Zoid Landing Plateau Although this is technically the center of the district there isn't actually much here. It's a very scenic area, with a mixture of grass and cobblestone pretty much making this area the a caricature of living on The Fringes of Olympia; quiet, beautiful but slow.

xxxxxMallory Brecht ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬••• Pilot || Team ??? || Bear Fighter || Pilot / Unemployed Mallory smiled to himself as he him and Aiden ran towards the Plateau. He didn't know why exactly it was that the two of them were racing but, well, it was nice. It was nice that the two of them could take such a life changing decision in their stride and just roll with it; they were about to leave home and its quiet safety for the big, rich city. They knew there wasn't much they could do in terms of saying goodbye because no one seemed to be around but in all honesty that was probably the for the best.
Mal imagined what it would have been like if tier family had all got together for their goodbyes. It would've been a train wreck, Mallory would start crying and panicking; their parents would ball into handkerchiefs as the two of them disappeared into the tram stop; and poor Aiden would have to be the strong one. It was kinda unfair that Ade was always the one who had to be strong. Mal really wanted to one day be the strong one but for now, right here and now, he would just have to think about the things that are currently important.
Right now, it was just this race. Having fun. Leaving on a high note but unfortunately with Aiden having such a head start and the two being so evenly matched in the first place; Mallory would bring up the rear as the two of them entered the Plateau. Once they were passed here there was no going back, so Mallory couldn't help but stop for a second and look around. He couldn't help but smile and admire Zoid Landing. It was probably the greatest place in Olympia but not many people would say so. "We really were lucky, weren't we?" Mallory asked Aiden, smiling to himself as he pulled his bag onto his shoulder. "We really were lucky..."•••▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Account Balance: 240,000 || Normal State || Bear Fighter || Pilot/ Unemployed

XXXXAiden had grown up trying to take care of his new family. He'd end up having to be the strong one for them when times were tough. There just wasn't enough hours in the day for him to cry, or to be scared. And yet, here he was. Running. It's how he'd cope when things got rough. He'd run. He'd make it some kind of game with Mal and he'd run. He would deny it, but... In all honesty he was scared. If it wasn't for Mallory, Aiden just... He wouldn't be Aiden. He wouldn't be strong or confident or brave. Mallory made him these things. Thanks to his support, and love. Mal had pushed him to be his best self, and he knew that he couldn't do this without him. So he made it a game. Aiden turned back to see Mal closing the distance between them a few times, and when he stopped to look around a bit, Ade did the same.
He took a deep breath when he heard Mal address him about being lucky. He really had no idea just how lucky they were. "Yeah buddy. We were. Still are." Aiden took in the scenery. It was pretty amazing how far they had gotten. This was really happening. Today. Turning to look at Mal, Aiden smiled. "So... When we get there what do you want to do first?" Aiden figured he should get them situated with living arrangements for the night before running off to find themselves anyone who'd take them into their team.
Once they got to the Trams Adien figured he calm down a bit as then it'd be too late for either of them to change their minds. Seeing as they came all this way. But for now, they just had to get there in one piece. "Just a little further to the Tram Stop. You ready to go? Or do you wanna rest for a bit first?"

xxxxxMallory Brecht ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬••• Pilot || Team ??? || Bear Fighter || Pilot / Unemployed The younger brother nodded in agreement to the older's statement. They had been lucky to be born in Zoid Landing, especially someone like Mallory whom suffered from a huge amount of anxieties. It was peaceful and small in terms of population, allowing for Mal to simply avoid people if he could and even though the two of them were giving up the peace of quiet of the Landing for Royal's bustling Streets of Gold: It wasn't a forever deal. One day, Mallory and Aiden were going to come back with something, something more glorious than the beach or the fields. They were going to bring a Season Championship back to Zoid Landing as winners and go down in history. It was only a matter of time.
It was there, alone with Ade on the Plateau where Mallory decided that it was time to do something he was rather renowned for. It was time for him to speak softly but wisely about the two of them; he couldn't deny the fact that Ade was just as nervous as he was anymore. It was unfair. So, taking a deep breathe, Mallory simply looked towards Aiden and grinned once again to let him know everything was alright. It was going to be okay. As long as the two of them stayed together and managed to look out for one and other despite fame and money and the Grand Prix, there would always be a small part of the Landing by their sides. "Yeah. You're right. I mean, it's not like we'll never see this place again. Is it? And I suppose you're going to be there for every step of the way, so that's like having a small bit of Zoid Landing nearby at a constant. We'll always look out for each other, here or anywhere else... It's nice when you think about it..."Standing on the cobblestones, Mal put his hands in his pockets and began to walk towards the Tram Stop, pondering Ade's next question about what it was he wanted to do first when they got into Olympia. Mostly, he wanted to get out onto the pavement and try and get some interviews for teams. In a way, that's all he'd actually even thought about since the two of them had cooked up the idea. It was a one tracked affair in his mind: Get a team and win. Simple. But now it was drawing closer, it seemed pretty stupid to just throw themselves straight in without having any sort of fun. Yet, he hadn't given much else thought...
He scratched the side of his neck in order to combat the rising nerves in his stomach, his finger tips slowly glided over the scars he'd given himself and with a shrug of his shoulders replied to both of Aiden's questions in one fell swoop. The truth just was that he didn't know what he wanted or was going to do...

▂ ▃ ▄ ▅ ▆ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▇ ▆ ▅ ▄ ▃ ▂ The Plateau looked the same as ever that morning. There were the same people wandering about, the same shops open, the same number of smiling faces. It was the air that was different. Wind against her skin, the feeling Viridiana missed in the city where the wind was all so blocked by buildings you never felt it. Most people in the city would come out here, feel that breeze, and get right back on that train because they didn’t want to be subjected to nature anymore, but there was something about it that put Vi at ease. Normally it was just a pleasant little breeze to put a smile on her face, that morning it was pushing her forward, convincing her: this is what she needed to do. With a light whirl it picked one of the flyers for pilots right off the top of the pile and tossed it into the air. It fluttered a moment, spun about in the wind current, before it floated to the ground and Viridiana ran to grab it. With the loose paper in hand, she read the print on the front and remembered the joy she’d felt at seeing the finished product come off the printer the night before. That feeling, that clench in her stomach, that joy that she couldn’t explain but had smiled at all the same, that’s what she wanted to feel with this team. How much effort had she already put in before even finding Pilots? Already it was her child, already she was attached, so what kind of mother would she be to abandon something that beautiful, that perfect, in its infancy?
In her head, a much better pep talk was forming, but this time she didn’t need it. She squeezed her hand around the float away flyer, crumpling it between her fingers. Her face lit up, smiling, ready. Now she just had to find the right pilots for just what she wanted. Her eyes wandered the area, there had to be at least one of those pilots floating about somewhere. Her hand holding the crumpled piece of paper reached for her back pocket, trying to grab at the list she’d kept so she could refresh her memory on faces. It took a little balancing, trying to hold so much in one hand while the other was so full with flyers, but she managed it with just a bit of effort. Then her focus became the list. Mallory Brecht- note: you want this one, just don’t have to like him… Aiden Prieto-note: take it or leave it… She was trying to associate name to face in all of a few seconds, but if she could it was a good business tactic, people did like to be greeted by name after all. Her notes were about as descript as she wanted to get, but at least they gave her an idea what to go for.
She gave it a few more seconds glance before she lowered the list from her face. Her hands were too full to try getting the sheet refolded and back into her pocket so she just held it down out of her line of sight and let her eyes wander the faces of people around the Plateau. Lucky enough for her, one of them struck her. She struggled for the name again as she walked toward him, shuffling what she was holding to one side as much as she could to offer him a handshake as she grew closer. First impressions, she needed to make a good first impression. Pressing the stack of flyers against her chest, Viridiana stopped two feet shy of Mallory to set the pilot list on the top edge of the flyers, face down, and set the crumpled sheet on top of that. She tried putting on a cheerful smile, call it acting if you will, as she held her right hand out to him.
“Mallory Brecht, right? I’m Viridiana. I own the weapons shop in town. I understand you’re a good pilot, and I’ve had a lot of customers tell me to look you up first thing now that I’m starting a team.” It was very forward of her, she knew that, but she wanted to lay everything out as quickly as she could because this time she really meant business. Truth of the matter was, after someone had suggested him she’d actually gone out to the edge of the farm and watched him pilot, she knew how good he could be, but she also knew his draw backs. That’s why this whole kind but forward personality, to her, felt like acting. He just wasn’t her type of person, but she needed to snatch up that talent before anyone else did. “I hope you don’t mind me being a bit… propulsive I suppose, see, I’m starting a Private Grand Prix team and could use some pilots. I even have the contract with me, we could go over to my shop now and you could sign it. Would you be interested?” She was probably overwhelming the poor boy. These were country folk, they weren’t used to words like ‘propulsive,’ they probably didn’t get jumped in the street with a hundred questions by one very over eager girl. Future reference to herself she supposed: tone it down.

XXXXThe corners of his lips curled upward forming a smile as he listened to his younger brother's soft words of wisdom. Mallory didn't know how right he was. Without muttering a word Aiden nodded his head in agreement. And as Mal started off in the direction of the tram stop once again he followed.
The male stopped in his tracks once more to decide what their next course of action would be, though unknown to him the answer would come to them in due time. After some internal debate, he came to the conclusion that they could find residence after they've talked to a few team managers. At least that way the word could get out that they were looking for a team. As Aiden opened his mouth to speak to his brother, he was interrupted by a female with a rather large stack of flyers. She introduced herself as Viridiana, a weapons shop owner, whom was apparently starting her own Private Grand Prix team. Aiden reached out and shook her hand, for he knew Mallory wouldn't and he didn't want them to come off rude. Then then introduced himself, unaware if she even cared. It appeared that the Brecht boys were indeed lucky. They hadn't even gotten to Royal Olympia yet and someone was already interested in them. Well.. She was interested in Mallory. It seemed like she hadn't noticed him, or rather she didn't care about his existence in this particular moment in time. As she questioned Mallory, Aiden looked towards him his arm now crossed over his chest. Whoa... Sounds good Mal. Good.. Good for you. He thought quietly to himself as he smiled towards his brother, his gaze then focused on the girl.
She had given her proposition to him and now all Mal had to do was answer. Aiden looked at Mal, knowing that he wasn't going to give her an answer anytime soon. Her questioning of him had been probably the most social interaction he had with a complete stranger. She practically raped him with her words. "Viridiana was it? Mallory here doesn't... really talk to people, especially people that attack him with words out of nowhere." He explained to her as he pulled Mal away from her. "Hey Mal. Look at me. Right here. Look at me buddy. We are going to go to her shop. We're going to get you a contract. We'll hear what she has to offer. And we'll leave. You can decide what to do later. Okay?" He made sure to keep Mal's eyes directed at him. A smile ever present on his face as he spoke. Turning to look at Viridiana, Aiden nodded his head. "I take it that you heard all of that. Lead the way miss. I'll get your stack of papers for you. Least I can do." Aiden bent down and lifted the stack of flyers from the pavement and motioned for her to lead the way with his head. He then looked back towards Mallory. "Mal. It's going to be alright. I'm here. I'm right here." Aiden whispered to him. He then proceeded to give him a gentle headbutt, as his arms were preoccupied, to let Mal know that it was going to be alright.

xxxxxMallory Brecht ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬••• Pilot || Team ??? || Bear Fighter || Pilot / Unemployed Feeling as though the time was finally right to proceed, as if everything was finally fitting into place, Mallory began taking the first few steps towards the Tram Stop with a gusto. He didn't walk with the sort of arrogant confidence that a lot of Zoid Pilots seemed to walk with, that type of confidence that made people seem almost unhuman and invincible; it was more like the type of walk someone did with conviction, when they were poised to face their fears even in the face of great peril. You could tell he was terrified just by looking at him but you couldn't help but respect Mallory as he trudged on...
The conviction in his step made him almost oblivious to the outside world, not that he already wasn't most of the time, and as such he really didn't register the girl with the fliers. Mallory was too focused on the Tram, the anxiety of getting there on time, getting on and making sure he was comfortable was anxious enough. He didn't need to be feeling shy in front of pretty girls with almost luminous eyes. But it was as he went to turn and hear what Aiden had to say that all of that changed.
Watching Aiden's mouth move to talk but not hearing his voice was enough to put Mallory on edge straight away. However, upon realizing that the diembodied voice had for some reason said his name made things worse, Mal now had to follow the voice to its source and that he did. He turned back around to look towards the station and saw the same pretty girl with the vivid eyes talking straight at him. At him because, well, Mallory didn't really listen or hear anything when strangers accosted him; everyone else was probably watching and thinking how much they wished the girl had paid them that sort of attention, like it was one of their fantasies or dreams. However, for Mallory it was his worst nightmare. Confused, above all else, Mallory felt the heat spiking in his cheeks. His eyes widened in terror. His chest tightened. He could already feeling it coming and the girl just kept on talking and talking.
Who was she? What did she want? How did she know him? Did she say he was a good Zoid Pilot? How did she know that? Had people been talking about Mallory behind his back? Thing after thing began to amass on the pile that was Mallory's woes in this situation and as if by instinct, he reached towards the left side of his neck in order to find some comfort. The girl had stopped, she was even asking him questions but all Mal could do was stand their, wide eyed. He couldn't even muster up an answer."..."Feeling a tug on his arm, the mesmerized young man allowed it to take him. He could hear Aiden's voice calling out to him, beckoning him back to the world of the living and like always Mallory followed it. He followed it, he looked deep into his brother's eyes and still scratching at the scars on his neck with quite the ferocity, simply nodded.
A contract was a contract, as long as Ade was with him it didn't matter. But he remained silent for now, one hand white knuckled on his bag strap and the other at his soothing spot.•••▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Account Balance: 240,000 || Normal State || Bear Fighter || Pilot/ Unemployed

Viridiana was really trying to give the poor boy the benefit of the doubt. Along with hearing how great a pilot he was, she’d also heard a few rumors about him being a little peculiar when outside his zoid, but really? There was socially awkward, and then there was Mallory. The poor boy looked faint at just the idea that another human being was talking to him, and yet he’d been traveling with this self-righteous piece of work that thought he should talk for the kid. Okay, so Mal was quiet, she could get that, but was it so bad he needed someone else to speak a simple yes or no for him? Her mind was absolutely livid, like couldn’t believe she’d just offered this kid a contract livid. How on earth was this piece of a disaster supposed to be such a fantastic pilot? He had to have a stunt double, there had to be a completely different person driving that hunk of metal he called a bear fighter. There was no other explanation, no way in hell did this kid drive that machine as masterfully as she’d seen the one day she’d bothered going out to the farm. Oh dear, was she making a mistake? If he wasn’t the pilot she thought she was then this team would be six feet in the ground before it even had the thought of flying. Why had she been so quick to jump for signing him a contract she hadn’t thought about the possibility of him being, well, him.
Then there were Aiden’s words. The way he seemed to try calming Mallory, how he apparently understood the boy’s terror at being approached, like this had happened before. Maybe this was the genuine article and she’d been expecting too much. But then again, she’d disliked him when she’d first heard he had a bit of a different personality outside the zoid, having actually seen it now she was starting to detest him. This kid, this pathetic excuse for a human being, with scratch marks on the side of his neck and a glassy look in his eyes like he couldn’t hear the world around him, this kid was supposed to be some fantastic pilot, and this guy with him was acting like that was totally normal. How the hell was this normal? Okay, so she’d kind of boiled up a hot bowl of word soup and shoved it down his throat, she could understand if he weren’t hungry for it, but to go so far as to not only ignore it but to actually ignore her existence? He didn’t shake her hand, didn’t say yes to his name, didn’t even bat an eye in regards to a contract offer, all he did was keep on with that weird scratching thing.
Problem was, as much as she wanted to take back all she’d said, because this kid was simply not what she’d imagined, she couldn’t really back out of it now. Hell, this other one, the one whose name she’d completely glossed over, she’d take him for a pilot even if he had no experience if she could just play it off she’d made a mistake, but it was already too late. No, now she was binding herself to a kid who couldn’t even say the word hello. Perhaps the only good thing was if he didn’t speak there were other possibilities. He was too timid to speak up, she might be able to hash out a lower quality contract for him, offer him less money, and he’d probably sign it. It was a little rude, a bit devious, but it was every bit a Viridiana thing to do. The issue just became this smug chump with him and how close their relationship would be. Maybe for that reason it would be a good idea to sucker up to the big guy as well.
“Ah, Sorry then. I’d heard rumors he was quiet, I just had no idea it was that bad. Didn’t really intend to make the poor kid faint.” She wanted to play it nice, seem like she’d done it all with honest intentions, as if she were always this pretty, kind little shop owner. Let them think she ran a flower shop for heaven’s sake, because as soon as they signed that contract she might as well own their soul, and they’d see just what it was about that petite little girl that made her so well suited for selling guns instead of roses. But to keep up the façade for now, she had to talk up Mr. tall and talkative. “Umm… I can’t say I caught your name in all that though. Are you like his speech coach, his therapist? I don’t mean to be rude, he just seems like he needs a bit of help dealing with the world.” Her face looked so innocent, like she’d said it with only the nicest intentions, but in truth she was digging. His face looked familiar to her in the same way Mallory’s had, but in his case she couldn’t put face to name, and truth be told she wasn’t absolutely certain he was a pilot on her list.
The instant he offered to take the flyers she obliged happily, passing them over with a great feel of relief to have a hand free again. She didn’t take the risk of leaving that pilot list on top as she passed them over though, there was a chance his name was on that list and she was being an idiot and she’d just rather not let them know that. Besides, who walked around with a list of names and faces to find in a crowd? It was probably a bit stalker-ish to do something like that, and she’d rather they didn’t know. She didn’t bother to look the sheet over though, if he was on the list he clearly hadn’t been important enough to remember so he wasn’t worth looking up, besides, he’d tell her his name again, she had asked after all. Thinking of what had been said as well, weren’t they heading to her shop? She probably should lead on. ”Right, umm… Shell Shock. Don’t suppose you’ve heard of it?” It was kind of fishing for attention to ask, but it would make easy conversation, at least for her, as she started the walk back across the plaza, leading both boys to the first major hint they’d have at what Viridiana was truly like.

XXXXAiden had been captured in the moment. In the excitement of it all, that it had not registered to him that despite the girl's knowledge of Mallory, they had no idea who she was. It had no registered in his mind, that is not until then. Other than what she had told them thus far, who was this pretty girl with the vivid eyes, and why.. no how, how did she know so much about Mallory? Just where were these rumors about Mal coming from. And just who was she anyway? Who was this Viridiana with no last name? Well whoever she was, she was showing no interest in getting to know Aiden. Up until he started to speak for Mallory, it was as if Mal was the only one there. She hadn't even remembered his name, after he clearly introduced himself. He went through the trouble of learning her name, the least she could do was reciprocate.
"My name is Aiden." He laughed quietly to himself as she addressed him as Mal's speech coach and his therapist. He was a number of things to the male, but above all else he was "I am his older brother. Aiden looked over towards Mallory, whom was sticking to his guns and scratching away at his neck. He could only imagine how Mal was feeling. As he turned his attention back to Vi, he noticed her steal away a paper from the top of the stack. It must have been important, if she'd go through the trouble of not letting him carry it for her. He figured he'd ask about it later, if he got the chance.
"Shell Shock? Yeah. I've heard of it, i'm sure Mal here has too. I've heard my fair share of good things about the store. So you own it? That's pretty impressive." There was a part of him that couldn't believe that this was actually happening, that all of this was just some elaborate dream. And at any moment his pants would disappear and everyone would all turn to stare at him, pointing their fingers and laughing. Or Viridiana turned out to be some sort of serial killer that targeted males. He was sure he'd wake up any minute and be in the safety of the farmhouse, waiting for the day to start. But that wasn't the case. And deep down, he knew that. The Brecht boys were just unbelievably lucky.

xxxxxMallory Brecht ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬••• Pilot || Team ??? || Bear Fighter || Pilot / Unemployed Still scratching away at the smooth silver streaks across his neck, Mallory didn't say a word. It was better that way, really it was, he'd only mess up such a big opportunity for himself by stuttering or blurting out some sort of nonsensical piece of discourse. He knew it was best for Aiden to handle it but still, something didn't quite sit right with Mallory when it came to this girl. She was beautiful and yet, she wanted to talk to him? In a dream maybe but in real life that was never going to be the case and no one in the Grand Prix ran up to you offering you a contract, there were usually trial runs, call backs, qualifiers. There was so much pre-contractual stuff to do, so why? Why did this girl want Mallory on his team so bad? Had she already seen him pilot before in the meadows? Had she watched him use Teddy as an agricultural aide? Who knew but at the mention of rumors, Mallory couldn't help but freeze up again.R-r-r-r-rumours... Mallory thought to himself, stuttering even inside his own mind What could people be possibly saying about... me? I'm... I'm nobody, right? How does she even know who I am? What's going on here!? The swelling panic once again rose within Mallory's lungs; the only difference this time though was that he was able to keep his breathing in check. It was slightly embarrassing that he'd lost his composure so easily before and if this girl was really going to offer him a contract to be a professional Zoid Pilot then he needed to make a good showing of himself. And so far he really wasn't. Pulling his hand away from his neck, he wrapped his fingers around his bag's strap. It may have not been as comforting to him but it was more casual, safer and smarter positioning for him.
But then again now that the small girl had said that she wanted to sign Mallory, she couldn't really pull it out from the air. She must have been new to this too and that set Mallory at ease ever so slightly, well, that and the fact that she called Aiden his speech therapist. he didn't laugh but it was actually quite funny. And yeah, she may have been right that Mal needed some help but in a way that was what all of this was for. Maybe if he spent more time in his Zoid, the part of him that sprang to life in the cockpit would rub off on him outside of it. Maybe, just maybe, he could handle the real world. But for now he'd have to rely on Aiden for a little while longer, at least, until everything worked out. Smiling towards his brother, Mallory was set to follow the two of them to where ever it was they needed to go.
Even if that was to Shell Shock. "Shell Shock. Zoid Weaponsmiths and Outfitters. An extension of the Zeppelin Steel. Ran by their only child: Viridiana Rosette Zeppelin, a talented designer, mechanic and accountant." Blinking for a second after his random outburst, Mallory bowed his head blushing as soon as he realized how strange he had been. It was not his place to evaluate his potential employer, it had just come out of his mouth somewhat in passing. Thinking out loud, if one would. But still, maybe it would work out in his favour that he knew so much. Or would it go against him that he was being so weird? "I-I-I-I'm sorry, that was rather impolite of me! I just wanted you to know that I admired your work! I was thinking of applying to work for you one day. Maybe. If you'd have me. Miss Zeppelin, Ma'am."•••▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Account Balance: 240,000 || Normal State || Bear Fighter || Pilot/ Unemployed

They both looked confused, concerned, and maybe even a bit happy. She could put their feelings to an explanation too if she tried, after all, how much had she really told these boys? They should be confused, she’d come to them out of the blue which was very unusual in that business, then she wanted to sign them immediately. Were she in their shoes she probably would have been confused as well, so it seemed totally justified to look as lost as they did in that moment. To be fair, they didn’t know her, didn’t know anything about her, being worried as well wasn’t a bad trait. At least now she knew they had a good head on their shoulders, both of them. Even Mallory, who she was not fond of because of his shyness, was trying very hard to keep it together while still feeling as he did. He’d stopped scratching his neck; something she’d begun to assume was some sort of nervous tick, which was probably a difficult thing for him to do.
Aiden’s explanation was not really what she’d been expecting, but she couldn’t say it was a surprise. So these two were brothers? That explained quite a lot actually. Not to mention his name sounded really, really familiar. She’d already decided before that she wouldn’t look at the list in front of them, it was really rude, but his name was so familiar she couldn’t resist. She tried to make it as inconspicuous as possible, only taking a second to grab it from her pocket and unfold the paper. Her eyes scanned it instantly, searching for that black and white picture of his face next to a name. Sure enough, Aiden Prieto, that was the name she had down for him, but if they were brothers then that last name couldn’t possibly be right. No doubt there was a story to explain that one as well, but for now she thought it best not to ask. On the plus side, now she was in the company of a second pilot whom she could sign, though she was well aware her comments on the sheet said “take it or leave it.” Apparently from watching them, he wasn’t her first pick, but she could bench him, and chances were with Mal’s unsettled personality they probably couldn’t handle being on separate teams. Was she about to sign both of them without even realizing it? She didn’t want to think about it, she’d find out when they got to Shell Shock and she got a chance to actually put the contract in Mallory’s hands.
Speaking of Shell Shock, they both seemed to know of it, which was an understatement in Mallory’s case. She was surprised just to hear the boy speak, he’d yet to say anything since she’d introduced herself, until that point she didn’t know if he could talk at all. It was kind of a relief to hear him speak actually, not enough that she was going to change her opinion of him, but it did make her feel a little better about signing him. He said he’d actually considered a job with her at the shop, a statement which surprised her in itself. There were, however, a few things he’d said which set her off a bit. He’d called Shell Shock an extension of Zeppelin Steel, which in itself angered her a little. Not that it was really his fault, it was just, well, she technically had nothing to do with her father’s steel works. It was the first thing she felt like correcting.
“Look, I appreciate the enthusiasm, I do, but you got that wrong. Zeppelin Steel is my dad’s company; I’m not associated with it. We’re two completely different entities; the only thing that binds us is a last name and a contract saying he’s my steel provider for the weapons I make. That’s it.” Her tone had turned aggressive; perhaps a bit aggravated by the thought that he would confuse them. The boy didn’t know any better, but that’s what made her angry, because if he would make that mistake then she could only imagine how many other people thought the same. This was her company, hers, it had nothing to do with her father and it never would. Well, unless she came to obtain Zeppelin Steel, but as it was at that moment they two were unassociated. There was, of course, something else he’d said that set her off a bit as well. She’d kind of skimmed over him calling her an accountant, that wasn’t really her job, but it was among her skill set so it didn’t seem worth correcting. What did, however, was what he’d called her. No one called her “Miss Zeppelin,” it was just so stale sounding, and she really didn’t want to be identified primarily as a Zeppelin, she wanted to be identified as Viridiana first and foremost.
“I’d rather you just called me Viridiana, okay? I didn’t mention my last name for a reason; I’d like to keep it out of our relationship as much as possible. So Viridiana, Viridia, Vi, any of those is okay with me, just not Miss Zeppelin, alright? It sounds lame anyways.” She tried to make it seem like she was joking, but the truth of it was she couldn’t hide the slightly hurt look in her eyes at being called that. Using her last name in conversation was as bad as straight out insulting her, and understandably so. People immediately associated her with her father, didn’t they? Not that she could blame them, Zeppelin was a big name, but that’s why she didn’t introduce herself as Viridiana Zeppelin, at most she’d introduce herself as Viridiana Rosette, because so many people took her middle name as her last and left it alone.
She tried to end her fuming as they neared her building. She led both of the boys to the front door while she searched for her keys. Normally she’d go in the back and straight to her workshop area, but they needed the grand tour starting at the front where everything was finished and pretty. Her fingers found her keys at the bottom of her messenger bag and she didn’t hesitate to pull them out and unlock the front door. Taking in a deep breath, she pushed it open, crossing the threshold into the place she called her second home, holding the door open so the boys could come in behind her.

XXXXThe shy giant of a little brother had finally spoken up. It had been surprising to say the least, but not necessarily unheard of. It just took him a while longer than most to be comfortable enough to speak. He had even worked up the strength to end his soothing scratch. Mallory may not have noticed it yet, but he had come far from when he had first met Aiden. He could remember the first time he tried to talk to Mallory all those years ago. These two instances were very similar in the fact that Mallory had taken some time to finally respond, the only difference being; Mallory had waited till it was nearly time for Aiden to go back to the Pyrce household before finally speaking to him. It was a strange exchange of words, but it was at that precise moment that he and Aiden had become friends.
A smile appeared on his face as he turned to look at Mallory. As socially awkward as he was, he always knew how to put a smile on your face. He listened to him apologize to Viridiana for his outburst of dialect, but in all honesty she was probably glad that he started to speak up to her. After the back and forth between them, it would seem as though Viridiana didn't want anything to do with her father's name. She had basically told them so herself. He could relate to that, as he took his mother's, less known, maiden name. The male wanted nothing to do with the Pryces. He'd pay the money he'd owe to his uncle and all family ties with them would be severed. The past would stay in the past and he'd look to the future with Mallory, as winners of the Grand Prix.
"Vi Rosette it is then."
Ade said bringing up the rear. As the trio arrived he looked at the store front, it was all rather impressive. He turned to Mallory as Viridiana escaped into her store. "Didn't think today would turn out like this huh?" He asked as he held the door open for him. Once Mallory was inside, Aiden too would retreat into the building.

xxxxxMallory Brecht ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬••• Pilot || Team ??? || Bear Fighter || Pilot / Unemployed Although he hadn't meant no offense by his small outburst of facts and knowledge, Mallory felt the whiplash as Viridiana's mood suddenly changed and recoiled back into himself for a moment. He could never imagine not wanting to relate to his family, they were so good to; they were so good for him that it would be impossible for him to cut ties. And even if he did want to, who else would he have around? Yeah, he would have Aiden but even then, Aiden would be mad at Mal for disowning his simple farmer parents. Aiden was like that and he'd be brutally honest about it too. Mallory could almost imagine the whole conversation in his head as they continued to walk towards Shell Shock.
It would have probably started with Mallory revealing he didn't want anything to do with his parents anymore and then Aiden would stand up bravely and defiantly as he always did in order to give Mal a harsh slap around the face with words... Or an actual slap, it would depend on how angry it made him. Mal would then just look on gobsmacked, perhaps literally, and blink as Aiden made a run down of why he had nothing to really complain about in terms of family; Aiden had been abused and tormented. It's why he'd ran away from his own family, stopped using their name and eventually ended up with the Brecht's on the farm and that would be his main point. How bad must a family really be if all someone wanted in the world was to be a part of it? Not bad at all was the answer.
In all honesty, realizing that made Mallory secretly proud. In a way, despite his anxieties at least he was somewhat normal in the fact that his family managed to hold on; that they loved each other and even the newest additions. A relationship with your Father like Viridiana's seemed cold, cold like the steel that bound them. "I think I understand..." Mallory said, returning his hand towards his neck giving in to the urge to find some sort of comfort in the fallout of his faux pas "I just though, you know, maybe, it would be better that I addressed you with respect and parameters in accordance to our relationship or future relationship. I...I...I mean, you are... kinda... possibly... most likely going to become my boss after I sign this contract, right? But if you wish for me to refer to you by first name, I can deal with that. It's actually kinda of a relief."He supposed it would be a more casual discourse to their relationship, if anything. Which would be nice. Some pilot's had to pretty much bow down to their team's manager and worship the ground they walked on and well, to land such a cushty position and team in your first season was quite rare. Usually, Mallory and Aiden would have been heading to Royal Olympia in order to try out for the State Teams. As much as they probably wanted to deny it, that was undoubtedly the truth of the matter. And yet, as Virdiana disappeared into Shell Shock, Aiden was right, Mallory didn't tink that today would turn out like this at all.
But still, something jabbed at Mallory, fresh and delicate little flowers like Viridiana didn't sell guns; let alone sell guns at the mean and ruthless efficiency that Shell Shock did and they definitely didn't turn on a dime as she had. Although he wouldn't say it, Mallory knew that the two of them were going to have to tread carefully as they went into the shop. For once inside, they were in her territory, like a spider and it's web..."No... No I didn't."[EXIT to SHELL SHOCK]
