Very few cars are on the highway because petroleum is extremely expensive.

Dear my love..
Highway patrol used to be an entertaining thing to do so many years ago. When people had first invented automobiles and everyone rushed to buy one. Now? It was as empty as her coin purse. Her shoes softly trudged across the ground on the nearly quiet freeway. She came here to investigate a possible clue to the dreaded Rebellion. However, this highway actually stretched rather far. Was she supposed to search the entire place?
A deathly cold wind blew, scattering the ghastly smells of the leftover litter by lazy people. The once gentle, kind woman scowled. She was half-tempted to find the culprit of the litter and teach them a lesson that would make them cry for weeks. However, the person was probably long gone. The crystals on her staff rang as she adjusted her grip on her staff. Well, since she was here, why not clean up the hellish crap? Or perhaps, she can scare some unlucky passerby to clean up. Wait no, that would be overstepping her boundaries as an agent right? Seryn shook her head, feeling the paper she kept in her pocket brushed against her side.
Alan. she thought sadly. She could imagine the little boy she once remembered, barely looking the appearance of ten. If he was alive and by her side, what would he think of these dreaded people? How can she leave once a beautiful world in such a state? Seryn narrowed her empty, hazed eyes as the familiar spark of rage and inhumane hatred for the Rebellion grow in her. I swear my son, this will be fixed. she promised. "I'll take care of them myself for you." she whispered aloud.
You've gone much farther... too far.

Rein walked along the interstate sidewalk looking down at the ground, making a more dramatic lunge when it came to some form of ungodly amounts of trash, "In all of there right minds, people should pick up after themselves." His accent slightly following behind each word. As he walked along he coughed a few times, "Damn virus..." He would mumbled as he placed his hand to his mouth. Why couldn't the world just go back to it's happy little bundle of joy? Where there were still happy things and not so much death? Lucius seemed to cause nothing but hell for all of those around them. And even for his followers he was sure they didn't completely agree with his actions. Coughing again Rein shook his head pulling his hand away from his lips.
Blood, it puddled onto his hands. This virus they had released into the air wasn't good. Not one bit. However it was something that he could live through with no sweat. He grimaced however then wiped his hand on his shirt, "Damn." He repeated then continued forward stepping over a tipped over barrel that held what looked like oil. Maybe they were planning to burn this place down? Highly unlikely it would have worked though.

Dear my love..
Seryn sighed, listening to the sounds of the disappearing city. More cars continued to rush by, never stopping to look at the desolate landscape. A grim smile came across her face, pitying the silly young humans. They rush through their lives, not bothering to try to find the beauty of the world. After all, their lives were so short. Plus, the various gases didn't help much more. Suddenly, her lungs seemed not to grab for the air as they usually did. A strangled gasp spilled out before she began to violently cough. Was this newest gas, called who-knows-what, going to hinder her?
However, another cough reached her ears. Seryn instinctively turned her head towards the source. Her calloused hands gripped tighter on the long staff, bracing for a possible enemy. Seryn slowly took slow steps as quietly as possible. However, her long, golden-white hair was sadly not the most easy thing to hide. After all, .t reached well down to her knees and the surroundings themselves did not help to contribute because of their darker hues. Finally, she saw a figure in the distance. She squinted her eyes but nearly stopped in her tracks. For a moment, she thought she saw someone else. Someone who she wished to be by her side again.
Then, her typical behavior came out more. What the heck was a boy doing here especially during an investigation? She frowned, deciding it would be best to most likely ask this person to move. However, what if this person was a Rebel? Various questions came to her head. Finally a decision was made: removing the possible threat came first. She walked over, recalling the orders for any suspicious personas. "You there!" she said in a commanding yet scratchy voice. "What are you doing here?" Dammit, this new virus may be more than a nuisance if her voice sounded like this! How could she make reports if she is going to sound like a frog in a couple of hours?
You've gone much farther... too far.

Rein coughed a few more times before turning his head slightly hearing someone call out to him. Had he been tress passing on private grounds? Hell, everywhere he could be considered trespassing for no reason. Everywhere had been Lucius' territory. He wiped his mouth before turning to see a pale haired female. Blinking a couple times he was a bit lost for words. As if he hadn't spoke to anyone since this little dilemma occurred many years ago. Clearing his throat he stood straight up in the most proper posture he could, "Ahem, Rein Kemuri. Heir to the Kemuri throne... Or at least was..." He frowned slightly remembering the exact day he was sent to exile after helping many prisoners escape from the dungeon that lay under his father.
Examining the female she noticed she seemed to be a bit weaker due to the illness, such as himself. He lifted his hands showing he was no threat, "I'm sorry if I'm in the wrong area at the wrong time but I'm searching for supplies." Though it probably wouldn't have been very convincing since the way he stepped over trash. But how was he to blame? It had been the way he was raised for years. Proper and clean, though he regretted it and would much rather have spent his time with the other children playing in the parks and mud.

Dear my love..
Seryn walked up, eyes still narrowed suspiciously. She had no idea what this kid was about, but he certainly reminded her of the last flower shop down the street. It was so fragile but quickly overtaken by the surrounding industry and left the shopkeeper to die of hunger. Wait no- was it sickness? Either way, the widow had a feeling that he was not around here. It was only further proven when the boy finally introduced himself, despite it only being practically a couple of seconds. Though, quite obviously, Seryn had not been expecting this.
Kemuri? Where on Earth was that again? Well... that wasn't a country. However, the last name was strange. Sounded like something more Asiatic to her. Finally, the old lady finally realized. This boy was most likely from the Europe... Was it England or France? Quite obviously, Seryn did not have the faintest idea neither of the empire names nor last names of the royals. They almost blended together in the mage's ears so... it was difficult to pinpoint. However, either way, this person could be lying. Seryn did not show any sign of respect, merely twirling her staff between her fingers. "Heir to THE Kemuri throne?" she repeated skeptically.
Seryn felt a nerve twitch in her eyebrow. Had he not read the sign back... The Rank member turned her head to the sign that could possibly be up. However, it was gone. Did a Rebel take it? She put a hand to her temple, trying to keep her patience as much as possible. This person came first. He seemed harmless... but every Rebel may act like this before attacking unjustly with a knife hidden! "You are forgiven, child. However, if you are searching for supplies, you are heading the wrong way."
You've gone much farther... too far.

Rein nodded. Did she not believe him? True most people wouldn't have considering the matter at hand. Turning to glance as she did looking for something, a sign perhaps stating clearly no tresspassing? He hadn't seen one coming here, then again he was half oblivious to everything around him at time. Coughing once then clearing his throat he nodded once more, "Indeed, Heir to the Kemuri riches. Though, possibly not anymore for my father has more interest in most ladies around him aside from my mother." He frowned slightly. His father was what some might call, a disgusting pig. A man who would sleep with any woman he got his hands on.
Rein shuddered at the thought, "He probably has another son- or daughter by now that he's writing his will out to." Shrugging it off he looked out to the nearby city. He then turned his attention back to the girl. She didn't seem like a threat to him, then again it could have been all an act. He nodded once he had been forgiven, however child? He smiled a bit awkwardly then rubbed the back of his head, "Oh, I had no idea." He said then gave a closed eyed smile in the same awkward way, "I don't exactly know where I'm going quite yet you see, I have no sense of direction..." He chuckled then realized, "I never caught your name Miss-"

Dear my love..
Seryn remained silent, thinking quickly. This person was apparently the heir to the riches and got sent away. He was cluesless of how to be here. However, Rein seemed sincere at the very least. Besides, what kind of advantage can he hold against her? After all, she was trained to fight against bloody-thirsty rebels who wants to take the government who was at the very least keeping the order in this dark world. The tiniest frown came across her face when Rein mentioned about his unlucky parentage. Seryn never had such a problem like that, but she definitely had seen it. Most of them went unwell by what she recalled. "I suppose you have to do your best to persuade him otherwise then." she said, not giving the slightest change to by symapthetic or even pitying.
Seryn tightened her hands on her staff. Alan would be probably around this kid's age had he not disappeared. Were the gods now taunting her by sending this kid her way? The golden colored beads on the crest of the staff made a clink sound, like tiny bells. Was this supposed to be some kind of new method by the Rebels to find more weaknesses of the Ranks? She wasn't sure herself, but could the Rebels have pinned more information of her loyalty to the Ranks? Then again, speaking she's been with them for so long already. It shouldn't be that surprising. "You missed the ideal place a couple of blocks back." she explained, her voice brittle as she tried to normal as possible yet most definitely failing.
The question for her introduction was common. Seryn was however surprised at the "Miss" title. The ring on her fourth finger seemed to turn impossibly cold. She was married. YES. But her significant other? Far away. Gone. "Mrs." she corrected, eyes darkening for a moment. "Mrs. Seryn Sanoira, Prince Rein Kemuri."

Rein shrugged softly, " Eh, so be with his disgusting habits, the old guy could turn over in his grave when he's dead and I wouldn't give a damn." It was true, he could care less what happened That poor b*****d. His mother on the other hand would be the one he would care most about, she raised him up to be what he was now, "I'm sorry, I shouldn't be dumping y issues onto you." He rubbed the back of his head while lowering it as well. Perhaps he shouldn't have been to open with a lady he had barely met.
Raising his head once more hearing the small chime like sounds coming from the staff she held, "Such a beautiful color, not to mention sound." He thought out loud then looked back to her as she spoke, "Oh, damn." He grumbled. Twin knew he should have a left instead of a right back at the fork in the road. He also noticed her tone seemed to change, "Are you alright? Am I making you feel uncomfortable?" He asked taking a couple steps back.
He swallowed his tongue hearing her tone turn sharp with the correction. Withdrawing he pulled his hands together with a bow, " My apologies, I didn't know." Slowly rising. Hearing her name however he felt a bit more at ease, "It's a pleasure to meet you Seryn, I apologize once more for the mistake." Hearing her address him by his full title he shook his head, "Please just Rein. I'm not one for formal labels."

Dear my love..
Although Rein most likely had the right to insult his father to such extremes, it made Seryn feel the tiniest bit sad. Surely every parent would feel the tiniest amount of obligation to their child? Or surely, wouldn't the child feel the smallest amount of loneliness of leaving their parent? However, she had nor right to judge; She was an outsider to this after all. She swiftly shook her head, reassuring him. "Apology accepted. Every person needs a person to vent on eventually." she replied.
Seryn felt mild skepticism of this boy surviving in this city for much longer grow. Why did he suddenly focus on her staff? She was almost half-tempted to probably give him the basics. She coughed slightly into her fist, annoyed the virus may be getting thicker around than ever. Perhaps she should visit a place to make sure she won't get anything worse. "I'm alright." she said after her slight coughing fit. "It's just that.." Then again. Rein had given a bit too much about himself. Perhaps the small return of backstory may help. "You just look like the age my son would have looked." she replied.
"Of course you didn't know." she replied dismissively. However, she just wanted to get the point across before false pretenses may happen. Plus, the title meant so much to her.... giving her the incentive to keep on moving with her life for the sake of the lost. "Rein.." she repeated, trying the name for herself. "What a peculiar name."

Rein shrugged, "Still, I thank you for listening but I shouldn't have dumped in on you, I put others before myself, Not myself before others." He chuckled. Yes his father was an a*****e, but it wasn't something he liked to get into. Rein knew there were other people like that in the world, Royalty or not.
Rain took a moment after she had spoke to walk over and retrieve a smaller barrel that had also been holding a type of oily substance. Rolling it over to her, then lifting off the lid he removed one of his gloves at well. Pointing his hand down into the barrel palm down, a small flame managed to conjure up. Taking his hand back then placing the glove on once more he watched as the fire seemed to grow. Maybe it would dilute some of the virus that was in the air? Rein looked back up as Seryn started to speak once more. "Your son?" He asked almost immediately growing quiet once more not only before speaking up again, "Would have looked?" He repeated in a more questioning manor, "What happened?" If she didn't want to tell him, it was understandable, he wouldn't press the matter.
Rein smiled hearing her call him just by his name, "Thanks, as I had gotten older I thought it was a little strange, but then again, it's out of the ordinary." He chuckled sitting on a cement block near the fire as it blazed onward.

Dear my love..
A short silence escaped from Seryn as Rein decided to roll a smaller barrel of oil. She raised an eyebrow until he created a flame to start a small fire. Seryn flinched in shock, since well... fire and oil weren't always the best of combinations. As the fire crackled and began to feed on the oil, it created a brighter light. With the now illuminated surroundings, Seryn was now to have a better look at him. He certainly was a child (well... on the young adult-barely passing teenager) scale in her head. It was almost disorienting because she rarely saw children let alone teenagers as often; They often hid away to survive from the gases or avoid people liker her: associates of the Ranks.
"Yes, my son." she answered, eyes closing for a moment to imagine her son's face. He would be an adult now, had he lived. Most likely with a significant other and even possible with children. How funny it turned out now... because he was most likely gone. "He... he disappeared when he was a child." she explained shortly. She didn't much else, deciding that was enough. After all, most youngsters (or just plain adults) had enough imagination to decide for themselves what happened. The worst they could claim was that her son was dead. And most likely? That this guess is true. Either way, it made her want to kill the Rebels and let them suffer what she had to suffer for hundreds of years.
"However, it sounds like a noble name." Seryn relented. "It would be a name one could give to a strong warrior or person. Maybe that is why you were given such a strange name."

Rein watched the fire as it seemed to dance and rise with the oil in it. It seemed to remind him of when the time was not so hard as it was now. When the sky could shine with the bright sun, and the surroundings with there beautiful colors and hues. Not a monochromatic scale of greys to white, no. But a wonderful color pallet. Shaking his head and returning to reality he turned to her as she began to speak again.
Her son. She seemed to soften at the subject. A touching subject it might have been. he lowered his head. Losing someone's on child at a oyung age, a tragedy. Something Rein himself wouldn't understand since he wasn't married nor did he have kids of his own, "I'm sorry..." He said plain and simple not knowing if it would offend her or not, "He disappeared you say but there is that chance he is still out there wondering where you are. No matter how many years go by, one always come back to there family." He smiled, "I'm sure some day, you will meet with him, and you'll be more proud than ever."
Rein shook his head, "Perhaps that might have been the case, though I might never know." Watching as the fire came to a peak and seemed to die down once more he sighed, "Sent to exile for helping people out in the dungeon who weren't suppose to be there." He shrugged, "Only reason ever, and I'm not aloud to speak with any of my family."

Dear my love..
Staring into the depths of the flames also, she opened her hand. A glyph illuminated in front of her hand. Closing her fist, the flames grew brighter. Flickering in yellow, blue, and orange, it created a better lighting and color. It just seemed the kind thing to do for the fact that he created the new source of light and possible warmth from the cold winds. "Interesting power that you have... Fire manipulation." she commented. "I rarely see others who are experienced in magics nowadays."
She saved her hand dismissively at the apology. Not many had a really good reply because, well, who could at such an event? "It is alright." A bitter laugh escaped from Seryn's lips. She once believed that one day she could see him again. However, it's been too long. The chances of never seeing him again was too likely; He could have been killed by the rebels, viruses, hunger, people in general... The many factors are just too much. "I gave up believing that decades ago." she admitted. "Plus, I'm sure he probably forgot about me by now."
Seryn thought for a moment, looking at the flames. "If you aren't with anyone in your family, then what are you doing here?" she asked. Seryn thought that any outsiders would want to come here to America.
This is not happening. Felix banged his head against the steering wheel and cursed the world. The damned hunk of metal wouldn't' start and he was going to run late. God damn it! He was sick of being the scientists' errand boy. They were always sending him to infected regions to take readings and gathering whatever else samples they needed. Lately he'd been spending an awful lot of time in the slums. Well... suck it up baby. It was his own fault for being too available. There hadn't been much for him to do nowadays. Though it wasn't as if he had much choice in the matter.
He reached for the bags in the backseat before he flung the car door open. He put a gas mask on and shouldered the bags with an annoyed grunt. Even though he had of course been given access to the latest cure, it always paid to be safe. Nobody ever listened to him when he talked about the risks of the viruses mutating. Of course, they had taken every precaution. Pretentious bastards. Felix knew that the Hotel Tercero wasn't far from where he was. He glanced back at the two figures in the distance he had passed, then set his pace and walked on.
