Privet my little darlings, and welcome to Intro to Magical Sciences. And who better to teach this course than the goddess of magic herself? Over the next few posts I hope to educate you all better in the ways magical energy functions in the Outerverse and how you can better utilize it. o3o

Types of Magic
I suppose this title is a bit confusing as I'm sure you're all ready to get in to the schools of magic, but before we do that there are a few categories higher than that.
Arcane Arcane magics are directly channeled from my dear husband Epiros, and previously the devil king Ankou who is a total douche. With the exception of the innate magical abilities of some races all magic comes from him. It is said that even the magically attuned elves did not have their spark before Ankou created magic.
Divine Divine magic is powered by faith and while it ultimately still comes from Epiros there is often a middle man. For example, as a cleric of Oceanus, Kai'lani's magic comes from her faith in him and in turn his magical powers he bestows on her are often powered by Epiros. Titans were one of the races that could use magic before it was created by Ankou, but it's to my understanding that they were not as strong magically beforehand.
Devil Magic Not much is known of devil magic and there aren't many devils left to ask about it.

The Language of Magic
The verbal components of your spells, should you need them, will differ greatly depending on whether you channel divine or arcane magics.
Arcane casters speak in the Old Tongue, Ankou's native language, so old that its true name has been long forgotten if it ever had one. Because the language was spoken before most groups had a written language spells are often written phonetically which can lead to some confusion in young or inexperienced mages.
In the case of divine magic your casting language is dependent on the source of your faith or object of conviction. (More may be added later.)
Ankou- Old Tongue Epiros- Any Romanite Pantheon*- Any Mahina (Imori)- Alai'yin Valos (Melorian)- Enochian Nocturne- Nocturnal Oceanus- Merfolk Ajura- Any Zephyrus- Merfolk Gods of the Samudi Pantheon- Samudi The Great Forest Spirit- Elven Pharaohs- Leonin
*Romanite clerics actually still draw their power from Epiros >////>;

The Nine Schools
1. Restoration- Magic that heals the body, mind, or even land. Can be used offensively against certain opponents.
2. Evocation (Destruction)- Magic that harnesses the powers of the elements (discussed in detail in another post). While it is commonly referred to as destruction many mages who master this school prefer the name evocation as it does not have to be used to destroy.
3. Illusion- Magic that masks appearances, or creates sights and sounds out of nothingness. Skilled illusionists can even simulate smells or tactile sensations.
4. Conjuration- Magic that calls on or invokes objects or beings to the caster. Conjuration can be used to call creatures forth from other plans, for inter/intraplaner travel, and to summon armor or weapons to the caster to name a few examples.
5. Transmutation- Magic that warps or twists. Water in to wine, polymorphing, ect.
6. Enchanting- Enchantments impart magical qualities and effects to people, objects, or places.
7. Abjuration (Barrier and/or Protection)- Magic that shields or expells.
8. Divination- Magic that allows its caster to see the past, present, or possible future.
9. Alteration- Magic that warps other magic such as counterspells.
Many complex spells do not utilize a single school and are combinations of two and sometimes more.
Common Misunderstandings About These Schools
Because the nature of these schools often mimic the effects of other schools enchantments and alteration spells are confused for anything save their own.
Additionally, the practices of maho (blood magic), alchemy, and artiface are thought to be schools themselves when in fact they are the result of combining several.

Elemental Magic
I mentioned the elements briefly in the previous post and in addition to effecting magic itself they also effect the strengths and weaknesses of beings in the Outerverse. While many other schools draw from the elements to avoid confusion I will be using evocation/ destruction for any examples. The elements are as follows:
Fire Earth Lightning Water Ice Air Holy Unholy
See Fig-1 for type effectiveness
