and helped them grow. How did all 24 survive and get paired with lusi. Did some kind young troll like Kanaya come along and care for them?

So yeah, that's my thoughts. Sorry it's so long, i guess I was channeling Kankri for a minute (read: an hour). ^u^ Go forth and speculate!

But Karkat DID make all 24 trolls via ectoshit. we don't know who he tried to appearify to get the slime, but he was the one to do it. And then, you know, yada yada meteor s**t happened.

That, in turn, dumped them whenever. The scratch, had a lot to do with s**t, which is why the Alternia and Beforus trolls are so different. Even so, on Alternia, just because they are basically clones/sons/daughters/siblings of each other doesn't mean they would have the same personality. Look at John and Jane, or Rose and Roxy. They're made from the same slime, but different.

WEIRD PLOT s**t: On topic, I always had the thought of the Sprites from the Beta kids being seen as errors in the Alpha session, since they weren't created in that game. I was reading a fanfic where the Sprites ended up getting turned back into humans, and then they had to change their names because, you know, there was already a Dave and Jane.

As for an actual plot hole, how did the Condense know where/when John and Jade's ship was going to arrive? I want to assume Lord English, but... its very fishy.

I think there might be some confusion. The fact that Karkat was the one doing the ectocrap wasn't really a point I was trying to argue about; that's definitely fact. The point i think was up for debate was whether he mixed slime from two different ancestors to make two session trolls (for example: mixed the Dolorosa's slime and Mindfang's slime to get Vriska and Kanaya, the same way Mom Lalonde's and Bro's slime was mixed to make babies Dave and Rose). Or did he pull slime from Mindfang and use that slime alone to make both grub Mindfang and grub Vriska. Paradox slime pulled from one person is enough to make two babies, so i was just blathering on about how that might work.

I don't even really wanna touch the differences between the alpha and beta trolls/kids. Differences in growing up are bound to make different personalities from the same starting material.

The sprite stuff sounds really interesting. Did they separate back into the different things they were made of? Like did Davesprite separate into a crow and alternate Dave? Since the sprites are weirdly connected to the medium and the session, it does make sense that it would do something like that. Kinda like a body rejecting foreign cells.
