Personal Information

Personality: Brener is a combat addict, a heavy drinker, and a gambler. Prone to following his instincts with a devil-may-care attitude rather than a plan and laughing even in the face of death, no one would be faulted for considering him an insane death-seeker and a liability. Rough around the edges, stubborn, and opinionated: Brener is a handful most of the time. Additionally, though typically friendly with just about anyone, Brener keeps people at arm's length due to personal issues; typically using insults to drive people away.
Dig a little deeper, and the man found is fiercely loyal, calculating, and above all brilliant. Having had no real formal education, it is amazing just how many subjects, and at what depth, Brener comprehends. This is demonstrated in his strong grasp of finances, his well-developed negotiating skills and his mostly self-taught abilities as a pilot.
Brener is a passable mechanic but lacks the knowledge to make engineering a career path. His upbringing and skill-set have resulted in a top-notch pilot with a strong grasp of tactics.
Team Loyalty: Currently Unaffiliated

- Soldiers - A band of drunken soldiers murdered his father and suffered no punishment for the act. As a result, Brener bears a deep hatred towards soldiers.
Losing - No one wins every time, Brener knows better than anyone. However, having grown up in a world where losing was not only a sign a of weakness but a possible death sentence, Brener loathes prospect of losing.
Being Dismissed - Insults he can bear, names he can bear, hatred he can bear, but dismiss who he is, ignore the man that he has become, and Brener will rampage through your life.
Fears:
- Forming Attachments - Brener considers himself cursed, everyone he has been close to is now dead. He now fears that if he grows close to someone else... they too will suffer.
Forced Retirement - Brener has clawed his way out of the gutter, the last thing he wants is to find himself forced back in. Whether that be by the destruction of Murdock (his Zoid), or loss of piloting skills (due to injury) matters not. Brener would prefer death to living out the rest of his days as a bum.
Lonely at the Top - Despite his fear of attachments, Brener does not want to die alone. He wants to form his own family, though that does not necessarily mean blood-kin. This is part of the reason why he seeks to enter the professional tournament scene: he hopes to build true camaraderie and friendship among the members of his team.
Dreams:
- The Big Score - Having had to struggle to make ends meet his whole life, Brener dreams of making enough money to never have such worries again. The Big Score refers to making so much money in one sitting that he could simply retire.
Even Now - Though he has no way of finding them Brener dreams of finding the men who murdered his father, in addition to anyone else responsible for the death of his aunt, and returning the favor.
Do Not Go Softly - Brener burns to make his mark in history, a furious howl to prove that he did in fact exist. He *almost* doesn't care what his legacy would be, he will be remembered.
Biography:
Veric Brener had a rough life; born an Olympian, Brener was made an orphan shortly after his birth. His mother, died due to complications after the birth; complications that were the result of doctor/hospital neglect. His father was murdered shortly after that at the hands of drunken soldiers at a bar; soldiers that suffered no consequences for their act. His father's death was swept under the rug and promptly forgotten by city officials. Thus it came to be that Miranda Brener, an avid gambler and drinker, found herself saddled with the child of her now dead younger brother. Miranda, had suddenly become a single parent. Aside from gambling, Miranda ran a Zoid maintenance shop, specializing in modifying and repairing Zoids. A rough & tumble lifestyle awaited her new "son."
Brener spent his childhood running underfoot at the shop and in bars, where he was exposed to the seedy underbelly of Olympia. Brener grew up picking fights on the streets in addition to learning the intricacies of Tournament Gambling. See Miranda was intelligent, to an almost deadly degree; sadly, a lack of money and a poor background prevented her the education and the means to truly nurture it. What she could do though, was employ her knowledge of Zoid models and armaments to pick the winners of a match every time. This was a skill-set and knowledge-base that she taught her little nephew so that he could place bets for her while she made more money at the shop. This constant exposure to Zoid combat (and bar brawls) soon caused Brener to want to become a Zoid pilot, seeing a definite thrill in being involved in the action.
Being too poor to learn from professional trainers and coupled with a deep seated hatred for the military, Brener began to learn any way he could. He would pay retired pilots with his winnings to teach him anything, he stole books on pilot basics, he even snuck into hangars to get a feel for the controls. This thirst of his was insatiable, and this pattern continued for several years. Brener emerged from those years as a young man of twenty-two willing and ready to take on the world. He began taking his own bets on the side, as well as fighting in bare-hand underground prize fights to get the money to acquire his own Zoid. Two years of dangerous risk saw Brener with enough money to buy that Zoid: a König Wolf.
But in Brener's rush to acquire that fortune, he had angered too many people. Individuals that decided that the young man was owed some payback; they broke into Miranda's shop and assaulted Brener & his aunt. The fight provoked a fire which resulted in explosions that destroyed the shop. Only Brener managed to make it out of the blaze alive. Now truly alone in the world, Brener became a little unhinged. He acquired the König Wolf (nearly depleting all his savings) and pushed himself to extremes, engaging in several underground tournaments to gain hands-on experience. Now a couple of years later, Brener is ready to make his mark in the professional scene and demonstrate that your origins don't matter in a field where skill is the true measure of worth.
