The Sailor Moon anime is what everyone is most likely familiar with and grew up with.
The series contains 5 seasons. Take note though that the anime follows in the manga in a general sense. It's a Monster of the Day type of series.
Sailor Moon:
Sailor Moon follows Usagi Tsukino, an ordinary and ditzy 14-year-old – or so she thinks – who one day discovers Luna, a talking cat who reveals Usagi's identity as "Sailor Moon", a magical warrior destined to save Earth from the forces of evil. Luna tasks her with finding the Moon Princess and protecting Earth from a series of antagonists, beginning with the Dark Kingdom that appeared once before a long time ago and destroyed the Moon Kingdom. Before the start of the series, when the dark nemesis attacked the Moon Kingdom, the Queen sent the Moon Princess, her guardians, her advisors, and her true love into the future to be reborn. Together with the Moon Princess's guardians — the intelligent Sailor Mercury, psychic Sailor Mars, tomboyish Sailor Jupiter, and cheerful Sailor Venus — she fights evil and periodically encounters the mysterious Tuxedo Mask, the Moon Princess's true love.
Sailor Moon R
This story features the regaining of the inner Sailor Senshi's memories and their encounters with the Makaiju aliens (Eiru and An), and is referred to as the Makaiju (or "Doom Tree" in the dubbed North American version of the anime) arc. The main story arc explores the future of all the inner Sailor Senshi in a utopic city called Crystal Tokyo, ruled over by Neo-Queen Serenity and King Endymion. New characters introduced include Chibiusa, Sailor Pluto, and in the manga, Diana. The primary villains are the Black Moon Clan, led by Prince Demande. When the Sailor Moon anime was first aired in the English world (particularly in Australia), the series consisted of just 65 episodes, of which 40 were taken from the first season. Twelve episodes of the Black Moon arc were shown first, then all of the episodes from the Makaiju arc from the start of the season were shown. The remaining 17 episodes of the Black Moon arc were not released for another three years, billed by Cartoon Network as "the lost episodes." One episode from the season, involving Chibiusa's friendship with a dinosaur, was omitted from the dub and is not included the subtitled DVD releases.
Sailor Moon S
Sailor Moon S is the third season of the Sailor Moon anime. It features Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune, with Professor Tomoe and the Death Busters as the antagonists.
Sailor Moon SuperS
Sailor Moon SuperS is the fourth season of Sailor Moon. It deals with the Dark Moon Circus searching for Pegasus to rule the world.
Sailor Moon Stars
is the fifth and final season in the Sailor Moon metaseries and covers the final 34 episodes. The season first continues the story left off in the SuperS season regarding the fate of Queen Nehellenia, and it then revolves around Sailor Galaxia and her quest to take Star Seeds from humans.
