It was still morning when the very busy young shop keeper stepped off the tram from Royal and out onto the tram platform. In hand she held a stack of flyers, half of them advertising her shop, the other half looking for employees. On her shoulder stretched a bag strap of a messenger bag that carried more flyers, and a few contracts she’d tucked in just in case. Her cheek was red from sleeping with her face against the window, and her hair was slightly mussed from the nap. She’d been up all night making flyers and running about her apartment finding things; then she’d left the house before dawn to check on some steel orders with her mother before running for the tram out. That’s where she’d ended up finally getting a few minutes of sleep, but she was regretting the mess of her appearance as she got off. Besides the hair, her skirt was wrinkled from lifting her knees, her fingerless gloves were sliding down her arms as if they were curtains, and her rose petal hair clip had slanted sideways. Before going anywhere, she needed a few minutes with a mirror to fix herself.

It must have been 10 minutes, at least, she spent straightening her clothes out. Her skirt was still a little wrinkled, but she couldn’t do much about that. She’d managed to readjust the gloves back past her elbow and re-laced them, just in case, before she so much as touched her hair. In her bag was a small hairbrush which she ran through her long waves of strawberry gold. With a little twist and re-pin she had the giant rose clip straightened back out as well. She was avoiding stepping outside now, and she knew it too. Vi wasn’t one to be nervous, but today, well, today she was embarking on an adventure that scared her a little bit; this time she had a right to be a little nervous. “It’s a Grand Prix team. It’s not scary, it’s money.” It was a poor excuse for a pep talk, but it seemed to get her moving again. She took the stack of flyers back in hand and headed out toward the plateau, but not without worries still on her mind.

This team idea of hers, it still sounded a little crazy when she said it out loud, but she was hopeful. A team could bring in business at Shell Shock, and the added income of a private team would really boost her savings. Okay, so in her head it was a little nuts, but she’d run the numbers a hundred times by now, all they had to do was win 2 games and they’d already be rolling in it. She could do that, right? So maybe she wasn’t a pilot, she didn’t have a great sense for people, but she knew her zoids forward and backward, and even with bad pilots she could probably pull two wins out of the machinery alone. Hopefully it would never come to that. She’d done her research ahead of time for this, she was ready. In her figurative back pocket was a list of names, and in her literal back pocket there was an actual list with pictures. She’d gone out on a hunt around Zoids landing a few weeks ago, someone told her that was the place to look, and she did have a few names in mind whom she wanted to speak to if she could catch them. That’s why she was on the tram so early, that’s why she’d done everything she had, she wanted to run into them, catch them if she could, before they headed out to the big city looking for better contracts. In order to do that though they’d probably take the tram, and they’d have to pass through the Plateau and that’s just where Viridiana was intent on setting up.

Mustering up that confidence which she wore like an air, the young shop keep took her last steps in the tram stop. As soon as she passed that threshold she’d be on a new adventure, this was the last chance to back down. She gave the flyers one last glance, remembering all the dreams she’d had of owning a team when she was child. There was no turning back on this, not for her. The Steel Nerves were meant to be. With that thought in mind she heaved a deep breath and put her right foot forward over the metal plate that marked the threshold, making her way out onto the plateau, ready to start this new adventure.

((Organic Orange Chrysanthemums: Yay! My first post. I realize now I need to get back into the swing of things. This was rough.))
