Route Lanare runs South from Masu City through a Grassland. The massive Harwood Forest the entire length of the Route to the West and can easily be reached from the Route. The Eastern side of the road is bordered by a stretch of steep cliffs.

Sukotto and Metsuki have started looking for Pokemon on Route Lanare. They only have time to capture one Pokemon each before nightfall and they may pass on their first two encounters each if they don't wish to capture either of them. If they don't try to capture the third kind of Pokemon they see, they will lose their chance to capture anything for the day.

Metsuki will take his three chances first.

The wind was even stronger out on the grasslands. Without the buildings and trees holding it back it was free to travel over the open area in full force. Metsuki allowed himself to get lost in his thoughts for a moment before continuing on. He needed to find some new Pokemon to bolster his team. Chidori on his own wasn't going to be enough to challenge a Gym leader. He began to check the terrain to see if he could spot any nearby Pokemon.

As Metsuki ventured down Route Lanare, he would see two orange and blue Pokemon eating some Oran berries. They appeared to naturally have some sort of yellow collar around their necks.

Metsuki sat and stared at the weasel-like Pokemon for a short while. It didn't appear to be that powerful, but perhaps given some time it would prove more than meets the eye? It was a difficult choice whether to try and capture or not. The sun was getting low and he was running out of time.

He decided to keep on moving and take his chances with a different Pokemon.

A lone yellow fluffy Pokemon was next in line, grazing on some of the lush green grass of Route Lanare.

The sheep Pokemon stared at Metsuki with a blank expression on its face. It didn't seem to care that he was standing there observing it. It quietly munched away on the grass in front of it and all the while Metsuki couldn't shake the feeling that it would be a welcome addition.

Nevertheless he left it alone and continued walking. The Pokemon didn't even seem to notice that he had gone.

Three strange looking red and white Pokemon seemed to be dancing around one another in what seemed to be a game of tag. They didn't take notice of Metsuki, as they were too distracted with each other.

Metsuki shrugged and looked at Sukotto. "Looks like I am not getting a Pokemon today. You're up." he said as he sat down in the warm grass. Perhaps he should have tried for one of the earlier Pokemon, but life as a trainer is usually a gamble. Sometimes you get lucky and other times, like this time, you don't. He'd have to try again tomorrow and see if he could find something a little more interesting.

Sukotto closed his eyes, smiled, and scratched the back of his head. His new partner had passed up not one, but two different kinds of Pokemon that had decent potential. The Viridian wondered what sort of Pokemon Metsuki had that made him feel confident enough to do so. Perhaps he already owned both of those kinds of Pokemon. Either that, or the man was just too darn picky; or crazy."Sounds good to me, I'll start looking around!" With that, Sukotto began his turn checking around Route Lanare for any sign of wild Pokemon that he could add to his family.

The Viridian would stumble across a pack green, canine Pokémon with yellow markings. There were five in total and they seemed to be looking for smaller prey.

The young man began to understand Metsuki's reasoning a little better when he saw the pack of.... Electrite, according to his Pokedex, whose bright screen lit his face in a bluish white hue. It seemed to be a solid Pokemon for the most part, but the trainer was determined to show his new found human companion that he wouldn't settle for anything less than an elite Pokemon. So he decided to continue his search, hoping to spot something with a little more bite.

A large collection of purple serpentine Pokémon were lounging on a large, flat rock painted in the orange sunlight of the receding evening sky. There were five of them in total.

Post Mood

Upon seeing the purple serpents, a violent shiver slithered its way up Sukotto's spine, seemingly entering his mind as his surroundings began to darken and blur. Images of a dark room within the Viridian Gym began to flash before of his eyes. There was a single hanging light that illuminated only the center of the space, making it seem as though there weren't any walls and the dark void stretched outwards infinitely. Only shadowy figures were visible at the point where the light began to significantly fall off, and Sukotto was among these figures.

The physical build of a man was strapped to a chair directly under the light, his face too brightly lit for Sukotto to tell if he was familiar. Instead of regular cloth or even metal bindings holding the man in place, a long and scaly purple tail entwined itself with his limbs and the chair. The tail wrapped itself from the man's feet, up around his waist and arms, with the final loop tight around his neck. The grasp of the tail was so firm that the exposed parts of the man's skin were chafed and bleeding from prolonged rubbing against the purple scales. A slender purple face lingered dangerously close to the bound man's eyes, occasionally dabbing the sweat from his cheek with a forked tongue. Sukotto refused to look into the eyes of the creature, but couldn't manage to steer his gaze away from its pair of shining white fangs that reflected the light.

The Viridian trainer heard a muffled voice speaking to the man. It was soft and almost taunting at first. Afterwards, the man in the chair attempted to respond but choked on his words. The muffled voice grew louder and more demanding, pounding against Sukotto's ears and causing them to twitch. He noticed the head of the purple tail raise itself higher into the air, the fangs so bright that the young trainer had to squint for a moment. One of the shadowy figures snapped their fingers and without warning the purple head lunged towards the bound man's neck, burying its fangs deep within his flesh. Sukotto gasped and quickly looked away, in the direction of the one with the muffled voice. They had turned their back to the bound man who was now gurgling and thrashing about. Against the outline of the muffled figure's back, Sukotto could only see a bright red R stitched onto their clothing.

The cool evening wind brushed against the already cold sweat lingering on Sukotto's face, causing another shiver and snapping him from his trance. His hand was already tightly grasping the single Pokeball that was clasped to his belt, causing his knuckles to shift to white. The trainer's eye sockets had grown dark and he spoke in a low voice to Metsuki. "This is going to be a very tough fight against five of them. I wouldn't hold it against you if you kept your Pokemon back for this one."

Sukotto Battle Theme

With that, the Viridian hurled his Pokeball a couple of meters in front of the group of serpents. "Now's our chance, Koku," he whispered to himself. "Changing the world so places like that will never have a chance to exist again...." An enormous rock-skinned serpent burst forth from Sukotto's Pokeball, violently shaking the ground as it landed. It released a monstrous roar in the direction of the five purple serpents, which would likely disturb their relaxation time in a major way.
