I'm curious about how much research people do for their story.
Like I'm doing my Kingdom hearts story (feel like a broken record talking about it sweatdrop ) and I was all over the wiki's making sure I get each one of the ORG 13 members just right. Like how though hes the enemy Xigbar tells Sora and the others clue to what they are looking for, but in a cryptic way. Luxord uses gambling puns and speaks in a strange way like saying "artistic proofs" which just means making a statement.
I know there are people who just know how the characters would react but I'm still curious.
So how far do you go to make sure your canon characters are in character? (if they are supposed to be)

Not enough biggrin I write a lot of video game fanfics, so I generally play through the game when I'm in the planning phase. But I end up winging most of it because of changes I've made. Then I make errors that people point out; in my Pokémon stories, it's nearly always something 'technical', like misinterpreting a move or missing gender restrictions. Latest one was having a male Flabebe, which I ended up keeping because I find some gender restrictions nonsensical.
In most cases, I won't care about small details. But I do check out wikias, fan speculation, faqs, text/script dumps, LPs, and discussion topics for ideas on scenes and characterization. And TVtropes is good too; I once wrote a short story based primarily on stuff I found in a fridge horror/brilliance section there.
And don't worry about sounding like a broken record. That kind of thing happens when you're focused on a particular story. Better that you're trying to think it through thoroughly. 3nodding If you got me talking, I'd refer to either my Pokémon X/Y fic (see above) or the Star Ocean 2 fic, since I'm bouncing between both.

So in a sense I have two stories almost going on at the same time. One in my head and the one in my head going down on electronic paper lol
